Jizzo Jizzo Jizzo....Let it go. I love you brother, but I was The 18-year-old kid singing Rock Queen back to you at a beach party on oak Beach Long Island in 1990. Please make a review of The Crow. I'd buy that for a dollar! I did enjoy Rockstar to be fair. Not as a documentary obviously, but as a fantasied illustration of what an aspiring teenage rocker has in his head.
Check out that video. You'll like it. The guy is an old friend of mine who is legit. Sang on Crazy Lizzy albums. Sings for Mentalist and Reveal. Records with Blind Guardian drummer Theomen Stauch. Check it out. Rob is amazing.
Jizzo you are correct they did assemble every Rockstar cliché known to mankind, having said that I found it reasonably enjoyable back in the 2000's when I saw it, though Walberg wouldn't have been my choice for Chris. The part where he wanted to contribute to songwriting and they blew him off reminded me of Def Leppard (Joe and Phil write most of their tunes as far as I know). Dude you never fail to entertain me lol!
Man. My musical 80s? As a 14-20 yr old? Was absolutely posing w my guitar and singing w hair brush microphones..blah blah. See..You're a Gen older than those who know you from Black Out.. (which..I love! And I'm subbed to you) I'm telling you? My thoughts. It's a Cult classic for a reason lol. Cause? Yes .Gen X? We pierced our own piercings man. We dreamed to be on stage! And It happened to Ripper Owens dude. Whom? The movie is Based off (ya knew that?) so..while You were doing it?! We? We're dreaming it. That? Is why the Movie is a GenX staple my friend 😊
The Batmobile. I'm pretty sure where that came from, Jeff Pilson. I met Jeff while working at West LA Music, he had the Batman Theme on his answering machine. I somehow knew he loved the Batmobile. It may have even been his. He was the Music Director for the movie and got all the musicians. That Batmobile might have even been his. Ask him if you get a chance. I know there was some cheese and a conglomeration of stories. Even the Zep Sun God story that actually happened to Robert Plant where he left with some locals and partied and said that. It's almost verbatim. Anyway, I knew Jeff was the Music Director and when I saw the Batmobile, I said to myself, Holy Crap, Jeff got the Batmobile in the movie. My jaw kind of hit the floor. I thought it was fun seeing Zak Wylde and all the musicians you'd never see in a Film like a Beatles movie. Maybe Tim Ripper Owens was obsessive about looking like Rob Halford working at 7/11? It would be an interesting question since he was in a Judas Priest Tribute back in the early 90s before even The Atomic Punks happened. Anyway, it probably could have been better as a biopic that Judas Priest wouldn't go for. Jeff Pilson is a Boss type, he was a big driver in Dokken and he didn't wait around, he started Flesh and Blood then War & Peace when he was trying to keep going after Dokken and we were slamming into the 90s. Love/Hate was a little more ready for the Seattle onslaught then a lot of the people that were in the film. They had mouths to feed and it wasn't the best of times with Grunge for a lot of the musicians in the film at the time. I think most looked at it as an amalgamation of many stories and that it was a reference to the Judas Priest thing without the true story.
When you think about the original intent re: the Judas Priest / Ripper story -- the final product has so many cliche tropes and departures from reality that it becomes more of a parody than anything else.
I remember starting to watch this movie years ago. I think I made it to about the phone call scene and had enough. Something about Marky Mark playing a long haired rocker guy didn’t sit well with me. I forgot about Jason Bonham being in it.

@@jpearl1274 Dio was the only one to pass this audition, not because of his amazing singing but his height. Who are other singers that could pass this awkward audition? Haha
