On our 292 tonne ocean going tug we just hove to and kept head to sea for 4 days. Wish I'd had a video camera then. Westerly 10 Bay of Biscay. Good video, thanks for posting
Most ships are equipped with software which provides daily updates on weather forecasts for large area's of ocean. If you don't have this software, there also are less detailed weather forecasts available via compulsory equipment. A good captain knows how to avoid storms, but sometimes the monster is just too big or you loose too much time to evade it.
Simply awesome. Talk about shipping green seas. Videos like this make me wish the next 3 years at Texas Maritime Academy would go by faster. Was there any damage to the ship? some of those waves really pounded the anchor windlass.
I wish you could post one with only the sound of the sound of the ocean man. We don't have ocean noise where we live. LOL! I still believe this should win the roughest sea award. Incredible! How high were the seas that day?
At least he's at the back where you don't feel it as much. Up forward is where it really get's bad. Those are some of the heaviest conditions I've seen.
Don’t know how you guys did it, I did some floats on LSTs in bad weather but nothing like this. We had Bulldozers get underway in the holds once. I bet we would have just broken in half in this stuff. Once the weather hit I was so sick I just tied in and wanted to die. Navy guys would just laugh and say bad things to me, well until the weather cleared anyway.
I don't believe this is a storm 10. I was on a K-2 freighter in mid-Atlantic when we entered the heart of a hurricane and encountered 70 foot waves that at one point held the bow and stern with an air gap underneath amidship, then plunged to bury the bow and stern under waves in the next instant and finally climb up the 70 foot wave wall at a steep angle. That was a storm-9. I believe your video is a storm 6-7.
I felt much safer on a tanker. They have 24 tanks, if the bow gets stove in or a plate falls off you've still got another 23 watertight tanks to keep you on top of the deep blue!
Original video exists on www.youtube.com/watch?v=BX3kFC... have a look at the freak wave at 4:25, this was a very bad storm but not unusual for a winter trip in Biscay.
I love the music, it fits the video perfectly. And you sailors are braver men than I
Great improvement over previous video, both picture and musical selection.
Great! Nice view.. and this space, clouds, colours...
Oh man, watch the length of the ship flex, as well as the bow...whoa. Sailors are definitely some of the bravest men on Earth.
all i can say is massive respect to the bridge and all on board, you gotta hold your nerve in that and that is no easy task
Love the video, i've always been amazed by the atlantic, i've crossed it a few times by plane, but never on a ship. Amazing!!

Perfectly fitting use for Prokofiev's "Dance of the Knights"

Great video huge waves!
very good video !!! greetings from greece!
wow, gave me the goosebumps
Not even a Force-10 storm can stop the Market to make speculations ! I'm pleased

Dance of the Knights, Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev, excellent choice of music
I bet the Second Officer has his hands full keeping an eye on the cargo in this weather.
those window wipers are cute
@HumanTill she's 138m long and was not long ago in thick ice, and now in for repairs to the engine :D
Dang man! Think about the forces being applied on that hull!
Fantastic Video amazing
wow it is amazing
I find myself rolling back and forth in my chair. lol
i was merchant marine. i remember those days
So hypnotic

all day to look at it
Music:
Sergei Prokofiev - "Dance of the Knights" from "Romeo and Julliet, Suite no. 2, Op. 6B" (1935)
curious if you know the actual height of foremast towards the front of ship. That might help to approximate wave height.
how long do these storms last/how long does it take to boat through them?
Jack Sparrow: It's a fine goal, to be sure. But it seems to me... that a ship like that one, makes this one here seem a bit superfluous, really.
i see you improved the music too
Hay greenhorn. Go check the anchor!!!
this is impressive
That's damn scary... (what's the music?)
Like that its in HD but I'd rather hear actual sounds of the storm and crashing vs music.
@rtuinstra they play poker clean and do maintenence :) And in this video hold on to something for a couple of hours
Hypnotic clip.
If I heard orchestral music start to play in high sea's I'd realise I'm about to die.
I've seen Titanic.
If it's like that up top wonder what it's like in the engine room, or in the forward bow....
Awesome...my God...
wow, I need that song at the beginning for my media project, anyone know what its called?
planes can avoid stormy areas. how about large ships like this? they just brace for the storm without any attempt to escape, i guess?
Man I would love to be in there.
I liked the part with a storm.
now imagine ships that were made in 16th century in these waves xD
@partybiscuit The titanic wasn't in a storm;) The reason why it suck is because of a iceberg, one they could avoid...
Prokofiev forever! Im very proud to be his compatriot=)
lotta water in that bathtub.. damn.

Anyone knows the name off this song?
Now with less green!
What's the name of the song?
How the heck can you sleep when not on-watch?
nice storm

yep.
Well the captain asked me to go for the bow of the ship to get some paint xD
If only there was an orchestral crew outside on the deck
MONSTER at 1:50

Your captain must have balls of steel
so how "normal" is this for seaworkers? will everybody be "oh shit" or is this just one of these bad "days"?
This is what happens to the sea when Chuck Norris flushes his toilet.
@partybiscuit Dont worry
pretty normal day at sea this
I'd be fun to get blazed then ride in the wheel house listening to pink floyd
Much better music :-)
Would have been better with original audio!
Upload without music please?? :)
@simondoghkbigass2001
The Montagues and The Capulets from Prokoviev's Romeo & Juliet
