One of your best reviews…..possibly the 3rd time I’ve watched it. Living in NZ and now the proud owner of about a hoof of a horse with some mates so am going to invite the “syndicate” round for a horse racing games night….this helped massively. Based on availability here, probably “Ready Set Bet” or “Long Shot The Dice Game”..thx mate!
The older 3M ( and later AH )’s Win, Place & Show. It’s ingenious, with each horse having their own ‘personality’. The randomness die rolling leans towards the skill side ( as track ‘speed’ effects ALL horses evenly, and ‘bonus’ is predictable probability-wise). Surprised it didn’t make the list
Excellent video! Unfortunately I've never come across either Horse Fever or Ave Caesar so I don't own them, never played them, and know nothing about them. The other games I do have, and they're all excellent, not taking themselves at all seriously, and pumping out tons of fun because of this.
yes! was just waiting for someone to do this. was contemplating to teach my kids gambling, a good parent that i am, and couldnt decide between ready set bet & winner's circle.
Jesus....who knew that there are more horse Games that ready, set, bet😅well here in México just we have that game...hope we can find a lost Game of the original long shot here😅great video.
Walter Muller's 1989 game, Favoriten, was the prototype for many of the racing/betting games we see today. Briefly: 6 horses, 1d6. On your turn, roll the dice 6 times, once for each horse. You have 3 betting tokens, and the earlier you place your bets, the better your score, and, like Ready, Set, Bet, you can only place 1 token per space. However, betting 2nd on the winner scores you fewer points than betting 1st on the 2nd placed horse etc. Clever and devious.
I managed to buy Winners circle for £10, Longshot for £42 and the KS version of Unicorn Fever (retheme of Horse Fever) for £35!😅 Pretty chuffed! But have had zero time to play any of them yet! 😕
Long Shot is a good game, but doesn’t even hold a candle to Horse Fever in terms of emotions, options and strategy. More Family/Party game. Don’t agree on HF being complicated as a full game. Me and my wife - non-gamers and non-Italian or English speakers - easily digested the rules of the full game from the get-go. Lots of fun. Constantly fan of Yours.
A favourite genre as it easily accommodates 6 players and everyone is familiar with the theme. Ave Caesar and Royal Turf are high on our list of most-played fillers. For a deep dive for deep pockets consider AZA Turfmaster. No love for Totopoly? Me neither.
@@BoardGameBollocks haha! Crap is not good. My daughter loves horses, and is on the equestrian high school school team…just surprised there’s no euro about jumping , breeding, and dressage. We would be all over it.
Turfmaster, Derby (Jägersro), Grand National and Win Place and Show are great horse racing boardgames too.
Was excited to see where Ready Set Bet landed after your review! Can’t wait to get my copy

You’re welcome. Say hello to Zane Lowe for me
Is that a horse?
You’ll have to ask him

Not played it…never heard of it
Long Shoot the Dice Game is great. Love this list!
I feel like Homestretch doesn’t get any love, but I love the racing movement in that one. Can’t wait to try Ready, Set, Bet!
I actually came here out of curiosity to see where in the Top 5 Homestretch would rank. To my surprise it's not here.
Not played it mate. That’s why it’s not there.
@@BoardGameBollocks Cool, no worries. Love your review.

The former if you have a large group

I remember this briefly from the early 90s. It looks really dated now. Chess pieces for horses...
I have Unicorn Fever, the reskin of Horse Fever with Unicorns. Its fun. A lot of yelling. Has elf-mob instead of Mafia lol
A nice review, thanks. I always like Circus Maximus - which is also out of print for a very long time.

Great list, where would you place camel up if it were to qualify for this list?
It doesnt qualify as there’s no horses in it…soz
Fair enough😆
Ave Caesar is great and has just been reprinted by Dice Tree Games with some new maps and totally not Russell Crowe from Gladiator on the cover.
Was that crowdfunded or retail
@@BoardGameBollocks Retail. Debuted at Essen this year. Should be hitting wide release in a month or two.
I’ve emailed them. Looks like a modular board 😲
Just received today your number two choice! Just arranging for enough players .
I agree. Ave Caesar is one of the best boardgames ever.
👍🏻
I think Ready set bet is as hard to get as long Shot. Waiting for a reprint for family games night. Should be a winner.
It’s fantastic

Never played Totopoly…no more tables left to flip
TurfMaster
Totopoly
Grand National
Isn't Long Shot: The Dice Game a replacement for the original Long Shot?
Yes…
I’m curious if there’s any horse themed board games that are good that are not about racing?
I remember playing Horse Party a few years ago. Crap.

No love for turfmaster? 🤔
Not played it mate
No love for Turfmaster?
Not played it mate. Out of print I believe
Actually, it’s not out of print. Made to order though. It is the best horse racing game IMO.
i luv 'orse racin

No horses 🐴
No “homestretch”? What a load of bollocks. :p
Not played it 🤷
