  • In 2013, the TomKat Center launched the Innovation Transfer Program (ITP) to help Stanford University faculty, staff, and students turn innovations in sustainability into commercial products. Since then, over $6 million has been awarded to more than 100 teams, mostly students, to determine the commercial viability of their proposed products and services.
To mark the ITP’s 10-year anniversary, Aanindeeta Banerjee (Stanford PhD ’18) and Chemistry Professor Matthew Kanan explain how a 2019 TomKat Innovation Transfer grant helped jumpstart their company, ReSource Chemical, which is producing high-performance plastics made from truly sustainable feedstocks: carbon dioxide and inedible biomass, such as wood pulp.
