Love , love, love the challenges! Keep them coming. 👩🏻🎨 When we work within a limited palette and time, our left brain has less time to critique our work and we can’t get too attached to any particular detail. The struggle is real when there are too many choices and too much time to think critically, so this challenge was fun and surprisingly productive!
I definitely will! You hit the nail on the head-sometimes too many choices and too much thinking really hinders our creative flow. I have a new challenge video posting on Saturday that speaks to that a bit. Thank you for your feedback!
Love that composition ! Tonight im going to make your challenge..... im in the process of mooving so its going to be perfect to disconnect.. relax and create ! Merci !
This is fun. I will try this. Thanks for the idea. I am the one who recommended the yellow Frog Tape and have been meaning to get back to you about it. I paint on wood and have just recently done some sketchbook paintings using the yellow tape. I have had some instances of paper peeling, but only one of paint tearing, and I blame myself for not being careful. I have found that if I do not fully adhere the tape to the sketchbook paper the tape is more likely to pull up some paper. To prevent this, I will pull the tape off with a 45 degree angle (angled away) from the painting, holding the paper down with my other hand just behind the angled tape. I just wanted to let you know, as after painting on paper I was a little chagrined to find a bit of paper tearing. I still love the yellow Frog Tape, as it has not (except for that once) torn any paint. Thanks again for sharing. I appreciate it.
Thanks, Sybil! I think all tapes have the potential to tear paper, so no worries. I have a hair dryer in my studio and usually turn that on any tape I'm using when I peel it. No tears that way. But yellow tape is still the easiest to pull that I've used. Thanks for the feedback and tips!
Thank you so much Chris, I really really enjoyed watching you create this awesome piece as a warm up. I’d certainly love ❤️ to see more. Please stay safe and well too xxxx Mags ❤❤❤
I'll get to this challenge straight away. It will be fun. Thanks for the prompt. The drops made it more interesting. I thought that a few scratches in the square would have looked interesting too. May be the brushstrokes do that already, and it doesn't show that well in the video. Thank you again for sharing, and yes more prompts would be fun.
Hey, Brigit! Let me know how it goes. Great suggestion on the scratches! I think that would have broken up the white a little and given it a little more character.😊
Great idea, Chris, and i love the idea of a prompt, with clear parameters. It's a bit scary for someone like me who is such a colour freak, but refucing things to b w and one colour is going to be interesting. Will try at some point. Thank you. Always inspiring 😊
Great, just wanted to make sure you knew they weren't physical cards being shipped but was a 13-page download with 50 prompts.😊 I've had a couple people tell me they'd been waiting for it to arrive in the mail.
Composition! I watch a lot of abstract painting videos. Of those, most are focused on being intuitively expressive. But few take the time to truly consider composition. Many are just built upon layers of paint (which horrifies me as I consider it a waste of paint.) I will do the challenge and edit this post when I do. I, too, will slow down to observe the development and be a bit more selective instead of slinging paint. This is my favorite video of yours to date.
Hey Pat! We are on the same brain waves. I just jotted down in my notebook to do a few more composition based videos. So glad that this video resonated with you. I'm excited to hear how the challenge goes. Cheers!
Great prompt and would love more. I'm always so inspired after watching your content, so thank you! I will definitely try this first thing once I get into the studio today!
Good challenge, Chris. Will be trying out a group of these, using a different comp./colour in each. I particularly liked the way you almost (not quite) broke through the black square with a band of white. Wondering how it would feel if it had made it " ? Nice one.
I’m just starting to paint abstracts! It seems that it is a different way to look at art! I’m trying to retrain my brain to look at objects, etc. differently!
You hit the nail on the head! It really is about looking at things differently. I started by finding shapes in everyday scenes and then playing with those.
Hey Debbie! Yes, but only recently. I've thoroughly enjoyed using them. How about you? Like all art, painting abstracts can be frustrating at times, but the more you play with it, the more you're able to connect the dots.
I love this, and I love the challenge. As a novice in abstracts, I have a question. I liked those marks made with charcoal. What is the purpose behind making them and then covering them up? 🌞
Thanks, Kathleen! Great question! Typically with intuitive paintings, I typically start off with some marks. It's a way for me to start playing right away and see if the marks give me any direction as to my next step. Many times they get covered up, sometimes a few of the marks peek through at the end, and then sometimes the become a bigger part of the painting. Just one of my processes when I paint quickly. I hope that helps!😊
Hey Pattymelt! I'm just using basic painters tape amzn.to/4dKyYGX and this paper was 98lb paper in a mixed media sketchbook amzn.to/3V3X745. Hope that helps!😊
Hey Karen! Winsor & Newton is thicker than Golden liquid acrylics. To my knowledge Winsor & Newton don't have a line of liquid acrylics. I hope that helps.

@@chrisloudart Well, that's embarrassing. I can't believe I hadn't thought of using my dryer. Thanks for the tip.
having fun with your prompts! allows me to stay on point but still go a lil outside of box
I'm so glad to hear that you are enjoying these, Mel!♥️
Dots transformed it, i think🎉
Thanks!
I loved watching you do this and I keen to give it A go. Great warm up idea or play when you don’t want to do anything else.
Thanks, Jen! Let me know how it goes.😊
I really like this piece!
Thank you, Janis!
I took your challenge and had a lot of fun with it. I must confess I probably took more time than 15 minutes but I got it done.
I'm so glad to hear that Barbara! Adjust the time however you need to. As long as your painting and having fun, that's what matters.
More prompts please! They're fun. Love it
Hey, Becky! Will do, thanks.

Hm, I think my painting turned out a little bit chaotic. Quite a nice chaos though. Certainly not simple, but hey, it was a lot of fun! 😄

Thanks, Emmanuel! Let me know how it goes. It will be interesting to see what color variations you come up with using b/w & your chosen color.
just bought your cards!! excited to have direction into the chaos!!
Thanks, Mel! Are you referring to the prompts download?
@@chrisloudartyes, the prompt cards 💜

@@chrisloudartoh bummer! i thought they were cards as well...

Thanks, Ann! Oh, I thought about breaking through, glad I didn't, but it was close. Let me know how this one goes for you.
Thanks for this idea. Lately, I've been doing a variation of this, but use black, white and two colors. The results have been better than expected.
That's fantastic to hear, Edward! Do you have any method to choosing the two colors?
@@chrisloudart Sometimes it's random, meaning whatever fits my mood. At other times I go to the color wheel and choose something to work on from that.
Sounds similar to what I do.
Love the challenges!
I'm so glad you like them, Caryn!❤️
