- 80 years ago to this day, on June 29th,1939, MGM Promoted "The Wizard of Oz" on the Radio program "Good News" the audio still exists, I made this video with Visuals Of the film with movie clips, production photos and 16mm archival home movies. The first part is a montage of behind the scenes radio skits of Judy Garland getting the role of Dorothy and learning the Song "Over the Rainbow" the second Half is of the principle cast members singing their songs from the Film. Judy singing over the rainbow, ray Bolger singing if I only had a brain, and Bert Lahr singing if I only had the nerve. Along with a radio rendition of munchkin melody Ding Dong The Witch is dead and Merry Old Land of Oz. I hope you enjoy this, have a cup of hot or iced coffee and enjoy!
So amazing hearing the two Scarecrows chatting! Their dialogue was scripted, but you can hear how awed Bolger is to be talking to his idol! Sadly, this recording has edited out Stone's trademark Scarecrow laugh!
Amazing footage timeless classic
I own the 1939 radio broadcast both cassette tape and CD! Thank you for posting and sharing this in sync with actual footage from the movie and the wonderful still photo of the cast members and visitors! and producer Mervyn Leroy, Songwriters Harold Arlen and, E.Y. Harburg, Fanny Brice, and H. Stafford who portrays baby Snook's father and Fred Stone!
All cast and people b glad we still watch this classic
True. The negative was stored in a hothouse for years before going to the Eastman House.
I love this! Thank you for posting and sharing this!
We’re off to see the wizard
This is so cool how you were able to get this footage 😮
Thanks!!!!!
I’m so amazed
Sad fact:Judy garland went through so much pain and abuse by the directors and was called pig :(
And the lion wore real lion
Tin man’s makeup was staying on for a year and he got sick
SCARECROW LOOKS SO MUCH PAIN HE HAS A FRICKIN BAG ON HIS HEAD AND A ROPE OVER HIS NECK AND HAD A POLE UP HIS BACK (from when Judy met him)
Not at all a fact. Judy had an amazing time. You're confusing her later career with her early career. Neither Victor Fleming nor King Vidor put her through any kind of abuse, nor did anyone call her a pig.
Bert Lahr did not wear a real lion; that would have been a stupid and dangerous thing to do. He wore a lion costume made of lion skin and fur.
Buddy Ebsen, the first actor cast as the Tin Woodman, had a bronchial condition that was aggravated by the aluminum powder in his make-up. He was in hospital for two weeks and spent a month at home recovering. Jack Haley did much better with a reformulated make-up. It did not stay on his skin after the last time he washed it off, certainly not for a year.
Ray Bolger was in no pain. It was the Scarecrow, not Ray, who had a pole up his back. Ray was suspended on a wire, which made it look like he was hanging on the pole.
Who’s Bob young
Robert Young! The lad himself! "Father Knows Best!" "Marcus Welby, M.D.!"
