Bill Cowher was the perfect coach for the Steelers. He brought that hard-nosed, blue collar work ethic that Pittsburgh was known for and a defensive minded intensity as a former player. The defenses under Cowher were incredible and made you earn every point and every yard. Coach Cowher, thank you for the memories of those hard-hitting Steelers football games and welcome to Canton.

That's because he was a son of Pittsburgh... he grew up here... and he knew how to inspire people, however also to make them put in the hard work they needed to put in. And he held people accountable. And as we all saw on the sidelines, he never held back. But the players respected him. He earned their respect with his knowledge and he brought out the best of everyone around him. Miss him to this day! But he absolutely deserved all the accolades he got. And he absolutely deserves being in the Football Hall of fame! Congrats to you Coach Cowher!!!!

Bill Cowher sure as hell deserved (💯%) that long ovation just before his speech started. That man was responsible for bringing back respectability and success to the Steelers organization. Him and former GM Tom Donahoe worked together in drafting, cultivating, and curating some of the best talent in Steelers history from 1992 to 1997. Cowher gave the Steelers their first AFC Championship (1995) since 1979, their first Super Bowl appearance (1995) since 1979, and their first Super Bowl ring (2005) since 1979.
*Steelers fans from 1980 to 1991 were STARVING for sustained or consistent success and of course a Super Bowl title, and Cowher got Steeler Nation both of those measures of success.* Not only that, when Cowher retired after the 2006 season, he didn't leave the cupboard bare for his successor Mike Tomlin. Tomlin inherited Ben Roethlisberger. Tomlin netted a playoff berth in 2007. *Tomlin inherited 27 players that Cowher and his coaching staff, team scouts, and GM Kevin Colbert either scouted, drafted, coached up, or got in free agency that helped him win a Super Bowl ring in 2008.* Cowher did so much for the Steelers it ain't even funny bro.

So thankful he mentioned Marty. He should've had a chance to go in while he was alive. Most underrated head coach in recent history. Every team he left had a worst winning pct. with the coach who followed him. He had a better winning pct. than every coach he replaced. 2 fumbles and John Elway being great are keeping him out.

Any coach who goes to 2 AFC Title Games with Kordell Stewart AND goes to 2 AFC Title Games & a Super Bowl with Neil O’Donnell at QB is an all time great. He finally got a franchise QB his last 2 years in Ben: 15-1 Ben’s rookie year, and a Super Bowl title the next year. Thanks for everything, Coach Cowher - so glad to see you in the Hall of Fame!!

I'm glad that he gave all the love and praise to his late wife, his kids, and the Rooney family. Rip Dan rooney. He definitely unreplaceable... you don't find another Dan or any anywhere. He was absolutely amazing. Anyhow, Pittsburgh loves coach Bill cowher. And I'm glad to see that he shared the love for our city. I remember the days as an elementary school kid way over in San Diego (I'm a Chargers die-hard fan by the way, since 1993) watching you catch TD passes near the back of the end zone or just finding ways to make plays for the Chiefs and Falcons. The last part of that speech brought tears to my eyes, because it told a truth that we know in our hearts but sometimes overlook. Dan's offering the Rosary Beads to Bill - and Bill accepting them though he was not Catholic - exemplifies how we can accept and love one another regardless of our differences. It was at that moment that I realized that of last night's Steeler inductees, Donnie Shell is African-American, Troy Polamalu is a Pacific Islander, and Bill Cowher is a white Yinzer. But they are part of the same family - the Steeler family, and Steeler Nation loves them all as beloved members of our chosen family. If only the whole world was more like that.

I liked Cower when he was the defensive coordinator in KC. I saw an ESPN profile of him. And I respect the hell out of him. He was a great coach...a great husband....a great father. Not necessarily in that order. He is a class act...and though the Steelers were a foe for teh Chiefs over the years....they were greater because of him. Congratulations coach.

Cowher's run as the Steelers coach is a story in belief. Every owner should look at what the Rooney family has done as owners who stick with their coaches through thick and thin, because it creates the culture of belief in themselves and it passes down each generation of players.
The Steelers are one of my favorite teams because of how they stay with their head coach and developed the culture of how football should be. Every team should learn from this.

Remember he was Cleveland Brown first by playing for them and then a coach. Respect him as a coach and a person but hated it when he went to coach the other team

After he won the Super Bowl, the next year the team relaxed and wasn't quite as good. If you watched some of the post-game press conferences, you could see that Cowher had lost a bit of that fire that drove him. He had fun. He laughed. He wasn't as bothered by some of the losses. Not a criticism - just an observation.
It's natural that after fighting since the 1990s to reach the top, once he found it, his happiness stayed with him for some time.
While chasing that NFL title that eluded him so many times, Cowher was scary intense. You could see it in his expressions, his glare, the spit that flew from his mouth during his sideline rants with clenched fists. It was all there.
He was the opposite of Chuck Noll - the man he replaced. Chuck Noll did a great thing by never uttering a word about Bill Cowher. Noll allowed Cowher to be his own man.
Both were winning coaches with polar opposite sideline demeanors. I'm glad that they both are in the NFL Hall of Fame. Without a doubt, Marty Schottenheimer should be in the NFL Hall of Fame.

If it werent for Coach Marty Schottenheimer, Bill wouldn't be in the hall. He gave Bill his 1st coaching opportunity. Bill was thinking about retiring and going back to his hometown to be a high school coach. Coach Marty saw something in him and the rest is history.🏈🏈
