This game was so excellent! Amazing sound effects, it sounded like it had echo on it! And the graphics were so much on point plus the gameplay was fluid! Konami sure knew how to make amazing games!
This was the 2nd hardest Gameboy game for me in my collection. The big issue was the confusing layout, required items/objectives, and respawning enemies meant you ran around getting whacked as you tried to figure out where to go. What's worse, this was in the days before the Internet, and I lacked the Nintendo Power issue to assist me. The hardest game by far though was Double Dragon III. That game was so bad and difficult. Huge disappointment over the prior two Double Dragon's.
It's a damn shame they didn't put difficulty levels in this game like they did on its predecessor, Back from the Sewers. Difficulty levels really help me master a game. On Back from the Sewers, I started off on Easy which took me a while to beat because honestly, it's a pretty difficult game. Then I tried Normal & I finally just beat that the other day. Now I'm on Hard & I haven't beaten it yet but have made it to the last level. Even beating it on Normal was quite an accomplishment for me so if I can beat it on Hard, I will be so proud of myself.
not "final boss" but "the last password we the developers will give you as this last gauntlet is our expression of *hate* for you. good luck, as we don't even give you a full restore pizza. so if you want any chance whatsoever, backtrack through some lasers for the pizza, and marathon the previous bosses, plus the two final forms. good luck asshole. "
This was always one of my favorite Ninja Turtles game for Game Boy. Loved the Metroid elements where you have the open world map and you gained new powers (on here, in the form of rescuing your comrades). All-in-all, great video.
Played this whren I was a kid. When I finally defeated Shredder's initial bar of hit points. I was like "wow finally beat this game!". But after Shredder recharge his health to full again...I was like "Damn!!!"
this was epic! I'm so happy I was able to find a walkthrough for this game, for me literally this was the hardest game I had ever played, I always got lost in the mazes and maybe saved one turtle and beat 2 bosses maximum xD
Contrary to the previous TMNT game boy games, this one is very good. It's not as "deep" as a Metroid but it's really impressive for its time, especially for a licensed game. Good gameplay, good musics, interesting boss battles, good level design. Not really easy, not really hard. Very balanced challenge (except the very end, which is a bit punitive but rewarding anyway) Also, it's a shame that Michelangelo is not credited before Leonardo at the end, he is the main character of this game after all.
the very end sours this game for me. it's like, the worst example of a boss rush i have ever seen. all the previous bosses, plus the final boss which has two lifebars. waste your full pizza ANYWHERE but shredders second life bar, then you pretty much lost. oh and the password is insulting. not only does it start you at the beginning of this gauntlet, if you want to stand any level of chance, you have to backtrack through lasers just to get a full pizza. but make sure you don't get hit *at all* on the way back. i dare you to try to get through this hell without the extra life pizza. then call it rewarding when all you get is a standard ending.
So Leonardo in Blue can drill to get underground, Donatello in Purple can climb walls to reach elevated places, Michelangelo in Orange can fly and float over pits, and Raphael in Red can slide under tight spaces.
Donnie also had a separate set of climbing claws he kept on him, which he used often in the movies. I'm not sure if he did in the comics. That's probably why his ability and Raph's are the way they are in the game.
This is the version I had on Gameboy. I still have the Nintendo Power issue with the map and the order of the rooms to go to. It's the Ninja Turtles version of Metroid. A very good classic game with great graphics and music.
Probably *THE FIRST METROIDVANIA made by Konami* - and made by a lot of the same people that made Castlevania Sotn. Even better than Metroid 2 and any Castlevania on the Gameboy, ironically.
+Cristiano don't forget Simon's Quest was released in 1987. Vampire Killer, released for the MSX one year before, has arguably plenty of metroidvania elements also.
+World of Longplays (cubex55) Well the term Metroidvania wasn't until the Castlevania exploration games since it used a similar map system to Metroid. Hence the vania in Metroidvania. And this game was released between Metroid and SOTN.
@@Nordischsound metroid 2 has a somw clunky controls and a slow progression and not having a map makes it even worse and don't forget crap mini bosses. Samus returns thankfully corrects everything wrong with the original.
This show was so big in the early 90s that every kid of that time remembers the names of the main characters. For how many shows of your childhood can you do that? Some will say Batman and superman or X men, but those were reinforced with mentions from a gazillion other platforms of the franchise.
I got this game in JP version back in 2002, still managed to beat the game just 100% figuring things out. No walkthroughs, guides, even the demo only plays the first map- good old days.
It's nice watching back all the playthrough of different childhood games. I'm wondering if any of you had sweaty palms and hearts kept beating quickly while playing GB/other game consoles?
this was way too hard for me as a kid. the metroid style level alone broke my brain. and this prisoner cat killed me a thousand times. only way to see the other turtles for me was to brutforce passwords.
Fall of the foot clan is the first. Then Back from the Sewers. And then Radical Rescue. I just played through the first two. Want to play this one next once I find it for a good price.
Just finished this on the Cowabunga Collection and it really was the best TMNT gameboy game. Plus the updated map with icons was much more helpful than just “dots” in the original release. My only gripe was I wish April was the 2nd to last person to be rescued instead of Splinter. Wouldn’t it have made more sense to have Shredder(Cyber or not) keep a closer eye on his rival, Hamato Yoshi?
Well in a sense you could say Don used a suction cup device to climb up the walls. Also in the 1987 TMNT show Raphael didn't really like to fight so it would make sense he cramped up in his shell.
Ah, yes. It's Teenage Metroid Ninja Turtles. There's a tiny little piece of me that believes there's an alternate universe out there where Castlevania: Symphony of the Night doesn't exist simply because this game wasn't made. There's technically no tie other than TMNT3's director produced for the C:SotN Saturn port, which means nothing. But I'm allowed my crackpot conspiracy theories!
I had to look it up and apparently "buttle" is a real word that means "to serve as a butler". Probably why their spell check didn't catch it (see @36:26). Gave me a nice random chuckle, love these old game translation errors.
I heard one of the reasons why Michelangelo is the first turtle you use to rescue the others is because there wasn't a 4th version of Tournament fighters so Mikey didn't get to have a cover of his own. So to make it up to Mikey's fans, this is basically his game where he rescues everyone.
“chook chook chook” Mikey was the turtle for the job. I remember an urban legend of there being a possibilty of unlocking playable “Mustard Sphincter. I had spent so much time on this game, yet now it looks soo damn easy.
