Every one loves there old home Town . I loved and still love Lorain live there 1948 until 2017 only reason I left was My husband had dementia we moved to. TN because we needed help . I ve had a real, hard time leaving the place I loved when i crossed 31Street Bridge I was in love with Lorain. It was a beautiful place to live
Lorain is a great place, they are working hard to clean up and get people interested in activities there! I like the docks on the lake, Black River Landing, and Downtown is much nicer. LOVE Rainbow Market on Pearl and El Kefon!
1319 lehigh on the East side. My grandpa built that house. 3442 Livingston Ave. I grew up in that house on the west side. I'm 43 living in Germany now. Thanks for these memories.
One more thing, The History. This town was booming for several generations. It had a Ford plant on the west side of town, another on the east side in Avon Lake, with a shipyard on the Black River, and Thew Shovel building cranes on the southside along with The National Tube Co, aka United States Steel. With the exception of the Avon Lake Ford Plant, all the others are gone.
Oh, man. At 20:37 you passed by a long abandoned Convenient Food Mart where we'd ride our bikes to as a kid and get candy and trading cards. Lorain isn't what it was, but it was great back in the 80's as a kid.
2:59 I used to live there! Honestly (before I moved) it had gotten alot better than it had been it used to be Gunshots every night in the summer but after the lady at the end of the street moved out with her hoodlum ass kids it got better
I left Lorain Ohio 2017 And I don’t recognize anything I lived in south lorain on River dr . I will be buried in Amherst as we made that arrangement years ago . I’m 91. My body will be there soon according to my age I’ll be in Heaven . Thank you for the video
This is the East side. The first turn he made was north on Massachusetts to G Street. That's all LMHA housing, the city does not repair roads in those parts. At 3:26 I see a couple of real nice people I know, sitting out in their driveway. The next turn is to Michigan, then left to Larkmoor Street. He makes his way to Colorado, then back to county housing. I just don't get the point of wasting time like that. At 7:59 he comes to a house that is well cared for, nice fence, landscape.
East Lorain is the more quiet part of Lorain when compared to the West Side & South Side. It’s also the smallest side of Lorain as well. Mainly blue collar working class as far as the entire city goes. The East Side use to be a little more rowdy in the late 90’s & early 2000’s as far as drugs & drug trafficking goes. It was the entry point into Lorain coming from Sheffield & Avon/Avon Lake, so drug dealers had the 1st pickings of crack-heads & coke heads etc that came from those parts of Lorain County looking for drugs. But when the Lorain County Sheriff’s Dept created the Lorain County Drug Task Force at the beginning of the 2000’s, they really started to hammer down on drugs & drug trafficking & they knew how popular East Lorain was as far as out of towner’s coming into Lorain, stopping in East Lorain 1st to score whatever they were looking for & the Task Force honestly did their job pretty well as far as that goes. It’s 2024 now and there still is some drug trafficking going on in East Lorain, as it’s still the entry point into Lorain (if you’re coming from eastern cities & towns of Lorain & Cuyahoga County), but it’s no where near how it used to to be. Crack & Cocaine isn’t as popular as it once was. It’s more of an opioid epidemic these days with Heroin & Fentanyl unfortunately. But that’s everywhere in the city & America in general. East Lorain is still the more quiet part of Lorain as it always was & a lot of people like that about East Lorain. As far as Lehigh Street goes, it may look sketchy, but that’s just because there’s just some abandoned ran down homes on that street is all. Mainly caucasian hillbillies/ trailer park trash use to live on those few side streets over there. Nothing dangerous about it however. All the drugs & drug trafficking were mainly in the Fillmore/Cromwell areas for the most part. I’m an East Lorainite myself, born & raised & still am on the East Side to this day. The whole city is poor for the majority. But as far as day to day living goes, I still rather live in East Lorain than the West or South Sides because it’s just more quiet & less vehicle traffic (excluding Colorado Ave at certain times of day).
@juliefriedrich92 maybe crap was a bit harsh but it's definitely declined since I was a child. I visited a little while ago and I do hope they continue to develop black river landing and I hope they still have the international festival!

Thanks for all the info.
even tho the city is kinda crap now, I do have fond memories growing up there
It's not crap, they've cleaned up and refurbished the past couple of years...downtown and Black River Landing are drawing people for activities.

@@andrewslife1979 what are the safe areas of Lorain ohio
If I were to live in Lorain I would live on the far South side towards Amherst such as the neighborhoods around Cooper Foster and Colby avenue
