- HMS St Albans is returning to sea after a four-year refit at His Majesty's Naval Base Plymouth.
The Type-23 frigate shines like new, thanks to the extensive work completed during the overhaul.
As the ship undergoes simulated sea exercises with seasoned sailors guiding the new recruits, it marks a crucial step towards full operational readiness.

1:29 seaman specialist you've done her dirty there like haha no need at all 😂
My father served in the fleet air arm on carriers out in the Pacific during WW2. He didn't often talk about it, but he said enough to make me realise that you had to pull your weight and look after yourself and your mates. I wish these young men and women every success in their careers, but i fear for them....serving on under manned and undergunned ships..... that professional and hard edged Navy of my fathers day has long since gone. Mores the pity.
Best wishes to crew and ship for smooth sailing and a productive ‘breaking-in’ deployment!
1:30 Considering the name of the job, I think she wants to get to another post ASAP :D
Maybe she likes being a seaman specialist! LOL 😜
@@guderian7795 Far more likely it’s your good self, that likes a bit of Rear Seaman Specialist???? 😍😱🥰🚀💝
@@mac2626 No, that is your department.
@@guderian7795 that's a sticky subject that's hard to swallow
Good to see the ship back in action!
Thanks Tim! And To All The Navy Soldiers & Airmen keeping us all Safe!!
We Owe you so Much, So Seriously! *Thank YOU!!*
Are you British? Do you like the USA and Americans?
Fine looking shipnavy needs more ships like this and sailors to man them
Seaman specialist!
Favorite kind of girl!
I saw that. And she was a female. A gender neutral name change is called for. Haha.
Yup did a double take when I heard that.😂😂
Two of the ABs commented said it was their first time at sea in my day you couldn't become an AB until you qualified as an ordinary seaman at sea
no ODs now straight out of training as an AB bit like sun dodgers you can join the branch straight away now times have changed shipmate
@@D130596V sounds like his majesty's navy is more about welfare than warfare could you imagine this lot coping in 1982
All the best shipper's 👍
Today's navy is more interested in welfare than warfare I wonder how this lot would cope in 1982@@D130596V all the best shippers 👍
They're in the deep end these days, no extra training ashore lol!
If she has been upgraded with latest equipment, she will be an asset on patrols.
GREAT to see the ship was not wanked off by the UK Gov and MOD.
Beautiful ship like always! 💪🇬🇧👍

Thanks Tim 🤩
Tim Cooper has looked more comfortable on other occasions - lovely weather for it. Thanks for the video.
He seems to be getting wider?
Named after my town👍🏻

I say from experience it sucks to be a sailor in the yards. It is a necessary thing that is celebrated when it's over. Always nice to get underway again and figure out what they broke this time!
If you have to live aboard during yard work then it is a major pain. If they've been given quarters ashore things could be worse.
Could have built a new one in 4 years
At millions of extra cost.
Fair winds as you return to sea everyone
Corny .They don't need fair winds, they have engines these days .
That makes - what? Six - eight- warships capable of putting to sea? Nelson must be spinning in his grave.
yes we need moer ships but no its far more we ahve around 10 capable of going to sea and 8-10 at sea already , additionaly we have 8 patrol ships , 1 in carribean, 1 in gibraltar, 1 in falkladns, 2 in pacific and 3 at home, they are patrol ships and do need moer weaponry but are still 90 or so metres and weigh 2200 tonnes and can project power across the world , we need more ships yes but dont believe the media entirely ever but especially when it comes to our dwindiling but still mighty powerful military.
Please don't comments of things you clearly know nothing about.
Wouldn't dream of it Jamie. Sage advice. Also...and I'm not being picky or anything...but generally one comments 'on' things, not 'of' ? I always find slap-downs carry a bit more clout if they're in decent English. @@jamiefenn1799
@@jamiefenn1799Jamie, it’s ’comment on’ not ‘comments of’. I always think it’s good to draft one’s put-downs in decent English. Apart from grammar that’s sound advice though.
4 year refit, a year operational then decommissioned. That's how usually works these days.
its about time the UK was getting things right you only get one chance at sea if you dont then you loose
good luck to them steep learning curve ahead
I salute all our military services for protecting us proud to be British

Childcare should be good practical experience when you get promoted to deal with lower ranks at sea in the navy 😃✌️❤️🇬🇧
A refit should never take 4 years. Absolutely ridiculous.
They don't have enough people to crew all the ships so when a ship is modernised they take the opportunity to basically lay it up for a few years.

So any chance you're going to the English channel to protect against the invasion?
Isn’t the Royal navy’s job
@@TheIceman567 what? That's exactly what their job is , or should be still instead of floating away and protecting other countries seas
@@thisisengland7806 no that’s the job of the cost guard and immigration
@@TheIceman567 ok, but seeing as they're not doing their job don't you think that a sensible idea would be to send our navy? I'm sure several kings and queens in the past have done that
@@thisisengland7806 well they never had to deal with the problems like that, I’m American but have lived in the UK. I don’t think sending a billion pound ship to deal with diggies is what they are made for.
If the Royal Navy gave people a decent contract like the Dutch of 30 years , it would keep more of its specialists. The problem is that senior officers have no time for the lower deck and care only about their next promotion .
You CAN sign on for 25 years right from day one. The main problem is that forces people in the Uk, and USA get more pay working for "security" firms, not contract length.
@@thetruthhurts7675 it’s a two tier system to the detriment of the “ Lower Deck” as many officers continue in service past 60 years of age and just take part time work after that. It’s time to level up the playing field and give the “ Lower Deck “ as good as terms of service as the officer Corps…
@@davidlawton7845 Wierdly way back in 1978 we were being taught by lots of ex chief petty officers, and ex petty officers in our course. These were all guys who had served 25 years and then transfered to the civil service as educators for the Royal navy. Every single one was an ex Artificer. Retention is about money, and nothing else. In fact there were 5 Cheif petty officers, and 6 Warrant officers that I know of, who left in my time, and their actual pensions were greater than their in service wages. Officers I am sorry to say never get that!!
I think they could've enlisted as officers had they possess suitable qualifications. So there shouldn't be any heartburn 😮
Just wondering if the new anti ship missiles are fitted or is it to soon for them?

Use to be a wren on Westminster called swallows ,,,you guessed it 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Able rate and never been to sea what is the navy coming to . Don't they have task books nowadays .

I am confused is this the “new ship” I have been hearing about? Context I am American. Edited.
'as good as new' after a 4 year refit and update is better description. I don't know if this is what you've been hearing about?
you have probaly been hearing about the type 26 or type 31 frigates , they are being built currently and will be commisioning in the navy starting in early 2028, this ship here is an older type 23 frigate, but is the newest of her class, commisioned in the early to mid 1990's so still another 10 or so years until she will be replaced.
SHIP
The inexperience in the crew is a concern.
So it is best to get them experienced. Everyone has to start some where. They are having alondside training, then an 8 to 10 week workup, then at sea trials, then FOST trials. This isn't all done in like 3 days, it may take up to 6 months in total!!
2 weeks bost 4 weeks cost all done at Portland back in the 70/80 18 h days not uncommon @@thetruthhurts7675
Seamen specialist 😂😂😂
= Forbes/ 1000/ of the text of some of his family archive for being positive and address of some
I wonder if the commanding officer has got meat and two veg or is she old school
Can they man her ?
I wonder if we have enough sailors to man/woman it? Also a nice gesture would be to load the missile racks, unlike other Royal Navy ships almost having to use pointy sticks to defend themselves,
Woke a F.....

That is why it is having it's before sea trials now. I don't know about other people but I personally think your opinions matter nothing here.
Our navy is going soft, manned by a bunch of snowflakes. If things get hot the russians will eat us alive . Ive stopped watching 'warship' on the telly cos the crew come across as woke and unprofessional . Sad !
They did seem unprofessional and that Jack the lad who went AWOL should have been booted out straight away. (if you watch the last episode you will find out how he ended up), all really predictable really. The sailors shouldn't be macho but they need to be tough and not overly emotional, their purpose is to kill the enemy in a war after all.
