@@andrewadams530 that's the exact difference that matters lol - "i watched hasan reacting to it" means "I watched select clips of the interview, chosen in a specific way to push a narrative". Hasan reacting is literally what these kids claim Destiny will do with their interviews. I don't think I've seen him watch a full video of anything political that doesn't 100% agree with his side. Now, if it is just entertainment videos while he eats or goes on a walk - that's a different story. Sure, you can still get swayed by the reactor's opinion and not make your own but at least you see the full original content and can choose whether you agree with it or not.

Not even an exaggeration, he strictly adheres to the facts. And he also is aware of the kids lack of knowledge and tries not to make them feel dumb, which would automatically make them defensive and the convo is dead. It is alarming that the protest leaders at this campus discourage open debate with someone with differing opinions. The purpose of sharing different ideals between two parties is to synthesize the information received and formulate a new opinion. These protest leaders want the people attending to remain in an Echo Chamber to keep their faulty logic coming to light.
When I heard the woman state that the participants speak for them as a collective, I laughed.

As someone who loves learning about history that type of framing is so triggering. A conflict that has WW1, WW2, the cold war, islamism, antisemitism, British colonialism, and the Ottoman Empire's management of minorities (all incredibly complex subjects in their own rights) as footnotes necessary to form a foundational understanding of its background... is not gonna be summed up in a pithy phrase.
People of all ideologies, all beliefs, of good and evil intentions, love to use what amounts to historical trivia as a club to beat each other in the arena of demagoguery. History is so much more complicated and nuanced and the sick reality is that most people have no desire to wade through the uncomfortable realities of humanity that you inevitably find - especially when they challenge your own worldview. It makes me think of how you can bend objective science to your political will using disingenuous statistics; history is of course no more sacred and is even more prone to perversion because it is obviously more difficult to determine or establish a standard for objective truth.
I don't want to sound to sanctimonious here because I am obviously just as predisposed to that bias as anyone; it exists within every human being. The only way to combat it is to recognize it and fight against it, and that is merely the first step on the path to objective reasoning instead of masturbatory thinking.

I see this a lot in France, where the left is bullying itself out of supporters and sending them to the far right by hi-jacking their movement for very specific polarizing topics at the cost of the original core plight of their movements. All the far right has to do to win these rejected people over is not be a dick to them, and maintain very unclear 2-faced messaging from which people will only retain the part they agreed with.
As other people said: if you're at a public protest, you should be able to defend your opinions relating to the topic of the protest. If not, then you shouldn't be there. If the organizers don't trust you to speak your mind, they're admitting to bringing in as many uninformed people as they could to bolster their numbers and give the illusion of a popular opinion despite it not being that clear or widespread, or even fragile if anyone tries to dig into it.

Like if a grifter comes on campus, who is very well known for being objectively bad faith, and just looking for screaming matches or something that’s one thing. But even if you disagree with destiny, there’s no doubting that he’s one of the best Faith actors on the Internet. So if you’re not wanting to engage with someone like him, it’s not because you don’t think they’re serious it’s because you’re afraid of what they have to say, and that your beliefs are not strong enough to stand up against them, which is quite telling.

You have to understand that most of these kids entire understanding of Destiny is from carefully chosen short clips that are watched by Hasan or posted in their Twitter/Reddit bubble. So in some sense, from inside their bubble he is pretty much ONLY known for being "bad faith". Note how many people get an entirely different perspective on Destiny the first time they actually watch even just ONE long-form video of his. Most people who hate him or think of him as a hardcore bad faith actor are in some sense being "reasonable" based on what they have actually seen, but all they have ever been exposed to is intentionally misleading propaganda.

But when I watch the protests, and the chants, and awkward speeches followed by semi-smug smiles, it's hard not to think that.. it's not so much standing up for what's right that draws them so much as the chants themselves, and the speeches, and the opportunity to be seen. And it makes me worry, because you have to wonder that if someone else had a catchy enough chant, or a compelling enough speech, or the right community.. if they wouldn't be just as likely to back that cause instead, regardless of it's morality
But then also as I stood there inwardly cringing at these young white kids in their faux arabic garb yelling some silly chants (and those awkward grins after....) a muslim friend of mine happened to come up and remarked how encouraging it was to her to see so many non-muslim people at the protest. So it's conflicting.
The problem is.. they're so young and raw and bad at conveying their message that they almost do a disservice to their own cause. But then that's been the left for the last several decades.. we just never have a coherent message or coherent messengers..

I'm someone of asian descent and I've basically never experienced racism here until one instance very recently (some bitter, crazy old black man yelling at my mom, accusing her of being a racist when he and his grandkid basically stole stuff in front of our face. Also verbally harassed my younger brother, who was just helping out at the store).
In another part of the world, that one bad experience could turn into one that creates racism, but as an american I know plenty of black guys of moral character and values. It's literally the most remote areas where you'd find any substantial amount of racism, and we all know how people in the US feel about them lol

Hasan’s video was like 2 hours total, with his commentary. He watched less than 2 hours of the 5 hour debate, I guess that doesn’t include the Hasanabi clip channels though, maybe he watched those

I watched most of it, there is around 11hrs or so of reaction to the lex debate. Tried to divest my content consumption to see disagreements regarding the debate so I don't get sucked into an echo chamber. Hasan demonstrated a larger knowledge base than lead to believe by destiny and dgg as a whole, however a lot of his points were misguided and showed a lack of understanding of the point or question asked in the debate. Happy to write out an example or two if asked. But I would weakly recommend browsing it to see what his response was. Not much was substantial on hasans end but worth seeing that 'doesn't know nothing' isn't entirely true, even if that knowledge is misguided and doesn't understand that information well

@@thepolitician247Well, I guess that's better than expected? Because his only debate with a pro-Israeli is a 16-year-old and clips/tweets of an extreme pro-Israeli, it's hard for me to actually quantify Hasan's knowledge on the topic
I would like some examples, if you don't mind.

@@thepolitician247 I know Hasan knows a lot about the situation, I just know he hates Destiny 😂 I wasn’t sure how charitable he was towards Destiny in the debate
