  • Action Society’s director of community safety, Ian Cameron, and Police Minister Bheki Cele have been making headlines following their heated exchange in Gugulethu. According to Cameron, he and the entity will be laying charges against Cele and some police officers. In a video circulating on social media, Cele is seen shouting at Cameron, telling him to "shut up and sit down," before an officer escorts him out. This after the Minister failed to answer questions about the police's inability to protect South Africans against crime.
    Executive Director at Oxfam SA, Lebogang Ramafoko, weighs in.
    Tune into Newzroom Afrika, DSTV channel 405, for more details.

      “Move on” says a benefactor of apartheid policy. I was in agreement with your statement till the “move on”, that comment is so ignorant and grotesque. It reflects a complete removal of the plight of those that still live under racial policies. I’m curious to know if that’s the came view you hold on Jews, because the effects of a holocaust are long lasting. What happened in South Africa since 1652 has been a holocaust, nothing else. Cele’s race card was shallow, it was used out of context. He’s a weak leader and an even worse politician there is no question about that, however to say “move on” that is a fascist assertion.

    It is utmost racism to say Cameron does not have the right to confront issues that are wrong just because the community he speaks for is black and he is white. Is it racism for a white to care about a black community along with the greater crime problem he addresses. It should be seen as admirable that he cares about a race group other than his own quite the opposite of racism.

    05:56 " *Toe to toe, the minister is out of his depth* " - powerful words, which I wholeheartedly agree with.
    I'm certainly not too familiar with Ian Cameron, but I am sure he does not hold a ministerial position, and is not in charge of a critical organisation like SAPS, and yet as a 'mere' civil rights activist "toe to toe", he would beat Cele, hands down.
    Cele failed DISMALLY as Police Minister, demonstrating his complete and utter failure during the JULY (2021) RIOTS! After the Riots - where civil society come together to protect themselves, their neighbourhoods and businesses in the area (something the police weren't at all capable of accomplishing) - the minister tried to stoke racial tensions. Cyril Ramaphosa and the ANC are hobbling the country with cadre deployment - putting people without a clue or passion, or any experience into roles of such critical importance - just because they're "card carrying members" and were part of a struggle some 30-odd years ago. Cele should retire and go sip on his morning tea. The truth of the matter is that Cele's loyalties do not lie with the best interests of the country... I fear he is still a staunch supporter of the shadow government (where showerheads are all important).

    • @Jonathan_Strange
      @Jonathan_Strange 2 роки тому +5

      Please understand that I respect and appreciate that there are a number of decent, passionate, qualified and hard working members of the police in service at the moment. THANK YOU. 💙

      They think they are above the law since parliament makes the laws. We must not accept to be bullied by those outdated politicians, you are right they engaged like wild animals in parliament yet they want to be respected by the public for messing up and refuse to be accountable. We will not bow down for mediocrity.

      True Derek - South African Parliament has become the laughing stock of the World - I was raised in the Apartheid Era when we still had some form of morals that there is a time and a place for everything and Julius is basking away in Spain with another of his crooked cronies

    God bless this woman. You see minsiter Cele, this woman doesn't say that the person asking her questions views her as a kitchen girl, she is a respectable woman with more than enough intellect to take on any challenge or argument. She is right when she says your head should hang in shame if you have suffered something previously and are now indifferent to your fellow South-Africans and their suffering and plight. By the way, when she asked her interviewer the reverse to say if Cameron was not in that meeting would the community issues have been addressed, right there and then she shows how biased her interviewer is, he is not after truth and fact. Love this woman, we need more black men and women like this woman in our country.

    bloody hell, many of us have been waiting years for someone to finally say these words for all to hear. More so for those who have the same mindset as Cele who keep us in this festering state, where SA is going nowhere, as nobody is willing to evolve beyond the old. The people need to listen to people like this lady, and not loud mouth arrogant men who only ever scratch at old wounds, bleeding people dry, never allowing them to grow as people, Like Malema and his EFF, and of course the ANC.

    The Minister is in that position FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN public and us as South African citizens. This was an event FOR the community and NOT for a minister to "make it all about him" and behave so unprofessional. White, black, yellow or red....the race of a person doing what is right for the community does not deserve to be labeled by race, but rather the deeds and what the person stands for. Cele revealed his true self. He did not like hearing facts and then deflected by playing the "race" card. It is not the first time this has happened when it comes to people in positions of power. Ask this....has Cele EVER walked in the boots of a SA Police officer in any part of this country....NO....he has NOT. Another prime example of what happens when you state facts and the other party (Cele) has ZERO justification or explanation on the grievances/factual points raised. Pathetic and anger at that level is a sign of weakness. Be ashamed if your behaviour and you, Mr Cele, needs to either step down and someone with actual police experience should be in that position. You revealed your true "identity" and "sense if entitlement" on live television for everyone to see. That alone shows where your priorities lie and when faced with the truth you are totally clueless unless you can patrol the beaches and abuse your power on people during lockdown....but when the riots and unrest in KZN happened you were nowhere to be found.....well....you did arrive after all was destroyed. It is easy to focus on the easy soft targets and very telling if you shy away from the very real and difficult situations.

Thank you Lebogang for adressing the issue reagardless of the person raising it. Accountability for all will change this country in a heartbeat.
