Awesome stuff! I, too, have built a few GKW kits. To help bring out the maple top grain more, I have used a washed coat of either darker color of the stain/dye ( I prefer dye) or even a washed black, and then apply the actual color coat of dye or stain. For my outer finish, I like regular gloss lacquer, and I apply it by hand, not spray, except for the headstock where I do a logo by hand. To make the lacquer easier to apply, I dilute the lacquer slightly. For expanding holes for CTS pots, I use a hand reamer. It allows you to custom open that hole microcosmically to be more accurate. Great sounding axe, sir, and a nice rig to run it thru!!!! Good job!!
Wow! This is an awesome video man! How could we have missed this. Thank you so much for the review and good job fixing the neck pocket. And yes! Wood does expand due to humidity and temperature plays a vital role in storing these guitars since the pores are still open and not finishied then this package had to travel overseas. Thank you for your consideration and kudos to that DIY fix, it was spot on. Loving the gretsch build bro! You're the one who nailed it really well so far. We'll be intouch soon if we plan on a collab, you're definitely going to be on that list. Rock on dude!
The Minwax Wipe-on Poly works better than anything I’ve found for guitars. It’s super easy to work with and is really forgiving, not to mention you can sand between coats if needed, and it’s a breeze to build it up as much or little as you like. Plus it comes in Gloss and Satin.
Hello sir. Looks like a very nice build and this video gives people an idea how involved just the wiring of a hollow body guitar is. I only play archtop guitars like this one you did. I do my own electrical repairs and mods and I know from experience it takes time to do it the right way.
Hello Josh. Like your Videos. I have been building guitars the past 5 years and have enjoyed it much. Only wish I had started when I was Young but was busy playing the game of Survival.
You have a nice guitar there and you have done a superb job on it. I agree with you on not really liking the little bit of gloss on the top. Man pull the knobs and tremolo of and get you some high gloss poly and lightly sand the top and face of the peghead and put five or six good coats on the guitar and let it cure for a couple of weeks to a month and light sand with 600 or higher and buff it out to a great shine. Take some 4 ought ( 0000 ) steel wool and rub down the back of the neck to give it a slick and fast playing neck. You have gone too far to scrimp out on that guitar now!!
Turned out great. Even if you sprung for some TV Jones pickups, real Grovers Imperials, and a real Bigsby you are still several thousand below what a White Falcon would cost.
Very cool video. I almost wish I hadn’t seen it, cuz now I think I must have one of those. That would make 7 guitars. Somebody stop me! Never built a guitar, but it looks pretty doable.
The buzz is more than likely coming from florescent lighting. I know it really annoys me when I'm playing my hot wound Texas blues single coils. You would have to build a makeshift Faraday Cage around your pickups and pots to try and combat the 60 cycle buzz. The feed back is another story, to try and dampen it would defeat the purpose of having a hollow body. I'm thinking thicker finish might tone it down a hair. But your build sounds fantastic to my ears.
No sanding sealer? You were brave as f installing that Bigsby without using embroidery thread for string alignment. Lucky. (And ground your bridge dude, as others have mentioned.)
Not at all. Two years later I’m still playing it with no issues. They are actually sending me a Les Paul jr kit to make. Sould have a video out within a month.
My name is Ronnie I'm a custom cabinet maker and guitar player interested in building that same Orange beautiful gritch copy well gritch copy gritch guitar that you built it sounds great If you can please let me know where I can get one I can get 1 I live in quebec Canada thank you buddy I enjoy your show
Wow and to think Gretsch charges min $3.5K for one of those (and they frequently have neck problems - oh yes Japan - neck problems.) Impressive guitar you built!
im going to hell for laughing at your heroin addict comment...great job...wouldnt that crack get glued by default when you set the neck??? Love the color by the way...i will have an orange jazz box (gretsch ish) one day

Temperature don't mean shit. Humidity does

I think you can solve the noise problem by grounding the wire harness to the bigsby.
Brian Seltzer would be proud. I loved the sound of his guitar. The Stray Cats were my favorite band in the 80's.
Good job. Love it and love your excitement.
Me: im gonna watch the whole video before subscribing
Him: I’ll pick them up, because they’re pickups
Me: SUBSCRIBED
Awesome looking guitar, brother. Sounds great too.
👍 looks great! I'm tempted to try to put together a guitar kit
Your shirt makes my heart full :)
Cool build man, looks and sounds amazing!
Thanks for the video! Your project turned out great!
Where did you get the orange stain?
Great job! Beautiful looking and sounding
The Fakesby. Hey...if it works...and works well, what the hell!
Stumbled on to your channel. Love your work! Guitar sounds amazing. 🤘

Very nice buddy. Beautiful guitar indeed. Don't forget to ground the bridge. Take care 😊👍👏🎸🎸
So good man! I have a gretsch black falcon and that sounds identical! I would like to see the finger board with a dark stain maybe though! Bravo!
Love your Axxe, gonna have to build myself one. Thanks:)
Well done man, that's a fabulous job.

That was a fun video Dude!

Sounds incredible great vid

She sounds amazing! Great vid!
Spar urethane would be very glossy and look awesome on this axe!
Sounds great!

Great work
How deep is it, at the neck?
How wide is the neck? What is the nut width? Thank you very much. BTW, you did a great job.
Sounds amazing, too much orange for me, though.
I'd send it back, don't matter where it came from. Crack in the neck pocket and the binding jacked up? Yeah
I would buy one!
No sanding sealer?

You don’t need to worry about neck shims with this glue in neck construction? That would be great.
Not at all. Two years later I’m still playing it with no issues. They are actually sending me a Les Paul jr kit to make. Sould have a video out within a month.
Love it
Great work. What’s the slide music in the second half of the episode?
It’s a song I recorded.
Great work sir. What brand stain did you go with? Turned out beautiful
Very awsome , I have to make one now. But with nitro glossy finish. Lol
Nice work on the headstock logo, how did you go about doing that ?
Les Paul inlays on a grudge style guitar?
Anyone know who songs are by in the video
What is the orange stain you used??
It was a color tone orange. I got it from StewMac
Tu l'a acheté où ?

There’s a link in the description for where I got mine. I think they ship to anywhere
Lol…love the guy on a Buffalo shirt
Wow and to think Gretsch charges min $3.5K for one of those (and they frequently have neck problems - oh yes Japan - neck problems.) Impressive guitar you built!
Are these kits still available? If so how much?
Why scrape the binding?
That’s the traditional way of doing it. Much easier than trying to tap it off
How to order?
The fake Bigsby might be a real one with no label? Would nice eh, nice build bud.
I kind thought the same thing but you can tell the quality is no where close to a real bigsby
What pickups did you decide to use?
Gretsch blacktop flitertrons
Can you list the songs on the video ?
All the music is originals by me.
Tiger that’s exactly what I said lol
im going to hell for laughing at your heroin addict comment...great job...wouldnt that crack get glued by default when you set the neck??? Love the color by the way...i will have an orange jazz box (gretsch ish) one day
You need jazz music
