I'm going to make this once I refine my skills but make some changes. Add side pocket to end of bag. Add feet to the bottom. Maybe add a insert for the bottom to keep the shape. Mines gunna be either black saffiano caviar or Epsom exterior with a red merino wool lining interior. MAYBE red piping to match interior but undecided and of course gold hardware with raccagni zippers. Extremely excited to make this happen!
I love your beautiful work, and it's so nice to see your faces this time! Thank you for such well made videos - I have learned a lot from your channel!
Hi Gus and family! Super like your duffel bag, great craftsmanship! I am just wondering you have used chrome tanned leather on this (as mentioned on your website), if I were to use veg tanned leather, would it work for your pattern still? Thank you so much! Keep safe you guys! Looking forward for your next videos🤩
Mastery and Simplicity, what could be better. You have the most magnificent works, some of the best, if not the best, of those that I have seen. My dream is to get closer to your level. Thanks for the experience and inspiration! Good luck! P.S. How many hours did this job take you?
Love this bag! I made this duffel out of 4-5 oz veg tan leather and it was very difficult to turn right side out.The leather was too thick and stiff. The leather at the gusset seam tore along the stitch line. Do you soften the veg tan leather before construction so it is more pliable? Or have other recommendations?
I still works on bag. Please see my Instagram. I raise my little daughter for 4 yrs and right now I'm in process of moving and construction a new workshop space in the new city. Hopefully by early of 2025 will be back to fully operate.
Nice! Do you have a video that shows in more detail what you are doing so someone can learn and follow along? Im not sure how to do the handle part when attaching to the main bag
First time watching, very much appreciated, your knowledge is well respected. I saw on the side you placed a bond/some type of stiffener, what type it was? and where can I purchase it. You should sell those extras that sometimes here in USA we are not able to find. I know in Asia they use many types of stiffeners and foam.
You can find something similar here. bit.ly/2E0qag5 I know its hard to find materials like these.(I'm sure there are some supplier for manufacturing business). In Asia there're lots of small makers. Like in Thailand where I live there are leather streets where sell bags supplies. HongKong, Japan, Korea .... lots of supplier. If someone import to USA should be great.
Hi Julie. As in video, its glue only. In video I demonstrate the glue method, if the glue quality is good enough it can stay and use well. As mainly I made leather bag pattern for sell, most of my customer work with hand stitching, for this detail its quite heavy works to hand stitch. Normally this details need industrial sewing machine (post bed or cylinder bed with binding feeder) which is quite not typical equipments to have in home. If have this machine, its better to stitch.... also it's ok for hand stitch with hard work. I've seen nowadays there are lots of very good glue. But just have to worry about the environmental working toxic. The one I use is typical contact adhesive.
Thank you for the video. I’ve purchased several patterns from you, and it has helped me tremendously. Could you show a video on how to tape the patterns together? I’m afraid I originally made the large piece too big. What are the dimensions before the finished piece? Thank you so much!
craftsmangus Hello! Thank you so much for responding so quickly! I’m afraid the link doesn’t work. Nothing shows up. Where can I find the tiling video? Thank you so, so much.
It's the actual plastic cord (it is easy to find here in Bangkok). But if hardly find in your area, you can also use rubber tube for fishtank oxygen (2mm.) or round leather cord as well. Also you can use without cord, just use the fold leather as well.
For scale down , you can scale by the percentage of printing option. But it needs to keep some proportion to be the same by adding some manual adjustment. Due to some fixed size accessories, proportion and human scale. For example. - Piping: when you scale down, the length of it is all change but you need to maintain the width to be the same. - The length of the main piece. The zipper is still the same size width but the overall length has been adjusted. So when attached the zipper, the length of the main body and the gusset will not match, the gap of zipper will be too small. I recommend to use the black clipper help check by start clipping from the middle to the top and see how large you need to cut the piece off. - Handle: when scale down you need to concern about the ring accessory too (in this drawing I use 2cm. ring for handle). And also please make sure that the handle is suitable for hand. Just normally the length of the handle in drawing is standard. - Main body wrap around reinforcement strap (the one that hold the d-ring for handle), the width must be according to the handle and d-ring too. I hope you can apply for the other points from my example of explanation.
Can you please give the details of all the tools used from start to finish? I am trying to find the tool you used to score the handles prior to putting in the stitching holes. I also would like to know what the silver tool is that you spread like a map chart tool? Thank you!
Yes, you can scale up but you just to keep some proportions. Let's say you plan to print 150%, all the things will be blow up. Some parts will be too large like a handle or binding pipe. for example: If you do blow upscale method, the width of the binding pipe have to keep the same the length you can leave as 150% blow. The zipper is still the same width so you need to add the pattern area. And also other parts needed.
Please mention via email, my wife will manage the documents things. I’m so sorry, normally now I’m not quite in see the notifications via social media network.

Hello, where you get your hardware ( like D rings ) ? Thank you
What kind of glue are you using?
Thank you man!
good!
did the glue bleed through the cotton fabric? I am worried the glue will change the color of the cotton fabric liner.
It's depend on how much you apply the glue, just thin and light is enough for help it stick, then stitch.
This is great work. May I ask how you got your start in the craft.?
Oh its about 8 years already.
As an architect and film crews I'd like to make things by myself. This is the most I like.
So the trim to cover the inside seams is only glued in place?

where to get this piping cord mate?
What a beautiful project ! I’m a huge fan of your templates ! Where disk you get that clamp you’re using to stitch the handles ?
That clamp was self mod from scrap teak wood.
You can use wall mold (I don't know how to call in English. It's a trim between floor n wall.)

When you bind the edges, don’t you just glue it on?
What fabric did you use for the lining?
please tell me
which piping materials are you used
I use solid plastic piping (not sure about the technical name), flexible but steady rope is also can.
Exelente!!
Why not to put a fabric double bottom ?
Woooooow
Where was the zipper and the zipper pull purchased from? I would like to have a luxury zipper pull and not anything cheap.
I think Riri is actually good enough, or may be you can seek for Lampo or Raccagni.
Some other brands I'm so sorry I can not remember.
What thickness is the leather for the piping? I'm about to finish making this and mine is 1.8mm thick which is way too thick.
For piping you need leather that thinned down or skived in to 0.4-0.5 mm. wrap over 2.0 mm. plastic pipe cord.
what did you use for the piping plastic cord???

But if hardly find in your area, you can also use rubber tube for fishtank oxygen (2mm.) or round leather cord as well.
