her characterisation is so on point; it's exaggerated but there's still a person there. every look and every gesture is perfectly timed; it's a masterclass in musical comedy acting

That looked like she was almost double jointed in a weird way. And my dogs just looked at me like I was weird because I kept trying to do it. Lol

@@fab36254 that reminds of how fortunate I was to see her. My friend who saw her with me still talk about it 25 years later. For us, has become a synonym for theatrical perfection. Oh! And! We took a group of teenagers (I teach youth theatre) and she posed for pictures with the teens at the stage door post performance! So gracious!

It's probably to do with the fact that the role requires something different than Velma and even Roxie. Velma was a very soft almost talk sing style.

I LOVE Bebe, but I have to admit Queen Latifah owned this role.
I love Bebe, but I'm not a fan of this. It's like she was focused on annunciation rather than getting the humor out of the piece.
