My other favourite peak performance, by German virtuoso Fischer, sounds 'necessary and just' : in fact quite another point of 'sound'. 'necessary and just' are the two words used by Russian president Putin in March to qualify his 'special military operation'. I wonder what both virtuosos think about their own 'special musical operations' and then this 'special military operation'. They are probably brainwashed by their respective governments. Or maybe not. Well, it should be interesting to let them meet and discuss these 'operations' with a neutral coach, such as a Chinese or Indian or even French citizen. We are far from exhausting all the different forms of intelligence we can gather to tame, dampen, stop the military 'energy'. On the contrary the 'press' stupidly sharpens our 'gregariousness' and wants us to take sides to prolong it. Music is 'inevitably' a far more 'necessary and just' means than the press to solve problems. I hope I have been able to encourage other admirers of Mr Repin and Ms Fischer to encourage them to meet, again with the right diplomatic coaches.
Why does nobody (except Hilary Hahn) play the sul ponticelo in the 2nd movement? He also doesn't get nearly the contrast of tone colors between that and other passages, such as the following muted passage, that Hahn does. The 2nd movement is also too fast to really be playful.
