Fragrant Walnuts cookies | festive recipe

  • Traditional Walnut Cookies (Hup Toh Soh)
    Wet ingredients:
    150g butter
    130g caster sugar
    1 egg
    Dry ingredients:
    80g roasted walnuts, chopped
    255g cake flour
    20g cornstarch
    1 tsp baking powder
    1/2 tsp baking soda
    Pinch of salt
    Topping:
    Black sesame seeds
    Egg wash
    Method:
    1) Preheat oven to 180 C. Line a baking sheets with parchment.
    2) Mix together the dry ingredients, except the walnuts, set aside
    3) In a mixing bowl, whisk together butter, sugar and egg till well combined and fluffy.
    4) Add in dry ingredients and the chopped walnuts.
    5) Knead till it form a dough. It might be a bit sticky at the beginning, but it will eventually form into a soft dough.
    6) Roll the dough into balls and place them onto lined baking sheets.
    7) Slightly press the dough down, brush with egg wash and top with sesame seeds.
    8) Bake for 20 minutes, rotate pan, bake for 10-15 more minutes until the tops have become nice and golden. Cool before serving.
