I had a pass and got in before the doors were open to the public.
If you really want to get to the front, it might be worth ringing the ticket agents on the morning of your gig to find out how well and how quickly the tickets sold. And then gauging how early you need to get there.
eg. If it sold out in half an hour, camp outside the door for a few days, or if only 20 tickets have been sold, no rush, just turn up 5 mins before the band are due on.
