I find music of yesterdays is more symbolic, deep, stirs the crying and reflect upon yourself reaction. Music of today just makes me feel dirty and used.

The saying is “There are no atheists in foxholes”.
I think this song uses the imagery of Hell (the lands of the Morning Star) and the Angel as the saviour not in a literal, but a metaphorical way - as does all great art. It doesn't mean that atheists suddenly turn to god in hard times (which is an absurd and simplicistic, if not even vindictive notion: belittlling those of us who do not and don't have to believe in something supernatural), but that all of us sometimes need a saviour, which can be as simple as a good friend, a real person. Like the many good people who do NOT pray, but actually help others - be they religious or not.
This is what every power ballad wants to be. The singer knows he’s in Hell but has this rebellious hope of salvation. It works for people who feel lost for love but is also played at funerals. So haunting and sublime. Glad you were introduced to this gem.
And for a real banger by Scorpions, definitely give "The Zoo" a listen. It's gold!
