  • Hello again, it's been a few weeks since I've picked up a pinstriping brush (xcaliber size 0000 because someone is gonna ask anyway) so I thought I'd knock out a quick one.
    I'm practicing on paper as it's easy to clear away and saves me prepping and cleaning panels (and if I like what I've done, it's easy to keep and store).
    Paint is all 1Shot enamel.
    About 12 minutes paint time.
    If you've any questions or suggestions for videos, ask in the comment section below.
    Music is made in GarageBand using some free samples from musicradar.com, editing is done in iMovie.

    Stay sticky you painty huffin' mother lovers and keep kustom art weird 😎

      Hello, sorry for the late reply, your comment was blocked because you missed a space and youtube thought it was a link.
      Yes, a slight roll in the brush, in the direction of the curve will keep the shorter hairs on the underside of the brush from sticking out and ruining the line. It's not always necessary but it's a good habit to get into early on.
      Thank you so much for watching and subbing.
      Keep practicing, keep it fun and you're welcome to ask questions if you need to.

      @@PaintySniffers Im always baffled by guys like you when I see the confidence that shows in your strokes. Do you sketch out anything else besides the centerline?
      And what's your secret for the symmetry? Is it your trained "paint eye muscle"? do you use grids (like the Kafka liner sheet)? I tried achieving it with peripheral viewing, but that didn't help too much . still have a long way to go till I'm at your level :-)

    • @PaintySniffers
      @PaintySniffers  4 роки тому

      @@marcotrevissoi2164 it really does all come down to practice. I've been doing this for a long time.
      I don't normally sketch anything other than a center line, sometimes i may sketch a line in to make sure I'm happy with the symmetry before I commit that to paint.
      (if I told you my secret to symmetry it wouldn't be a secret, would it?)
      I used to use a grid when I first started, there's nothing wrong with using one, just try not to rely on it too much. Try using fewer and fewer lines in your grid until you don't need one anymore.

    Nice. I'm using glass to practice on. I hear pro's and cons. What's your opinion? Thanks and have nice day.

    • @PaintySniffers
      @PaintySniffers  3 роки тому

      You can practice on glass, it’s easy to clean and you can place a guide under it to copy.
      I don’t normally recommend glass for learning as it’s a very slippery surface to work on, if it’s your intention to work mostly on vehicles then I’d recommend practicing/learning on a painted surface like an old car panel, that make more sense to me. I’m sure there’s plenty of people that would disagree with me though.
      All practice is good practice, try painting on loads of different stuff (pinstripe everything).
      Remember to keep it fun 👍
      Thank you for watching, have a great day and keep practicing.

    Great work (as always!). I’ve been looking for a good practice surface. I recently tried a roll of heavy brown masking paper but it seemed too absorbent, pulling paint out of the brush. Maybe I need to find paper with a smoother surface. What would you recommend for practice?

    • @PaintySniffers
      @PaintySniffers  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you.
      The best ever surface to practice on would be anything that closely resembles a car or bike finish. Try and find a metal panel that’s been painted with automotive paint. If you have enough room then maybe get an old car bonnet (hood) and practice on that.
      Paper will soak up the paint, some more than others. I think I got lucky with these rolls but can’t remember where I got them.
      Another good surface is Alupanel, it’s a sign making material and is really stiff and light. You should be able to pick some up at any sign supply shop.
      It’s two very thin aluminium sheets bonded to a plastic core.
      I hope this helps you, feel free to ask any other questions 👍
      Stay safe and have fun.

      @Robert Wolski Cool, I'm glad you found a good reusable surface to practice on. I may try to find some tiles when I've got time.

      Have fun, stay safe and I'll be back with the funk soon.

    so im left handed and just starting . is there left handed and right handed brushes? Do i need to hold it upside down ? Because this shitz pissing me off. The first brush i bought was working great then i cut it and ruined it. Then i bought some more and i cant get any of them to do what i want. Is every brush different or wtf ? Its making me depressed

    • @PaintySniffers
      @PaintySniffers  5 років тому +3

      It shouldn't matter that you're left handed, the brush should work the same way. Most brushes don't need cutting, only sometimes it's necessary to trim a few hairs at the tip.
      The Mack series 30 Dagger brush will work both ways up as it's the same shape top and bottom.
      Every brush is slightly different, some seem to work better than others but they all work.
      Don't let it piss you off, step back, calm down and then try again. You will get better with practice.
      I hope this helps.

    Worst surface to stripe on other than cement,why practice on a surface you’ll NEVER have to stripe on?

    • @PaintySniffers
      @PaintySniffers  2 роки тому

      Hi Steve, the paper was the only thing I had around here to paint on. I don’t have a lot of space to store panels.
      It’s actually not too bad for this style of pinstriping once you’ve got used to it, it would be awful for scroll styles like you do.
      Hope you’re well mate.
