  • Maybe this video sucks but I'm thinking about doing regular updates on everything rugby in America.

    The lacing on the ball in the NY logo is probably a call back to the old days. I played with leather balls for 8 to 10 years before they came up with the new balls.

      When you made the switch to synthetic, what were your thoughts? Was it a gradual process or an immediate change? Thanks for watching!

      @@New_World_Rugby The switch took a few years but just a few.
      The leather balls had some issues. When wet they could get rather heavy and slippery. Over time they tended to lose their shape. There was a particular brand (Wallabies?) that seemed to get very round after only a few matches.
      There was an obvious plus to switching over so there wasn't any resistance to the change.
      I can think of only one advantage leather had. They smelled better.
      That and the fact that you could honestly say;
      "It takes leather balls to play rugby."
