Pomade is made to add shine with a strong hold, clay is what supposed to add texture and hold with a matte finish or low shine
They both "add" texture by just holding the texture your hair has from the scissor techniques. Clay can somewhat actually add texture though. But if you have a barber like Lance (no glaze) who knows how to texture straight hair pomade can be just as textured as clay, it just has more shine which you may or may not want.
What comment said above lol, Pomade also adds texture and volume. It's just preference.

I see so many things online about how to style fine straight hair with less volume and texture, but I have straight coarse hair that’s very thick so it gets a good amount of natural texture and volume. I wish lance would make a short or something on haircare, styling, and styles for coarser thicker straight hair
