I found that it was more helpful to only have my focus on the current lap, and only looking at a ghost if i felt i was REALLY stuck, with no ideas on how to go quicker!

Steve, thanks for giving a drive for this time trial. At first, I was having a hard time driving the Porsche 918 at Atlanta. In the chicane you are turning in to hit the apex too soon, hence not having the best exit speed coming out of it. If you stay to the right side of the race track longer and turn into the chicane later you will get more in lign with the apexes and have a better exit speed! I love your videos and I am nothing close to your level, but I think this will help 😂
16:51 If anyone was actually wondering, judging by the mileage on the car at the beginning of the video and the mileage at the end and assuming all of the mileage came exclusively from the time trialing efforts shown, Steve did approx. 93 miles in the car between his first lap and his best lap or 36.6 full lap distances at Road Atlanta. Plenty more than "10", but considering the fact that a fair amount of that mileage came in partial distances leading up to retries, I'd say that's a fairly minimal amount of laps to do to crush a top 250 time in the world, Steve. GG, dude.
Thank you for putting this together! I think it always feels longer when you're doing it but actually I agree, that's not a huge amount of miles for the time achieved.
My suggestion would be to treat the 918 like a Kart. Not having the maximum grip in the corners, but sliding a bit so you straighten the car for the next corner and exit.

Drive the samabus around Australia the AI has no idea what gear to select to power it up the hill 🤣 it's around 30 seconds slower. On France it's around 2-3s slower, at my best I can probably hit a 1:20s on MT using a pad, the wheel guys doing 1:19s, alot of it has to do with the momenteum you carry downhill if you hug the final turn you can do 45+mph & 54mph over the line, downhill the first corner if you slot it right you can carry 60+mph riding the blue/yellow rumble strip you can loose up to 1.5s on the next uphill section if you only carry 58mph.
I don't feel so bad that I just missed out on Gold. If I'd put more time in and chased more ghosts, I might have gotten there, but I ended up with a 3.15% time, 1:16.355, twisting my DualSense from the couch. This one was tough!
I got gold at like 1:16.215 and was shocked lol i think this was was all about getting enough rotation for the 918's power to not be wasted by its understeer
I feel that in the chicane you turn in a bit too early. As you could've seen in both of these ghosts, they can carry more speed out of it thanks to turning in later and having better lineup for the next turn.
I feel like for quality of life, When doing time trials, at the start of every other lap you should get a full battery charge. Just so weird that you can only do 4 push laps and then have to reset your momentum.

Hah, I know the pain 😅 I got a 15.2 relatively early, but knew from the individual sector times that there was more time to be gained and I struggled to get into the 1:14s. I spent a lot of time at this TT and I'm now down to a 14.6 - but still 2 tenths possible according to the sector bests. So I will go until the very end
I’m grateful to see you struggle on this one Steve, I think I am just short of Silver and had to give up in frustration. I usually get Silver and on occasion a gold, but this one is frustrating. I do drive in VR and wonder if this is a disadvantage or might it be that I am approaching 56 yo and just don’t react fast enough 😢 Back to the grind for silver… well done on the top 300 👍
Friendly observation: the 918 is relatively heavier than it seems and hides its mass with sophisticated mechanical grip. This means that it favors situations where there is less weight transfer and all four tires are equally loaded (such as in low-to-medium-speed turns). For this reason, the moment you slam on the brakes in this car, you are losing all of its mechanical grip as it virtually becomes a two-wheel drive car again and reveals all of its mass. You can't upset the load distribution if you want maximum grip with this car. You're losing a lot of time to the ghost at the beginning of the long straight because the ghost is trail-braking that turn, which the car is able to do because it is operating within its low-speed threshold of mechanical grip. Instead, you are slamming on the brakes and taking all the force off of the rear tires that were engineered to get the car to rotate around the turn. Towards the end of the straight, you are trail-braking instead of focusing on FIRSTLY slowing down and THEN using the throttle to rotate the car around the turn like the ghost does. Further, if you can't adjust the brake bias then try to compression brake by downshifting earlier to help keep the car level so it can use its AWD to rotate. I thoroughly enjoy spectating your races. I think you're a brilliant driver and by no means do I think that I am better. This car seems very unintuitive to drive at a circuit. But I think if you can address this issue of weight distribution, you could shave off at least a tenth.
There was a TT recently ended, that had some sort of Lambo, a Reventon or whatever it's called. That thing was so undriveable, I quit the TT before I'd even done an out lap. Give me my Gr.4 Italia, or my Gr.3 911 RSR, any day.
I managed to get gold fairly quickly on this one. If you're not shooting for the top 300 you can just brake early (earlier than that), focus on hitting the apex and you'll be able to build towards the gold in a reasonable amount of time.
Kept missing out by about 0:020 seconds, hit bronze after 15 attempts. Super frustrating, nearly threw the pad across the room. Then remembered how much ps5 pads cost to replace
11:40 Yep, the time trial line is often not exactly the same as the racing line, since the line you do during the race is always a compromise between speed and consistency. So I've been wondering if its actually bad practice to rely on muscle memory for time trials, especially if you have a lot of racing experience, since it would make it more difficult to switch to a new driving style when needed. Is it better to improve your learning process or to focus on the individual challenge? It's like asking if a generalist or specialist is better in the long term.
I was happy to hit bronze on my second lap. $500,000 credits. Thank you GT7😅 It was a fun car to drive for a Porsche. Reminded me of the Alpine A200 race car.
Now in Forza you could've gained so much more time by simply driving full whack in to the back of the car infront and taking the corners, while they get the penalty.
No problem, just sell PS5 & get Xbox x & real game pass & I pass on phony Sony. Driving Forza Motorsport & Starfield on my Console & Computer for same monthly subscription from Sony for Nothing I was interested in their Fake Game Pass. Not even a year old GT7 what a scam, got off that anti-consumer greedy company after 20yrs
Only time trial where i can't get higher than a silver, stuck at 1.16.7. Watched multiple guides and laps, doing the same or in places better but can't find the last few tenths, dunno where I'm losing time.
I feel like the Racing Softs are too grippy for the 918 and it should've been Racing Hards at most. The 918 doesn't have the downforce/suspension setup to fully utilize all of the grip, but then because you get a ton of traction out of corners and on initial turn-in, you feel like you have to push much harder than you should be pushing, causing all kinds of understeer moments.
Seeing Steve struggle give me chills in trying even for bronze😂
I got bronze on day 1 and that was tough. I'm scared to see how far I've been pushed back

Kept missing out by about 0:020 seconds, hit bronze after 15 attempts. Super frustrating, nearly threw the pad across the room. Then remembered how much ps5 pads cost to replace
This looked advanced compared to the GT class. I ponder how many have actually driven on the physical track. Interesting trial :-)
That car is a handful to keep on track
I loaded in, tried 2 corners, felt like I was turning the titanic, instant quit
11:40 Yep, the time trial line is often not exactly the same as the racing line, since the line you do during the race is always a compromise between speed and consistency.
So I've been wondering if its actually bad practice to rely on muscle memory for time trials, especially if you have a lot of racing experience, since it would make it more difficult to switch to a new driving style when needed.
Is it better to improve your learning process or to focus on the individual challenge? It's like asking if a generalist or specialist is better in the long term.
Its nice to know that I wasn't the only one who struggled with this time trial but 1:15 is insane, my max time was 1:17 😅
16:44 "How many miles I did in this car" I'm guessing it was 140.9 miles at that exact moment 😅
I was happy to hit bronze on my second lap. $500,000 credits. Thank you GT7😅
It was a fun car to drive for a Porsche. Reminded me of the Alpine A200 race car.
i remember there being a bounty hunter mission on forza 7 set on this track with a lotus 2-eleven and trust me that was a slidey car
Not even a year old GT7 what a scam, got off that anti-consumer greedy company after 20yrs

this time trial is the bane of my existence i had gold then they changed the times by a couple hundred milliseconds and im silver now
I love this track so much man
Add about 2 seconds per lap and this almost exactly mirrors my experience of this trial.
Only time trial where i can't get higher than a silver, stuck at 1.16.7.
Watched multiple guides and laps, doing the same or in places better but can't find the last few tenths, dunno where I'm losing time.
You know its a good day when super gt uploads a time trial video
I feel like the Racing Softs are too grippy for the 918 and it should've been Racing Hards at most. The 918 doesn't have the downforce/suspension setup to fully utilize all of the grip, but then because you get a ton of traction out of corners and on initial turn-in, you feel like you have to push much harder than you should be pushing, causing all kinds of understeer moments.
