- When I was new to record collecting I was in search for some of the forgotten artist. Melanie was someone many kept recommending to me. I found some of her records at my local record shop and began to learn more about her as my record collecting continued. She recently passed away and I wanted to make a video to tell others about her who are wondering who Melanie was. She has some great songs, some of her hits are linked below. #Melanie #melanieschekeryk

I know Melanie now isn’t super well known today, it’s what made finding her music so special. She passed away January 23,2024 and wanted to highlight some of her albums that I own. ❤
I never knew of her music career. I'll check out her back catalog.
@@tudormiller887 😊 ❤️
I got into her music about 20 years ago when still in my early 20's. Probably the last thing any hip, nihilistic fellow Gen-Xer would have been into at the time. Didn't care. Her music connected to me. Her passing cuts deep 💔 Thank you for sharing!
She was super brave to sing about what she believed in, Melanie was very rare
She was/is a Beautiful person!!!
Totally agree ❤️
Love that old folk music. Another good video.
Thank you 😊
Very nice tribute well done. Those were the artists that I loved that are slowly disappearing from sight. Sad to think. Loved the video.
Tony, Melanie was in my top3 ,behind Linda and Melissa M. Hey bud.
@@josephpolaster2271 Joe, the voices of those ladies always got me. But what stole the show was the dark beautiful eyes. That’s how the Queen stole my heart.
@@twofromthetrunk9932 oh you romantic😂. Linda and Melanie eyes are mesmorizing❤
Oh I know right, I am happy to hear so many did end up living a long private life after their fame days.
@@twofromthetrunk9932how sweet ❤
R.I.P. Melanie. She is a gem! Nice tribute, Monie! 🫶🏽
Thank u for sending a Melanie record too!
I still can't believe it, just two weeks ago Melanie proudly announced her new double album "The Eagle Mountain House" on her official UA-cam channel. The last song I heard from her last year was "LAY DOWN (Candles In The Rain) Melanie & The Edwin Hawkins Singers v. 1970, it's also one of my favourite albums and the cover photo is fantastic. Her performances at Woodstock, Glastonbury etc. are unforgettable, she was such a free spirit, rest in peace dear Melanie 🙏Your beautiful songs live on☮❤ thank you so much for your kind tribute, best regards from Berlin.
Yes! That's what Ive been hearing, she was working on some new work. I hope she was able to record a few songs.
That was a lovely tribute to Melanie Monie 😊 ! She made quite an impression at Woodstock. Nice needledrop !
Oh thank you! I was surprised to find out her songs wasn’t on the Woodstock album, later read it didn’t make it.
Really nice tribute! I honestly don't know too much from Melanie, I only know a couple songs, I'll check out more of her music at some point. 🙂
Yeah I think after she went to her own label she was no longer being pushed out, i had never heard of her before ppl mentioned her here
Sad news - was fan prior to Woodstock - she had huge hits in Australia in the 70's. Major singer-songwriter with a unique & beautiful voice. Glad younger people are discovering her artistry.
That’s amazing you’ve been a fan from her early days. I heard in a npr interview she was part of the New York folk movement
@@MonieMuse oh absolutely part of the scene centred around Greenwich Village. Last time she toured in Australia was 2014 (have the poster) and some of the profits were donated to a animal rights/ anti cruelty group. Cheers to good music with political commitment!
Melanie always reminded me of my aunt ❤ rip
Aw 😍
Heard lay down by Melanie a few years ago on bbc radio 6, it is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard, it makes the hairs on the back of my neck stand up every time! She absolutely belts it out!
She does! She sings it w such heart ❤️
Aloha MonieMuse ,
Very nice tribute to Melanie. Not sure if I still have my copy of the good book, if I do the front cover is bang-up. Lol, a few weeks ago I purchased her

Funny my copy is torn as well, bad design lol
Melanie was my celebrity crush back in the day, and her passing hit me hard; I loved her in life, and I love her in death.
She was so beautiful and was her one unique person, really stood out to me when I first discovered her music ❤️
on woodstock vol 11 she does a couple of songs , so
heartfelt and beautiful; for me the highlight 🎧🎭🎧
Really! I’m so glad to hear, the copy I have didn’t have her song. I’ll have to hunt that one down
I didn't know of her...and I am a lil aged at 61..haha. But you've given a lovely tribute!
I can totally understand not knowing her music, I never hear her stuff anywhere. Finally saw a video of her on Instagram being shared ❤️
"Ring the Living Bell" Important to me in 73. Gather Me.
oh that's so sweet
@@MonieMuse Even better, from that same Gather Me album: "What Wonderous Love is This, Oh My Soul" the old hymn. Lovely..
Hey Monie, it’s been a while 😊. I really hated to hear of her passing. One of my favorite artists. I subscribed to her channel for the last few years. She always took the time to respond to comments. I just watched her last video during Christmas. It was her reading The Night Before Christmas. It was nice and she seemed healthy for almost 80. Bless her heart she was the sweetest and a beautiful singer songwriter.
Warms my heart to know younger people are listening to her😊
That’s so sweet to hear! I gotta check out some of her videos, thanks for sharing w me 😊
@@MonieMuse she has some great videos on her channel. Her and Miley Cyrus are awesome

Beautiful❤ Her song,, Look what they've done to my song ma. Explains why she created her own lable. I believe the first woman to do so. Thx.
Oh yes I was like wow she said it!! 😂
Very nicely done MM thank you for that.
😊❤️ I’m enjoying watching some of her old concerts and performances, UA-cam is recommending them to me now.
Melanie had a no. 1 hit in 1971-72 with "Brand New Key".
Wow I didn’t know that! I just learned she was only 22 at Woodstock
I don't know this artist, but I've long believed in being adventurous and have often found treasure in the forgotten and the obscure. JACKSON C. FRANK being a perfect example.... He wrote and released the only album of his career in 1965, but Rolling Stone has cited him as being "one of the best forgotten songwriters of the 1960s" and he has influenced many singer-songwriters, including the likes of Paul Simon (who produced the album), Sandy Denny, Bert Jansch, Nick Drake, Counting Crows, John Mayer, and Mark Lanegan.
I heard his album (a self-titled project) one day while browsing at Kops Records (a small/local chain up here in Toronto, Ontario) a good while ago and IT GRABBED ME! So, I asked my friend Larry (the manager of the particular Kops location I was at) who it was, he told me it was Jackson C. Frank and showed me a copy of his self-titled record they had for sale. I bought it then and there.
There's also a band called White Ward who underscores why I love the adventure of travelling the realm of music as much as I do because they're a Black Metal band from Ukraine who combines this kind of Metal with Late Night Atmospheric Jazz. I blindly bought their album "Love Exchange Failure" when I saw it at Sonic Boom (one of the biggest record stores in Toronto) because the album cover grabbed me and I thought I was going to be in for a Post-Rock album or something other than what they actually are. The opening part of the title track made me think: "OH! This is a Jazz album, cool!", but when the Metal kicked in... I audibly said "WHAT THE FUCK!" like Marisa Tomei's Aunt May did when she saw that Peter is Spider-Man. I LOVE IT THOUGH!
That is an awesome find and discovery, it makes looking for records so rewarding. A songwriter that comes to mind that I would love to find their record is “Labi Siffre”. A few hip hop artist have sampled his work many times. But the whole songs on UA-cam are pretty amazing. I just looked up Jackson c Frank, one of his songs was on the Joker movie. He is a great singer. Now I gotta look for his stuff
@@MonieMuse
Amy Winehouse and Jackson C Frank shared the fact of being really talented and had the potential to be counted among the legends of their genres, and one could argue they are, but they sadly succumbed to their demons and all we're left with are suggestions of what could have been. It's sad.
so Melnaie played at the classic concert!!! i'm guessing not every artist made it to woodstock!!!
sorry to hear about her.
Yeah I didn’t know her song wasn’t on the Woodstock album until I started to look for it ✌🏽it was later released on another project
I don't have any her albums I do have a 45 RPM A Brand New Key just played it not long ago good song.
That's still so cool.
I just received a stack of used vinyl Records from a friend of ours I believe I have one her records in the pile. I'm going to have to go back look at the pile again to see if I do have one of hers. I'll keep you posted if I do.
oh that's awesome!
@@MonieMuse
I just went through my pile and I'm sad to say that I don't have her🤷♂️.
@@robertquesada1136 I have an extra one I’ll give you
Did you hear the NPR Melanie episode they did?
no way! I gotta Google it now
