Grill Grates have turned my portable grill into a steak searing machine.
Seems like reading ice can throw you off for calibration purposes. Water converts to ice at 32 degrees, sure. But, your fridge/freezer goes down to.. 0 degrees, right? So your ice, fresh out of the freezer should be zero... I would think.
Thanks for the helpful info!
You're very welcome! Grill on!
For calibration I would add to use both freezing and boiling water. Then compare the differences to get a more accurate "calibration constant". Specially on the probe meter.
Good stuff...
Thanks Thomas!
What is the emissivity of GrillGrates? I need this number to calibrate my ThermoWorks IR gun.
We will check on that ASAP and have an answer for you early next week!
GrillGrates are made of hard-anodized aluminum. Pre-seasoned the emissivity is .77. Our IR Temp Gun is programmed to .95.
@@Grillgrate_eat_well so seasoned grill grates would be higher? I assume it would be around .85 since seasoned black cast iron would be around .95. I’ll try .77, .85, and .95 to determine how much temp difference it would be.
@@Bill-N-Carolina curious to know what you found with your testing? I am thinking of picking up a ThermoWorks IR since I have other products from them and they have always been good.
