- A private guided tour of the Hangar Thirteen B-17 Restoration Project and information on the progress & parts. I donated one of my B-17 paintings for the group to auction towards their project and they invited me to check out their hangar.
Keep em flying. All flight is inherently dangerous. Thank goodness there are people still brave enough to restore and fly them. What an invaluable teaching opportunity to educate the younger generations.
My grandma installed b-17 radios in WWII
U should keep us updated on this project if possible
I will do my best. I am thinking of going to their gathering/meetup next month in South Carolina. I donated one of my paintings so they can auction it off towards the project
Awesome Brother.😎
incredible amount of love and dedication is poured into this project. Thanks for the update !
I have asked them to pop in the hangar again for an update video but I am also moving out of the area in the winter and it will depend on what progress they will have to show
This is the only way that we are going to have warbirds such as this in the air in a very few years from now. Passionate stuff to watch, and great to see those fantastically skilled airframe fitters put back to work and probably on the absolute minimum wage, or possibly for free? Pure and unadulterated culture.
Awesome job so far, according to what was shown. But a huge amount of job ahead as well, so I wish the whole working team all the best.
Fantastic review and impressive attention to detail. Thank you for sharing!
Probably looking at another 10 years before this would be airworthy, nice project though.
It is very expensive 😔
Massenmord-Maschine
True. Without mass killings and wars history books would be much thinner. There is also an apolitical engineering side to the story, and that's what I'm intrigued by. That counts for all sides.
was this the old "Bomber Gas Station" plane
Nope, lacey lady is the gas station bomber.
is this the one in urbana ohio?
No, the one in Urbana is much further along. This one is in Asheville NC
@@artbygilik ok thanks!
@@thurin84 Sure thing :) I have a video on here of their B-17 Champaign Gal and a tour of the Urbana air museum
@@artbygilik cool!
What is the ID of this aircraft?
I'm not exactly sure, but there is more information on their website: hangarthirteen.org/about-hangar-thirteen/aircraft/
Everything should be epoxy primed. No longer authentic but preserved
The team is doing best they can with the resources they have. They all volunteer their time on this project and seem knowledgeable to me
As much as it pains me, time to ground all of the B17s while there is one left. Look up the percentage of wartime B17 losses because of simple mechanical failure alone. Two have been lost in the last three years alone, and another previously crashed on Illinois. Sooner or later, fate will catch up to all of them.
I know 🙁 I worked with 4 flying B-17's so far for our photography business, one of them (Liberty Belle) crashed the same year we've photographed it. This crew is very dedicated to doing an accurate restoration project.
