Mumbo: the path is optional because it’s kind of expensive for a starting world
Also Mumbo: uses a ton of hoppers and pistons
Mumbo: We're going to use barrels, not because I'm a hipster but to save some wood.
Also Mumbo: An upstairs bedroom? You're gonna need a piece of soul sand and a magma block.
Hoppers and pistons aren't expensive. Redstone is very common when you get low enough (easily done by just mining a long staircase down), and hoppers are just iron and wood, both very common materials.

Mumbo: "Every little bit helps in the first few minutes of a Minecraft world"

my only gripe with this because you need to go to the nether for quartz
@@stellophiliac "starter" niveau or early game is everything up to the point where you defeat the enderdragon, for many even that is early early game.
For Non-Hardcore-Seasons you can pretty much say
Early Game is, when you don't care about dying because you don't really have anything yet.
Mid Game is, when you start caring about staying alive and keeping your stuff, because you start working on your projects.
Late Game is, when you don't care about dying because you don't have anything you need anymore because all your projects are done or you can get it quickly.
And because there neither is a game over, nor a game completed or game won, there is no end to the late game.
There isn't even a late game because you are never really done with your projects, and once you reach your goals you can always set new ones.
So in a nutshell, nether can be considered a "starter" thing
Mumbo: "Every little bit helps"
Also Mumbo: uses 6 raw wood logs instead of planks
@@draedon_ It certainly takes more time than the extra 5 wood you need to mine for the double chests instead of barrels.

Luke: Finally someone who doesn't think like me!
So if this is considered a “starter base”. What would be a “proper base”?
Exactly. The start of the video, I was following completely, even feeling like it was a little too simple, but awesome looking. Then the smelter was added, which didn't seem THAT complex, something I feel like with some time in redstone, I could make myself or just off this video.... Then the chickens came and it all went downhill from there
so we will make a ender dragon farm so we will need 20000000000 red stone repeaters
Mumbo: Don't make the outdoor path if you're struggling for resources.
Also Mumbo: Now for a nether portal.
Tbh a nether portal isn't that hard to get. As long as you find lava and make an infinite water source, you can place it in such a way that makes a nether portal shape without getting a diamond pickaxe. Then, you'd just need a flint and steel and you've got a nether portal. (It's even easier if you stumble across a village that has obsidian.)
As for the quartz, it's not that hard to find quartz in the nether & it should be a really quick trip to get all the quartz you need for the redstone in the starter house.
The hard part would actually be getting enough iron. Redstone shouldn't be a problem since you're going to end up using a lot less compared to iron.
For those complaining about the Redstone and hoppers for this base, those have mostly been added as little projects you can do to easily expand the base. IE: sure he uses Redstone and hoppers for fueling the furnaces, but until you get that set up you can just do that part manually. Same with the nether portal and chicken farm.
mumbo: this is old school redstone *laughs*
