I like how it reinforced that her imagination is as big as ever thanks to Luffy's encouragment. Also it made me cry but the whole page with Bonney was a tear jerker. "But gods do exist, and real heros too" Oda knows how to bring out the tears man...
The shot of Luffy and Bonney preparing their combo makes Bonney’s fist look like a Shinning Sun and that makes it my favorite panel in Egghead besides the double page with all Five Elders. Bonney better become a Straw Hat after this, could not think of a better life for her than to sail across the world with the man her father believed in.
I’d gotta say, Luffy probably could have done a wrap on this fight a few pages earlier: but what stuck out to me was, as you said, how he’s supporting Bonney. Literally shaping the spotlight on her with this paneling. Luffy wanted Bonney to get the last meaningful hit, and set her up to get that cathartic, life long revenge and grief for her lost Distorted Past, and (importantly) feel like she earned her freedom and peace with Kuma. If Luffy did the usual thing and KO’d Saturn, that wouldn’t be as impactful. This win HAD to be Bonney’s. It’s like letting your little sister beat the big boss in a co-op game, by doing the hard stuff yourself, and letting her deal the final damage. I’d say emotionally, this is top 3 victory shots for me.
i was literally just playing splatoon and just closed an X rank splatoon 3 tab, so it was very confusing that i was hearing splatoon 3 music. i was like _wait... is that tab still open?!_ but na, just some nice splatoon bgm
I love how Luffy kinda takes a back seat to Bonney almost everytime, but even if he does that, his presence is felt *and* it doesn't feel forced or cheap either. It just feels right. I really liked those 2 panels where Luffy looks like an illusion and the final hit on Saturn.
yeah, that was the one time I feel Oda fumbled the panelling of a major villain defeat, and it's a letdown with how built up Kaido's defeat was. The anime did an amazing job with it though
Great video. I have just a question on the last page. Aokiji seems to look after Bugy and the misterious figure seems protecting Imu from Drangon and Akainu. Is this a foreshadowing?
The triangle could convey that even though Bonney using luffy nika power at the end of the day Luffy is the head hancho . Similar to goku and gohan both using kamehameha.
