The possibilities of the piano as an instrument were exhausted long ago, but the piano hasn't gone anywhere and is as popular as ever in songs, so I hopefully think this would apply for the guitar too. :)
I don't know If the possibilities on the piano have been exhausted really because with a piano one covers both bass and lead/ rhythm guitar parts so the possibilities on the piano are endless just fire that one thing to me.

Its already being used in rap, pop, indie, electronic, retro, just anything. Guitar and piano will always be the 2 most popular instruments to be tracked in the studio. Unless the sole essence of music changes completely, the guitar is here to stay.

Brad is a splitting image of an old Army buddy of mine that just recently passed away, same accent as well. However, Brad is the go to guy for the inter workings of an amp. He may not be a product suck up because he calls it the way it is. I'd rather spend a day hanging out with Brad before I considered hanging out with some gear reviewer that doesn't know jack about how the gear actually works. As for these other guys that think they are so relevant, sometimes being a part of the club isn't worth sacrificing your dignity.
a) Everything for the UA-camrs is paid, flight, hotel and food, so it doesn’t cost you anything. b) Phil was already invited and I absolutely do not want any drama at these events. You stir up shit, so I am sorry, but I can’t have that at an event where I pay for everyone to be there. c) point B is less relevant than the fact that the channels have to have a certain format. It has to be about gear reviews. You do editorial content, and that’s fine, but I build connections between brands and channels to work together and help them get their gear on UA-cam and establish a relationship that hopefully gets us paid. You channel simply has a different idea behind it and doesn’t fit that format. So when I am trying to build a community of all of us working together it doesn’t make sense for me to fork over more than two grand to fly you out here when you are not as relevant to the brands as some other channels and when you are not trying to be a friend to everyone in the community. You are doing a great job polarizing and that is part of your brand, but that also comes with side effects. If I am wrong about any of this, please let me know and let’s talk. Dragging this into a video without talking to me first about what actually was the reason for you it being invited doesn’t really help and you very much know that! I am here if you want to talk!
Kissing ass might help, but do you really want to completely change your format? I don’t think that would make a lot of sense... it’s working for you. The events are for gear demo and review channels. Maybe they will turn into something else and that would open up the possibility of you coming. But do you really want to be a part of this community? As a friend I mean?
The AARP bit was hilarious! I agree with you about discovering older used gear. Sometimes you can find an older piece of gear that sounds killer at a low price. Most of the newer gear that is good quality is a little expensive.
Samurai Guitarist is pretty cool I think. He sometimes does some really cool fingerstyle jazz arrangements of things. Pete is really good too though and that purple Tele is super sweet.

@@TheGuitologist Yep but the only place I've found it is at a Super Wal Mart. They are also selling Franken Berry as well. It's ridiculous that they only sell Count Chocula for a month out of the year.
@@TheGuitologist Oh dude I forgot to ask you how you feel about Maddon not getting renewed? Are you wanting Girardi or David Ross? I know the players love David Ross but I might want Girardi because we seriously need to renew the fundamentals of baseball and quit all this swinging for the fences nonsense that is infesting the game these days. The team has wildly underachieved at the plate and I think Girardi might bring a more fundamental approach.
I can't believe the lack of respect Chuck Berry gets lately; kids don't understand that he was the standard for playing guitar in the fifties and sixties. If you couldn't play JOHNNY B GOODE you weren't considered a lead guitarist. Chuck Berry was the first musician to write his own songs, sing them, and accompany himself on the electric guitar. THE FIRST. And he had lots of hits. I played with him at three concerts in the seventies, to thousands of people; he was a bit of a racist, but he was a great entertainer, and it was an honor to play with the real KING OF ROCK'N'ROLL. He was a bigger influence on rock guitar's development than any other guitarist. And Mark Agnesi is an asshole, but we all knew that already.
I built my bass guitar at the end of the fifties to get into 3 bands at once. Bass guitars were priced like cars. It never helped me score, either. But it worked other wonders.
Timothy Ryan I don’t think they were. I’ve seen Fender price lists front the 50s and the Precision Bass was about $20 more than a Telecaster and $30 less than a Hardtail Strat. I will admit that the Bassman Amp along with the Twin were Fender’s most expensive amps(They were the same price), and that I admit the amps, guitars, and bass were all a little pricey considering the average wage for the era. However, the original comment seems to make it out that basses were significantly more expensive and that is completely false. For what it’s worth, Fender’s prices in the 50s are compatible to the prices of the American Professional (formerly American Standard) product line today.
I've seen people that can shred and all that hundreds of notes per minute bollocks. But can you sit down and jam with them or can they write a constructive song? And for all the technical shit they play in bedroom land. HAVE THEY EVER got off their arses and gigged hundreds of times? Probably not. I'd rather be me who's been there and done that with my regular chords, than some wanna be who's still yet to step onto a stage.
I'm proud to be able to claim I have never owned a Gibson and doubt that I ever will. Gibson company and too many Gibson guitar owners have the same kind of ego Harley owners do. Not many Harley riders wave back when I am on my Honda Goldwing.
When I was a kid growing up in the 1970s guitar playing was a great big mystery. A kid bought a crappy cheap guitar and amp and set about demystifiying the instrument. No tutorial vids, no mentors everything was worked out on your own and I believe this led to kids developing their own own original styles. Now days there is so much stuff around any kid can make great learning progress in a very short space of time but I think it is at the cost of individual style and originality. Most of the rock n roll greats had to all work it out for themselves and ended up with their own unique thing from that. Music had been at the same crossroads in the 70s better technical skills led to long extended virtuoso soloing taking over from the 3 minute 4 to the floor stomper. Then the Ramones came along and stripped music back to its bare bones, punk rock became the demystification and every kid could get a tune out of a half strung tennis racket. Isnt that what makes the Blues so soothing, the simplicity. I say for forget virtuosity and concentrate on simplicity and feeling. As Voltaire said "Don't let perfection be the enemy of good"
After the commentary on geriatric guitarists, I wasn't sure at 18:30 if you said "Eureka" moment......or "urethra" moment. As one ages, the latter becomes more likely, especially as you're trying to sleep :) Naturally, as a youngster, I'm not speaking from experience.
I have a 2204 JCM 800 that was beautifully modded but about twice a year it decides to red-plate. If I catch it in time I can shut it off and stave off any problems. If I don't catch it in time it blows a fuse. I play this amp almost every weekend and I can't imagine what would cause this problem to happen so infrequently. This has been going on for about 5 years. Also I have no idea what the right fuse values I should be using. Any Ideas?
We lost Neal Casal recently and we already lost Jerry which I will never totally recover from. I am just happy I got to see some of these people while they were around such as Miles, Gregg Allman, Jerry Garcia, Frank Zappa, most of the Ramones, etc.....
Jesse Mc Reynolds is still with us at 90yo , but he's about the last of the founding generation still occasionally playing . But more importantly , at the grassroots amateur level traditional bluegrass and traditional country are probably within a decade of loosing critical mass to exist as living genres . At local bluegrass jams , the average age of players is late 70's , with more than a few playing in their 90's . People under 65 get teased for their youth , and other than my daughter , I can't think of any local players younger than 49yo . Traditional Country local bar bands can for the moment have decent attendance . But out of 200-ish person turnouts , only 7 or 8 people under 70yo .
@@filianablanxart8305 I agree. I think bluegrass will unfortunately go the way of modern country where it morphs into some sort of pop banjo music. Mr. Monroe said as much the first time he saw Michael T. Coleman and his Fender bass playing with Doc. Maybe an overreaction on his part, but I for one don't want to live in a world without traditional bluegrass.
There are 10 year old girls who can shred better than most players in the sixties.It's amazing, and yet disheartening knowing there are kids who can already do more, technically, than I ever could or ever will. Damn kids ruin everything for us old guys. {that last line was not intended to be taken seriously, I respect the hell out of all you kids.}
i have seen a situation where the second filter cap opens up and a working amp will suddenly stop making noise. once with a 1955 projector amp that i converted to guitar that the filter caps worked but made a bit of hum but the amp worked for a years after i extracted it from the projector. one day i turned it on and got nothing. i was getting high voltage to the plates of the power tubes but nothing on screens or preamp tube plates. swapped filter caps and it was perfect, same thing on a 1948 stromberg carlson amp/radio. i bought it, was getting nothing out and when checking voltages got high voltage only on power tube lates but nothing beyond. it was the second filter cap opened or shorted and no other b+ was anywhere but powert tube plates, again changing filter caps fixed it . so check the filter caps. and change them if they are original regardless.

I know what you mean about the "technically amazing" players you see these days. Thing is, I've tried to play with many "technically" great players. BUT too often, they cant perform. They've spent too much time playing alone or to videos etc... I'll say "Damn you're awesome dude! Let's get together and rock"! Then l get em together with the rest of the guys and they're totally lost! I mean LOST!!! Sometimes it's not necessarily how well you can play, but how you can play what you can't play well.
It's how well you play with others that counts. Music should be enjoyed with others for sure. That's the problem with music today. Computer tracking and sampling can kill a groove that a 3 piece rythym section can produce live.
From Leo: Gibson has been and continues to be a horribly run company. Agnesi is out of his league and would have never even been hired if gibson had competent leadership. When the reaction and opinion of the customer base is considered "fake news" , the company has completely lost its way and any hope for survival.
I was blindsided finding out about Kim Shattuck’s death from ALS. She was a fantastic vocalist & guitarist. I’m so thankful I saw The Muffs back in 2016.

Pete Is and has been my hero from the day I listened to "Substitue" 15 years ago...I think he's a musical genius but I would add to his thought. Yes, ultimately new styles and instrument have to come to fashion but they'll get old too and I just think it's all cyclical. People will be so removed from 60s rock style or 70s, that they'll come to fashion again.
You know what Brad, I honestly don't see any conflict or the point that EytschPi42 is making! First of all I get the fact that he's saying that what you do, your channels format etc doesn't fit within "His Events" parameters. Well...Strictly being impartial: I'm calling him out for bullshit! In fact, it sounds more like a personal grudge than a professional one. I've been on both sides of the musical fence for 50 years now..from playing in shitty clubs, pit orchestras doing musicals all the way to starting out from school as an engineering trainee for RCA records. Needless to say I've been around the block more than a few times and paid my dues. That being said I see nothing wrong, if fact it would be a plus, to have a knowledgeable guy, like yourself at this event. What I'm seeing here is that it's all about the money and not to benefit the musicians. Since you're a tech, a musician, and have an extensive expertise in the way things and I mean everything related to music works..You'd be an asset to his gig and, you know what, this guy doesn't deserve you. I've watched many of your video's and being a tech myself can see you know what you're doing. In other words...You couldn't BS me and I would know straight away if you tried! Well...Before I keep going and bore you to death getting to the point...Putting myself in your place, I'd tell this petty moron to just F**K off! I don't go to places where I'm not wanted! I think his comment to you was hateful, spiteful, and when he mentioned "OMG! Look what you'e going to cost me!" I had him pegged immediately. The guy is acting like a jerk and obviously , to him, it's all about the money. He admits it and shamelessly , I might add. You really don't have to take this kind of S**T from someone like this. Take a pass on this event and just chalk it up to one of those things that you really wouldn't enjoy anyway. If it's any consolation I think what you're doing is interesting and informative and like your channels a lot. Don't let some " Hands up Mr. 10%" Know it all get you down. Some people are just impossible to get along with and you can't get everyone to like you. You're good at what you do and some petty money grubbing ass can't take that away from you. -LRF Yeh..."Let's Talk" Don't hold your breath Mark Agnesi!

You're looking at the Casio PG380, a guitar built by Ibanez for Casio back in the late 80's, with a synth and MIDI interface built into the guitar. I've got one, and it's been my main ax for decades. Great sounding strat. Good luck finding the electronics for one, a parts guitar will most likely be your best bet. One thing that these do have issues with is the caps are of poor quality and have to be replaced before long, or the sound and MIDI go to hell on you. But they are pretty easy to replace, even though they are SMT. Big enough to get the electrolytics out and replace. I was always surprised that this guitar never caught on that well, it is a total blast to play synth sounds either alone or with guitar mixed in, and bending notes on vibes or flute is fun. The tracking was good enough on this that in pitch follow mode, it would follow your vibrato pretty well. Watch out on chords, that way, though. Keyboard mode is for that. Love that guitar.
I have a Yamaha THR 10X thats about 6 months old and it suddenly has an issue with the volume and gain, way low compared to what it used to be. However if I press one of the presets I have saved its loud and full again. However if I try to adjust the preset tone at all its like all of the power and fullness just falls away or something like that. Thats the best way to describe it. Any Ideas? Your the only one I can think of that I could think of to ask.

I don't really agree with Townsend. I never thought it was about guitar acrobatics, in fact I don't even like that. For me it was about the music as a whole. I also doubt that guitar based rock will die with the artists. It won't be prominent for sure - already isn't. Heck, I just saw a Gretta Van Fleet concert with my 2 younger teens. I couldn't believe the mix of the crowd and talk about good old school rock!
So you don't het along with low rent Dr. Evil? Screw em Brad. I'm sure the two of you would be fine in the same room. He doesn't seem to be a dude with any balls and would avoid the subject. But you're right, why fly thousands of miles to try out gear? That's not what this channel is even really about. Keep being YOU Brad. Great video, as always
In certain rare cases, if you got a girl because you played guitar and it actually wound up being more serious than you ever thought possible, she would also probably leave you because you played the guitar.........lol
Traynor amps all day long. The vintage ones are absolutely untouchable, and the new ones are very well built and sound great as well. For the price they are definitely the diamond in the rough. I own several Traynor amps from different eras of the company's long exsistance. Well built, great tone, and still made in Canada that have been around since the 60's.
Thank you for turning me on to Uncle Doug.. Did you build his tube amp? Getting into DSP and modular and frequency and harmonic design (hoby) you handled the gain question smoothly...

I'm a UPS man and I delivered to a pawn shop the other day where this dude had a 1976 Fender Vibro Champ amp that he told me he'd take $600 for. It looks almost like a mini amp. Does anyone know anything about these amps and if they're any kind of desirable? It looks like it might even just be like a little 10in speaker or something and I know that some "Champs" are considered desirable but I didn't know if that specific one was.

Its really amazing to learn so much off you all
Brad is a splitting image of an old Army buddy of mine that just recently passed away, same accent as well.
My favorite You Tube channel. Always look forward to SPF, especially on non pay week Fridays. ;)
a) Everything for the UA-camrs is paid, flight, hotel and food, so it doesn’t cost you anything.
b) Phil was already invited and I absolutely do not want any drama at these events.
Well if someone had told me the flight was free, I would have started kissing ass much earlier. How am I doing? :)
The Guitologist 😂😂😂😂😂 that’s the jest that I got from that diatribe also.
"warrior... struggling... to remain... relevant"
I’m friends with everyone. I’m actually a very nice guy in person...like Bret “The Hitman” Hart, except shorter...and with less muscle mass.
The AARP bit was hilarious! I agree with you about discovering older used gear. Sometimes you can find an older piece of gear that sounds killer at a low price. Most of the newer gear that is good quality is a little expensive.
Following up on Brad’s commentary: Best or favorite of the UA-cam players. My vote to Danish Pete.
his funk stuff demo ing the new Katana was pretty sharp
Andy Martin gets my vote
The other guy from reverb with the black hair gets mine
Pete's great, but Rabea gets my vote. i love the way he nails every note on "sounds like" and then is super humble about it.
Samurai Guitarist is pretty cool I think. He sometimes does some really cool fingerstyle jazz arrangements of things. Pete is really good too though and that purple Tele is super sweet.
Watching your videos is like having a one way conversation with my late friend Jono😎...check out his music on YT...Jon Ashley and the Little Triggers...my favorite song of his is North Kentucky...i really enjoy just listening to you rant on about shit...brings back some really good memories of him.
Don't know why, but I'm sure Keith Richards will live to 109.
It's my contention that Keith has been dad since about 1967, but he's SO high that he hasn't bothered to lie down and quit, yet. I could be wrong, but I don't think so.
Actually, that is when he may retire.
Dude I hate to break it to you but I'm pretty sure Keith was 109 in 1987. I may be a little off but I'm pretty close.
nope.. he`ll go at 96 along with the tears
Keith Richards is a 109!

@@TheGuitologist , Some of my 1970s rock heroes are still living, and playing/touring. If your 1990s rock heroes are all dead, what does that say about your choice of heroes ??

@@Biggus_Mickus I say Darrell Abbott is probably the only reason anyone younger than 30 has ever even heard a guitar solo or cares what that is
I'm probably cutting my own throat here but I noticed a Count Chocula figure in the background and I just wanted to let you know that in the last couple of weeks I've consumed like 5 Family Size boxes of it since it's seasonal and I've been going on adventures trying to find it. LOL! It's seriously selling like crazy dude! I finally found some Boo Berry too but didn't get any yet. It is also a really awesome cereal but Count Chocula reigns supreme over all.
DuckTalesWooHoo1987 did they have Booberry?
This is way more entertaining than watching some half assed guitarist circle jerk gear companies.
I built my bass guitar at the end of the fifties to get into 3 bands at once. Bass guitars were priced like cars. It never helped me score, either. But it worked other wonders.
Why were Basses so expensive in the 50's? I guess Electric Basses were brand new teknology
Tony Duncan I sold a guitar an got a hooker. Money well spent. God I miss that hooker

Any Ideas?

as a bluegrass fan i have see all the first generation of legends pass on
Jesse Mc Reynolds is still with us at 90yo , but he's about the last of the founding generation still occasionally playing .
There are 10 year old girls who can shred better than most players in the sixties. It's amazing, and yet disheartening knowing there are kids who can already do more, technically, than I ever could or ever will. Damn kids ruin everything for us old guys.
{that last line was not intended to be taken seriously, I respect the hell out of all you kids.}

Ask an amp tec, my favorite segment. And a very informative one too.
i have seen a situation where the second filter cap opens up and a working amp will suddenly stop making noise. once with a 1955 projector amp that i converted to guitar that the filter caps worked but made a bit of hum but the amp worked for a years after i extracted it from the projector. one day i turned it on and got nothing. i was getting high voltage to the plates of the power tubes but nothing on screens or preamp tube plates. swapped filter caps and it was perfect, same thing on a 1948 stromberg carlson amp/radio. i bought it, was getting nothing out and when checking voltages got high voltage only on power tube lates but nothing beyond. it was the second filter cap opened or shorted and no other b+ was anywhere but powert tube plates, again changing filter caps fixed it . so check the filter caps. and change them if they are original regardless.

They spent too much time trying to become a great guitarist but never bothered to be a musician.
It's how well you play with others that counts. Music should be enjoyed with others for sure. That's the problem with music today. Computer tracking and sampling can kill a groove that a 3 piece rythym section can produce live.
Great Segment Brad thanks
From Leo: Gibson has been and continues to be a horribly run company. Agnesi is out of his league and would have never even been hired if gibson had competent leadership. You know what Brad, I honestly don't see any conflict or the point that EytschPi42
is making!

It looks like it might even just be like a little 10in speaker or something and I know that some "Champs" are considered desirable but I didn't know if that specific one was.
