it winds me up so much when people say she can’t sing. not in the usual ironed out smooth pop vocal style of the masses of artists that have been forgotten about, but in a crooked, ugly but hauntingly beautiful wail. her voice has so much emotion and moves me massively.

I would also question whether you've heard the original. I have a hard time believing anyone who has, or has heard any of Harvey's performances of it in the past 20 years would rank this as anything other than a pale shadow of the song.

I really don't get why people in the comments think this is bad. Haters. This is raw and beautiful, of course no one can sing it just like PJ, just like no one can cover a Hole song and be as good as Courtney. The thing about covers is that everyone is always expecting it to sound just like the original or even better, which is very difficult because everyone will always prefer the original version, so for a Courtney cover this is pretty good guys!
I love courtney's music but it's ok to not identify with every single performance she does. It's not an attack on art, expression, or you and your tastes. Sometimes you can be too off key to a point where the expression is lost in translation for most people

It is shocking that you claim Courtney is so popular and yet she has not won 2 mercury prizes like PJ, nor is she thought of as one of the greatest female alternative artists of all time like PJ is. It is shocking that you don't realize that PJ Harvey is a far more revered and respected figure in music than Courtney. It is shocking that you don't realize that "popularity" has nothing to do with covering a song well.
