Hey Matt, just to let you know. I had just a Senator razor but I was able to score another Senator razor on EBay the other day but it has the ever rare box with it. A great find. Only Senator box that I’ve ever seen in my 20 years of collecting. Thanks for the videos.
Interesting, I never put 2 and 2 together. Not only does the butterfly razor make it something new so people wanted to buy it there is the idea if it is easier to change blades then people are more likely to change them more often and that leads to an increase in blades sales. Ingenious.
Never seen a Senator box in the flesh! love my Sheraton in the "tiger-leather" "coffin" case though, the rivet is tight and she shaves like my '37 Aristocrat!
I got a Senator a couple years ago, great shaver and a nice addition to my collection. Was it just a coincidence that Gillette released the senator 2 years after Guy Gillette was elected as a U.S.Senator from Iowa? i also loved the little play on words..Sheraton, remove the H and transpose the R and N and voila! Senator.
Great Video, Once Again, My Brother!!! This IS 'Higher Education' in My World!!! My Razor History I.Q. is inceasing Exponetiially thank to You and these Videos!!!
Hi Matt! Thank you for continuing this highly educational series. If I found a NOS/NIB Senator the statement "It belongs in a museum" would be more of "It belongs in my razor rotation!". I know, I just destroyed its value...but Gillette built them to shave with, so they could sell more blades! Keep up the good work.
So, that was the last year, huh? Interesting... it seems that a modern age manufacturer might have something to shoot for (I'm looking at your Parker). Do you think Gillette went away from the TTO Open Comb because the guard is not as durable (and, thus, they couldn't sell as many blades)?
The only thing that detracts me as a collector would be be how much the corporation would release the "Franken-Raxor" - releasing the next year's model with some leftover parts of the last year. Are they more or less collectible?
Beautiful Razor, it’s a shame Gillette went with multiple blade and plastic garbage they make today when the original idea of wet shaving then was perfect. The T-shirt is 👍🏻
I agree with you on the names Matt. Short of “Dictator”, they used every other possible head of state’s name.
I have a 1938 Senator plated in rhodium and the doors open perfectly!!! 💈😁👍🏻💈
i love the history of vintage shaving!
Another great video Matt!
Love mine! You and your team did an amazing job making it perfect again! Thanks

Thank you for giving great information about all Razors that you introduce wonderful historical facts
I want to get a 1939 razor to commemorate my grandmother. Which would you suggest, a TTO or Tech?
TTO of course!

Another great video 👍🏻 I’ve never seen the complete Senator with box/blades set before, so what a treat! Thanks!

Woah, I was just thinking, “I wonder why they called it the Senator…” when you launched into your explanation! Freaky. 😂
