I totally agree! In our gas guzzler, we stop every two to three hours, with at least a half hour rest coffee in and out stop….. sound very similar to your type of trip!

Bravo for taking breaks and not allowing yourselves to get over-tired! Driver fatigue is a serious risk on our highways, There was a terrible double-fatality accident in broad daylight in good weather at an I-75 rest area near Gainesville, FL last year. A Tesla slammed into the back of a parked trailer, killing both the driver and passenger. The final investigation showed neither Autopilot nor Full Self Driving were engaged; for unknown reasons the driver hit the accelerator instead of the brakes right before the crash. Fatigued driving is impaired driving! I hate seeing videos where drivers try to "cannonball" long road trips, no matter what vehicle they are driving.

I congratulate you on vocalizing your trip. Some keyboard warriors want to argue about everything. It is your trip, you are running it the way you like. The information helps me to understand another point of view, and see someone else in their battle of life.
It’s a road trip! If it isn’t fun, why do it?! I make a road trip to visit my elderly family. (Usually every other month). There is a method to my madness. Driving 825 miles in one day is a lot of time sitting. If I am tired, I can break it off at 10 hours, and split it into two days. So, how is the weather? How is the traffic? And since I am a retired bus driver, a road trip in an EV isn’t much different than a bus tour. We would generally stop every 2 hours anyway.
On my trips in my PHEV, I go 5 hours, take a one hour break, (325 miles) charge at ChargePoint (cost $1.85 for one hour, 5.85 kWh) eat at Denny’s and get 8 gallons of gas then go 5 more hours.
Now I am at 11 hours and 600 miles. I will either call it quits and plug into the L2 at the motel, or if I am in a good frame of mind, charge up again, eat again, and finish the last 225 miles. Finally, I will avoid driving into the sun, and not during the rush hour. No easterly travel during sunrise, or westerly at sunset. My trip is usually 4.05 miles per kWh and 46 mpg, costing around $2 for 12 kWh (half of them free) and 16 gallons at $4.39. Plus $17 for the food at Denny’s.
And while you are adding it all up, a plane fight is about an 8 hour trip door to door, and will cost at least twice as much, sometimes 2.5 more depending on load factors.

Nice job 👍. Love that you showed other EA, stops as most folks just use EA. Also it's nice seeing both of you working together on the videos.

That tree that showered on you I would have used it as a restroom to return the favor.

    Excellent video
I really enjoy all your videos on ev's, especially the bolt. I appreciate your time and efforts.
I agree with the way you road trip. I don't want to drive more than 1 1/2 to 2 hours in a vehicle without stopping. I'm also in no hurry either. To me being in a hurry makes doing most things not enjoyable.
I'm really glad you stopped at a Freewire because I've been curious about them. Thanks your videos are enjoyable and helpful.

Just bought a 2023 Bolt EUV and absolutely love driving it. Can't wait for the first road trip. Love the channel!

Great video as always. I have not taken my Bolt EUV on a lnog trip yet but I tried charging it at an Electrify America.charger and I was surprised how quickly it charged. After hearing all of the naysayers, I was expecting incredibly long charging times. One thing that people don't consider is that the Bolt is more efficient than most other EVs so while you do not get as many kW per minute of charging, you are getting more miles per kw. This does not totally make up for the slower charging rate but it helps and from what I have seen, a lot of faster charging EVs do not charge as they should because those EVs will only charge at that max rate for a very small part of the charging curve, not to mention a lot of faster chargers just do not work correctly.

As a Tesla and EUV owner, you can definitely can't go wrong with either car, unless obviously you like to travel for more than 400 miles on a trip. No one can be the Tesla charging infrastructure, especially now that they lowered the price on the model 3 standard range to 41,900.

Thanks for the Houston EV populous info. Glad the oil capital state is starting to adopt EV's. We're looking forward to your EV Charger video.

Love the road trips! I think that is perfectly acceptable amount of time. Regional travel appears to work fine in the Bolt. Just plan that stop and by the time you hit a bathroom, get some food, and get your charge it wouldn't be that bad. Granted normally I am a straight through nonstop type driver and don't stop for food etc, but I can see this would be an acceptable compromise for regional trips. I still don't think I would want to do a cross country long trips unless I was really planning it as part of an adventure of sorts.
I am a motorcyclist and when I am on my motorcycle I am the opposite of my car driving behavior. I stop frequently to give my backside a break and stretch my legs. I just don't normally do any road trips on the bike anymore.
Interesting the Freewire charger setup. Now if they would just put up some covered parking there that would be a great road trip stop right off the road, other services right there. Close enough so there is a plan b location close by. It is going to be nice once we get to the place where chargers are everyplace you would go for gas or in close proximity. I saw EVgo is delaying their deployment with the Pilot/Flying J into mostly 2024 installation now. That is a little disappointing. Once those travel centers are setup as charging locations it will make travel on the beaten path much easier. Just saw the article on the number of chargers that were installed in Q1 this year and the numbers looked terrible. Only Tesla appears to be hitting the ground running. I don't know what these other companies are doing. We are in year 2 of a a 5 year plan with the infrastructure bill that was passed and a goal to have 500,000 chargers on the ground by 2030. I don't see that happening unless these charging companies get off their backside and get busy. We know it isn't money that is holding them up. So this is a little baffling and irritating.

Walmart and 7-11 announced plans to build their own charging networks, so things may get better over the next 5 to 7 years. I live in a rural area; the nearest EA station is 25 miles from my home. But there are three Walmart stores within the same distance. Walmart said in their announcement that 90 percent of the U.S. population lives within 10 miles of one of their stores.

@@maryannrondinella5680 I also live in a rural area that is a EV desert and anything to get more chargers out here off the beaten path is essential for longer trips that aren't on the main travel corridors. It is one of the biggest roadblocks I see the will hold people up from giving EV's a try. I liked hearing on this video that they had options within a close proximity of each other. Right now even if you can find a charger out here it is the only one and the chances it isn't working is pretty high and they are all slower speed chargers. That really isn't a problem for the Bolt, but for most other EV's is a real problem. Fingers crossed we see more chargers show up sooner than later.

Just an outsider observation. Maybe getting showered by a tree while you are holding a 100kW DC dispenser is not good for longevity. Kinda like making toast while in the tub. Loved the vid. Thx 4 content
