Technically everything alive reacts to stimuli, but that doesn't mean the dog had any strong feelings about the human woman. He probably couldn't even understand that she was "in trouble" which is what the title implies. Remember, he's a dog. When we start overanthropomorphizing animals, that will get US into trouble.
