I see a lot of videos where people act goofy about filming. If the store manager had any brains at all, they would realize these videos from you, Jade the Libra, and others like you prompt people to seek out these products and buy them. These videos give us a glimpse of what is available in their stores. It’s not causing any harm.Keep on, Cris!
I agree. I am building my channel, and I asked a restaurant near my filming location about shooting a 5 minute gopro video, they told me no. That is their right, but I don't get it.
You can hold up your phone and if they ask you say you are getting advice on decorations from Tampa Jay 😊😊😊😊👻👻👻👻👻most places have recording policies I've always done it carefully
I don't know what that employee at that Michael's location was thinking? Different UA-camrs have been filming in Michael's and other stores for years. It let's people like me know what's out. So I will know if it is worth it to travel to a store. Omg all the lighting! I love festive lighting! So glad you made it out to that a different location.
Yeah my experience with chain stores is it depends on who's running the store. I have met some lovely Managers at various stores but also my share of rude Jackasses too. You handled it beautifully & with grace Cris.
I'm not saying I agree with them. But, honestly most stores do have rules, and policies against filming. Target, and Walmart most notably. It's usually for protection. Mostly against competitors knowing stock, pricing, sales and deals. Most people don't know or realize because posting on UA-cam, TikTok, and other social media, has become so normalized in the last decade and and a bit. Most everyone has a camera in their pockets. And so many people post all aspects of daily life, and happenings all day long. I think a lot of employees don't care enough or have the time or energy to enforce it. I love watching store walk-thrus. Love to see what's out there. And it's fun to see what other people get! I have seen a few people that I watch get scolded, and or kicked out for filming in different grocery chains, and also Target. Probably because competitors are known to secret shop and see what their up against. It can be easy to be discrete though! Using a phone (back camera) and pretending to talk to someone, rather than talk like you're presenting something, and not moving the phone in a way that it's obvious that you're filming.
Oh thank you! I've been looking for a branchy tree that doesn't have glitter and i work mon through Friday so I don't like to waste my weekend searching every store for something they might not have! Watching these videos gives me my list of where I need to go

She's gone now...and we inherited all her cool stuff. We have a Halloween hallway. This displays some of her favorite Halloween things year round. But you can never have enough Halloween!!!!! I worked at a Michaels for 12 years and we used to have influencers come film all the time. I know some were setup through corporate, maybe reaching out there first to make sure they are aware you are coming, but it shouldn't be a problem!
You could check out Robert's Christmas Wonderland in Clearwater has had a Spooky Town village on display in the past. I'm not sure on their filming policy but it's local and has charm!

I am so horrified at the way you was treated. Good videos like yours, Tampa Jays, The Deal Guy, and others that show whats in stores. It makes us want to go see whatelse there is in the stores. Or we see stuff we want to run out and buy.. its good for us and for businesses. Its free advertisement for them.. I just am so shocked..I do have a tree this year that I decorate with the holidays. I certainly get it, the frustration. I had a very successful utube channel with 100k subs. I tried to vlog several times inside stores and always got kicked out. I finally stopped doing it. It is very frustrating, I loved doing vlogmas for Christmas and it was hard. Most stores will not allow from what I have experienced. I wish you luck.❤
The neon stuff is super cute and I love the talking lights. I was a retail manager and the filming is usually discouraged because the company wants to control the way their store is represented. Even though your intentions are good, they don’t know that for sure. Let’s say you walk into a Michael’s that is dirty or has bare shelves. Or the lines are extremely long and the cashier is rude. Some people who have never entered a Michael’s might think that’s normal. But if you film with your phone you probably won’t attract attention from the manager since they are too busy to watch everyone in their store.
I work at Aldi and we were told not to allow filming because something about competitors could be coming in and taking whatever information could be beneficial to them. I don't know all the details behind it but it has something to do with competitors. They should have been more transparent with you about that.

I work at a library and my understanding is that it's a constitutional right for people to film in an establishment, but another customer would be within their rights to ask you not to film them. I don't know if it's different since a library is a government building and Michael's is a store, but you're in public.
@CristheGirl yeah it became a big thing a couple years ago that people were testing us on purpose by filming in libraries and other public establishments to see if we'd tell them to stop. It's their right to film, so we're supposed to let them (with reason-no bathrooms or staff areas or anything).

Just a thought: I saw a video awhile back where a show was featured and three men were inadvertently video'd in the background and were angry. The outcome was a hassle for the one filming, in fact it was dangerous. One just doesn't know who's roaming around.

I suspect if you recorded with your phone that the store manager wouldn't have minded. But a large camera could possibly make him nervous, thinking you might be a professional. What was the item you wanted but couldn't find? Also, was the glass coffin 40% off? I like your videos, Cris, and I found you pretty recently, but they are about as twice as long as I would like. I know your point about filming, but many stores got free promotion for every single seasonal decor, thanks to you and a bunch of Halloween lovers they increase their sales, after watch videos I run to stores grabbing the items because later is too late, nothing is over there or simple sold out. Thanks a lot for your great job filming for us, just keeping going and I think you can letting to the manager store about filming, so I think you can prevent any incovenience.

Just a thought: I saw a video awhile back where a show was featured and three men were inadvertently video'd in the background and were angry. The outcome was a hassle for the one filming, in fact it was dangerous. One just doesn't know who's roaming around.
