  • The cooling system on an outboard is a very simple and compact application. Water is inducted through the lower unit by a water pump impeller, and then forced upward to circulate throughout the powerhead, and eventually exits through the exhaust system.

I agree , the impeller is probably bad, the water should be spraying out of the pee hole

Another problem we have in the US is mud daubbers building up mud in the pee hole, just poke a wire or piece of weed whip line to clear it out.

I have 9.9 Johnson motor that does not pour water out or spit water from the prop. It runs super hot and smokes badly. What could the problem be first time owning a boat.

Hi Scott impeller knackered do not run without getting that fixed first ,is it a 2 or 4 stroke if 2 stroke then they do smoke a bit or to much oil in fuel if its a 4 stroke possible rings have gone or worn bore its hard to pin point as there could be lots of reasons

Try pulling thermo out. Maybe sand behind it. Try running

My 15 horse mid-eighties Chrysler sea king Montgomery Ward has no water coming out until the thermostat opens then the bottom half of the unit has to fill up with water before it comes out of the exhaust ports...the 57 Johnson motor 5.5 horse always has water spitting out of it

Run in in an actual lake or something. I think it would be better. Makes me want to replace my impellar now.

Needs to warm up before peeing fully so that’s spot on
