Wilkinson 1912 1000cc

- Don reviews the extraordinary 1000cc Wilkinson motorcycle. Built by the company famed for producing razors, in the early 1900's they built luxury motorcycles. They produced about 200 machines before the out break of the 1st World War which stopped production - this example is number 160.
It has a top speed of 60mph and some of its features include a 4 cylinder motor (rare for this period), water cooling with the addition of a cooling fan and an unusual hand-start mechanism, slightly precarious for shorter riders.
Don's only word of caution is that because of its comfortable upholstered bucket seat, there's a danger of dropping off to sleep

Don has a fine, humorous and gentlemanly way about him. That has become a rare virtue nowadays.
And the engine fits him beautifully-of course!.

@@justice7788 : who asked you to voice you shitty little opinion ?
No words. A masterpiece of engineering. Compliments from Italy. Thank you for sharing.
Thank you very much!
Goodness what a machine piece of art. Never seen a Wilkinson before and she is a beauty.
One of the most interesting bikes featured on UA-cam. The "handle" starter was a hoot.
Way ahead of its time. All the bells and whistles. Thanks for posting.
Saw one of these at the National Motorcycle Museum outside of Coventry in 1989 when in the UK...its one of the bikes that really sticks out from that museum visit.
Fabulous machine, handcrafted like they were in the old days, not mass produced. Very impressed that it will do 60mph too. More videos like this please !
wow fan assisted liquid cooling system in those early days!!
Been into bikes since 1957, even in the profession for 15 or so years and this oldie is one that makes me sit up and take notice ! Awesome, especially for the time. The starting system could be a little nasty on the back, but with low compression maybe not so bad.
You could thump yourself in the crutch
One of the most amazing motorcycles I've ever seen.
First I’ve seen this machine and I am absolutely in love with it. A modern version (reliable without compromising aesthetics) would be sooo sweet. 🤓
Beautiful bike . quite ahead of its time
Looks like engineering art, beautiful machine.
What a beauty -- and, amazingly advanced features for the day! Thanks so much for posting.
A really beautiful bike. I liked the presentation of this gentleman machine by this very british gentleman.
Wow! That is amazing for a motorcycle built the same year my Father was born and the Titanic unfortunately sunk. I had a 1959 Ariel Square 4 with the same displacement as the bike you tested only it’s almost 50 years between the two of them. Pretty substantial when you think about it.👍👍
I wonder where this man went, he's a great narrator and great at describing these motorcycles...
He’s a very good narrator or was 🤷🏻♂️
Beautiful ride old timer I'd be proud to ride that machine.
Thank you, I can certainly appreciate this engineering. Two wheel fun since 1971!
What a great presentation.
Nice motorcycle.Thank you sir.
That Wilkinson is cool. You really have a fine sense of humour, too.
narrator is top notch!
What a wonderful motorcycle !
Lovely bike and the last comment had me in stitches ....danger of dropping off to sleep well done sir.
Absolutely marvellous machine. Thank you for sharing it with us.
I might be a millennial , but i do get enthusiastic for these ancient machines!
It helps to keep an open mind, something millennials often tell their elders without realizing they have often heard whatever the latest fade is thrice over...
Spread your enthusiasm to your fellow Millennials, so that there is cultural continuity. ...Motoring culture helps people develop engineering expertise and style!
What a wonderful old lady. Thanks for sharing.
What a beautiful machine l would love to ride one awesome thank you
I am from the Teutonic side of the channel... 😊, but this is truly a jewel of a motorcycle, and made in, then Britain! In many little ways very advanced for its days, 4 cylinders, water-cooled (but where's the valve-radio😊)! Very pretty! Would love to have one!
Thank you so much for sharing...
Many thanks for this video. Amazing motorcycle. Amazing talk, very
clear english pronunciation , easy to understand for foreigners.
Glad you liked it!
Wonderful and a charming review!
I've always loved the British motorcycles. They have a character to it. Be it a Triumph, Enfield or a Norton. Their modern avatars are quintessentially British and catapult you a hundred years back.
What a rare insight. Thank you very much.
I just found this channel. I adore it so much. Thank you.
I am impressed with those leaf spring suspension
Multi cylinder machine is in mind of motorcycle designing for hundred year so it relative now are multi cylinder engine both from western or eastern manufactures. Nice to see old pal.
all your reviews are superb. Thanks for posting them.
This has to be the most British review I've ever seen in my life
Excellent video thanks for making it
you have preserved history
what a piece of classic narratives👍
What a singular masterpiece! I'm glad UA-cam recommend this old vid. I guess Wilkinson went back to making swords and bayonets for the war. It's a shame they didn't get a motorcycle contract instead. I wonder how many still exist out of that small run. Did they make other models as well? That is probably the most valuable motorcycle in the world.
P.S. I wish the vid was longer.
my word that is a gorgeous motorbike, i love that it is so long and low, and that seat is awesome. Love to own this for shopping and nice rides
What a wonderful machine, hope she runs forever.
I like review from this guy
The bike no doubt is a peace of wonderful & wonderful architecture & an epitome of ta great creation of the bygone era along with the machine the man Don Hall who is giving these illustration i must accept is a classic man for leaving such a sensible review that i love to watch his videos again & again- can the hoxtonmoto let us know a little more about the Rider in this video please ?
What a amazing motor bike!
This is a fantastic bike, other than the punch to the stones to start the thing. I love your only criticism and will have to remember to use a bucket seat when I build my Edwardian motor cycle with a permanent side car
Motorcycle is good but I would say that you live in heaven. The place was very beautiful and no Pollution at all.
Another excellent video. Maybe you could do some videos of early BMW motorcycles? They are a fine product (yes, I'm biased, I have one) and it's rare to see anyone doing a ride on any of them, especially pre-war if any can be found.
It’s great pleasure & surprise to see you have restored this machine to its originality and it works so well. One advice though, as this is 4 cylinder engine, the fuel consumption maybe enormous and yet didn’t see a big tank, but you can add a Hydrogen On Demand from fuel genie systems to go with this bike and you can double up your mileage while exhausting only water vapour. 😀😀
I love english bicycles. I think of Beatles music when I work on them and of the english country side, english people and their ways.
We are not perfect but we have our moments. Thank you for your kind words. :-)
Look up Fred Dibnah...
@@walterkersting1362 since you mentioned him, i thought you may have been quoting him but i cant find it.

I love it , a motorcycle for a gentleman and a lady .
It had certainly a high price when it was new , but not as high as it is today .
Thanks for the review :-)
I expected tea making facilities aboard and a crumpet toaster manifold.
I expect they are in the sidecar ...
Wonderful idea
Just what I was thinking, and maybe a nice valve-radio!
@@MichaelOZimmermannJCDECS - Don't joke about the valve-radio. I had an old VW Beetle, in fact I had several, but one in particular had an "ancient" valve-radio. It was a delight to show it of to any one looking at the car.
Mine, after turning on, took some 30 to 45 seconds until it was "hot" enough to produce some sound other than static.
Lovely piece of equipment that attracted many unsuspected smiles. :-)
Cheers
Oooohhh that be noice.
BEAUTIFUL BIKE, NICE VIDEO.
What the video does not make clear is just how advanced this bike is for 1912. Beside the obvious 4 cylinder engine, it has a hand-operated clutch, multi-speed gearbox, shaft drive with worm or bevel final-drive, rear suspension by four 1/4 elliptic springs. If it had a drum front brake, little would distinguish it from an early post-WW2 bike.
Wow that’s amazing machinery . British bikes are incredible
Amazing. Thanks for uploading.
Call ancient aliens, this technology shouldn't exist in 1912. Looks like Doc brown came back and Jules Verned up a fictitious Inline 4 cylinder liter bike to time travel around in, the workmanship and design is incredible.
Gary Grinkevich ...Good call on Jules Verne. He was way ahead of his tine as well. 🍻
Very nice and very nicely explained it
Thanks for all your efforts
AMAZING bike! And beautiful...
Your voice is very clear to understand ,nice
I have just sent Sammy Miller a large photograph of a YALE motorcycle ( the Lock Company ) They produced motorcycles between 1902 - 1915. I found the picture here in Thailand, at a sale, where I live. It was a single cylinder, probably 500 cc but they also made a vee twin, probably 1000cc.
Nice,Thanks for the review, really enjoyed it.
what a marvelous motocycle, you are a luky guy.
Great machine! Very nice review!
WOW perfect 👍👍👍. Four cylinder and coll by water. Very complex for 1912. Thanks for sharing 💙💙💙
Мотоцикл как произведение искусства.
Absolutely cool!.... I could see falling asleep behind the "bars"
Years ago in the 1970's I used to go into Rex Judd's, a combined cycle and motorcycle dealers in Edgware and saw one of these along with a Nimbus and various other old 'bikes in the foyer... seem to recall one have woven wickerwork panniers and a shopping basket un the handlebars......
Pensando all'epoca in cui venne costruita, era una moto meravigliosa!
Great Sir, I wonder how you manage to maintain this. And like your enthusiastic explaination. May God give you long and healthy life. Take care sir.
Simply fantastic! Thanks a lot for making taping editing uploading and sharing.
Best regards luck and health.
Fabulous review and wonderful humour with a splendid presenter 😊👌👍
Glad you enjoyed it
more videos with Don, guys!
Wow! Where did all this engineering talent come from? There must have been some great schools and colleges; something missing today.
love to visit England and meet fellow enthusiasts.
Take plenty of tea with you too quickly win friends.👍👍👍
Is Don still with us?This seems to have been his last review - 5 years ago.
Sadly, Don is no longer with us - greatly missed. HM
Thank you, for your reply. This is sad to hear
Magnifique machine !
Amazing bike, but the features it has aren't modern, they're advanced.
A very car like motorcycle that was undoubtedly better than many cars of its day minus a motorcars weather protection of course.
Boy, that Wilkinson is sharp! (Sorry, but I just had to.)
@robert walton Thanks. I figured I'd take a stab at it.
thats a gorgeous ride 😍
Absolutely Beautiful.
Нормально так на 1912-й год... Прогрессивная модель. Интересно какая мощность...
Wouldn't it be wonderful if some good motorcycle company made a modern copy of this beautiful motorcycle ?
Huh? What did you say? A motorcycle with a seat so comfortable you may fall asleep while riding! Well we can not have that! LOL As everyone knows motorcycle designers save the seat for last after they have used all the money budgeted to design and put a bike into production. I got back from a 3,533 mile trip to Mexico 2 weeks ago so my ass knows what it is talking about. In all seriousness a great video on a very cool bike.
Recruiting best I can dahling
I'd subscribed to this channel first of all for this gentleman's beautyfull english!I'm from Romania and understand every letter of hi word's!I don't like Indian,Australian or other dialect's!This is pure English and I love it!
Only Americans speak English correctly.
Great review. How much did this machine cost in its day?
A wad of cash
www.gracesguide.co.uk/Wilkinson_(Wilkinson_Sword)
Michael Taylor: Thank you. 143 British Pounds. 1913. If I read the chart correctly. Seemed too low
My thoughts also. Maybe difficult to determine its cost in that time.
Amazing bike, Sir. Is she still on the road?
A man who loves his wife loves a good bucket seat.
Singular motorcycle and dying narration style as well, perfectly complimenting each other.
Thanks a lot for you entousiasming story of this beauty... I love it... And really, you are a fine gentleman.....
Fantastic motorcycle!! ❤❤❤
We agree!
Thank you! That is a beautiful motor bike.
Definitely a headturner.
I love the bike, and it was a very enjoyable and informative video. I will be watching more, nice job.
Wow that is so cool thank you for sharing

Who made this design was thinking ahead of his era.
Who knew 1912 sported a bike so advanced?
