  • With the upcoming release of the Ryzen 5 7600, Ryzen 7 7700 and Ryzen 9 7900, AMD has the potential to finally offer good value Zen 4 based Ryzen 7000 CPUs. In this video we will take a look at AMD's previous "X" and "non-X" CPUs and talk about how these new CPUs could improve over the current AM5 line-up.

    All specs, including 65W TDP for all three new CPUs has been confirmed, announcement most likely at CES 2023.

    This development has happened a little sooner than I expected, but I was anticipating it because of market conditions, very different from 2020-21

      Yes, AMD is clearly selling a lot less CPUs than they expected. But it’s a good development for us consumers.

    There's always Eco- mode that can be used to reduce the heat.
    I got a 7700X for $340 this week, I don't see what having a 65W 7700 at $329 would change. $10-20 difference for a CPU is negligible.
    There's always a cost disadvantage with multi-chip packages. The real budget CPUs are the monolithic APUs, that people complain about not having cutting-edge performance. Well, best performance and budget are two different priorities!

    • @HighYield
      @HighYield  Рік тому

      At the current price level, these new CPUs don’t offer much, that’s why I think AMD will raise prices again for the X models.

    • @davidgunther8428
      @davidgunther8428 Рік тому

      @@HighYield yes, I think so too. At least until the V-cache models are available, and maybe even after that if the V-cache models are priced higher on a per-core basis.
      I just don't see that AMD needs to aggressively discount Zen4 when it's performance is very good, AM4 is an effective budget option and they can always sell the same 5N silicon for more money as EPYC if they need to. However, right now, doing what they can to increase adoption of AM5 helps their partners and their own brand image.

    • @opinali

      Same here, but with the assumption that AMD's second-gen Zen-3D will be sufficiently improved that the v-cache will not create a significant clock handicap like the 5800X3D. If they manage that so the 3D variant doesn't regress performance for any kind of app, that will be a massive win and very likely 0wn Intel for this generation. Otherwise, Intel wins this round.
