Up there with Monty Pythons “ Inflammation of the Foreskin, reminds me of your smile” or the Waterboys. When I left my home and my family, my mother said to me “it’s not how many Germans you kill, it’s how many people you set free” from Red Army Blues.
Great band, to repeat what is said else where in the comments, they just don't get the credit they deserve. And Rowena (sp?) what a voice, she gives so much to their sound!
Great videos guys . It's a bit weird seeing older guys than me not knowing about the Stone Roses (I'm 42) but feel the groove when they first hear this funky Manchester shit. Pretty remarkable that this small part of Northern England has some of the best bands ever🇬🇧🥃. Keep up the reactions 👏 gentlemen!
Happy Mondays get even better when you see 'Bez' dancing. Check out 'Step On'. FYI Shaun Ryer (the lead singer) also appears on the Gorrilaz track 'Dare' which is also quality
Used to live in Manchester in the 90s, and once Shaun Ryder was stood in front of me at the bank and behaved exactly how you’d expect as he started smashing his fist on the plexi-glass and saying “give me my fucking money”. He’s an absolute legend but surprised he still alive considering how many drugs he’s taken
Great story about the bank! I remember 60 Minutes some years back doing a story on Shaun's rise to success and his drug addiction that almost did him in.
@@intothemusic908 A photographer that used to work with Shaun has a great story about him. Apparently Shaun always forgot his keys so he used to smash a pane of glass in his window every time he came home... there's a video on it somewhere. Haha
Met him walking his dog when he was living in my town trying to get away from Manny for his health, i was 14 and he asked me where to buy smack, ahhhhhhhh Shaun, what a ledge lol 😆
Yeah.."sack it" means give up. A lot of Shaun's lyrics are slangy. Kind of 'in-jokes'. Street talk. If you liked this song, you'll LOVE the rest of the album. It's a classic here in the UK...but so underrated.
6 lads from a rough, run down part of town. Shaun has said that if they weren't in a band, they probably would have ended up in prison. They were chaotic a lot of the time...but i love beauty coming out of chaos. That's Happy Mondays.
I saw these play Elland Road in the early 90's, they were great although someone climbed one of the lighting gantries which stopped the show until they came down. 'Wrote for luck' was one of my favourites back in the day.
I'd be interested in your guys opinion on the band Can- They influenced so many bands like Stone Roses and Happy Mondays. 'Can - Halleluwah' you can definitely her some Happy Mondays there. Except its from 1971. Also 'The Small Faces - The Journey', sounds like a Madchester song from 1968.
Have you stumbled upon Neds Atomic Dustbin yet? Same time period as a lot of the 90's U.K. indie that you have been enjoying, I highly recommend the song Happy! I have a feeling that you will enjoy the fact that they operate with two bass players and have such a high and fun energy to them.
This is Greg here. I loved that band during my 80s "new wave" phase. Actually have never really grown out of it, although they now call it alternative or something like that. Not Sleeping Around was my go-to song for them. In fact, that entire album is very good.
7 months on and only two mondays tunes and you loved them both. Come on guys get it together. Try the egg or wrote for luck or many many more. The late great john peel who loved this band.
Not sure if it’s been suggested already, but if you haven’t seen it then watch the film ‘24 hour party people’ it’s about Tony Wilson en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Wilson and the Manchester music scene from the mid 70’s through to the early 90’s. An enjoyable watch ✌🏼
The 'Yippee Yippee yip yi yah' is lifted straight from Patti & Labelle Lady Marmalade
One of the greatest opening lines ever, "Son I'm thirty, I only went with your mother caus she's dirty."
Up there with Monty Pythons “ Inflammation of the Foreskin, reminds me of your smile” or the Waterboys. When I left my home and my family, my mother said to me “it’s not how many Germans you kill, it’s how many people you set free” from Red Army Blues.

Predictive text is a bastard my friend ✌️

The guitarist with the Mondays is Mark Day...so underrated. All the Mondays' songs have amazing Day Riffs!

Pills Thrills and Bellyaches is a perfect album. I was a big fan and still listen once in a while.
love this band seen them play in scotland crazy gig many years ago

Beauty out of the chaos... . Well said!

91. Come on down the brave raver.
Black Grape! Another Ryder great.
The unheard tribulations of an executioner
Watch the video for this song. Seeing Shaun Ryder sing explains everything about them. It works
yes! That's it... And Bez...
Rowena doing Atmosphere by Joy Division with Peter Hook And The Light is stunningly good.
The Happy Mondays were Frank Gallagher - the UK version - 20+ years before Frank Gallagher was a thing :D

I can’t hear “Yippy Kiya” without hearing the Bruce Willis version
God's Cop from that album is a tune and a half..... you gotta hear that one
Very underrated tune of theirs

@@intothemusic908 I just scored a copy on silver coloured vinyl, that pleased me no end!
Yes, 'Grey Cell Green' by the Ned's! :)
Happy Mondays ft Karl Denver- Lazyitis is cool, it's a Beatles mash up and gives a flavour of their earlier stuff.
I don't focus on the lyrics first listen...i tend to listen to the song as a whole.
They were a bunch of thugs but loved them. You should watch 24 Hour Party People. It was a movie but a song of theirs too.

The chorus was inspired by Lady Marmalade. :)

Love your takes! Do Bryan Ferry's Valentine with Mark Knopfler on guitar. He almost plays it like a zither. Top 5 guitar all time on my list.
Excited to look into this!
From PILLS thrills and belly aches. Terrrific
ack, watch the live version just to see Bez dancing..
Please react to Atmosphere and Twenty Four Hours, both by Joy Division.
Please react to 'The Libertines' Or Kasabian.....
Please react to The Specials - Gangsters
Do loose fit and step on
