One of the best drummers of all time, simple as that
😂😂😂😂😂
Saw him with MSG in 81 he was the MAN!!!!
Pretty much....
Word!
Cozy Powell’s cover of Theme One was the opening theme of our discotheque’s DJ show from 1979 to the end of the disco scene in the 1980s.
Loved when he played with the Jeff Beck Band. RIP Cozy ♡
Attended his blue plaque opening in Cirencester in 2016. Fellow musicians Brian May, Suzi Quatro, Carl Palmer, and Tony Iommi were all there celebrating Cozy’s life and drumming skills. I wore my Emerson Lake and Powell badge which was acknowledged by Carl when I spoke to him.
It was such honour to be there and I will never forget this day.
Cozey Powell, Phil Rudd, John Bonham, and Ian Paice all influenced me to play air drums while listening to their music on my headphones!🥁🎧❤
Once mentioned as a replacement for Bonham.
you forgot Neil Peart!
@@ZoltánCsobay I didn't forget the Late Great Neil Peart! I made a short list of drummers and I couldn't cover them all.🥁
@@ZoltánCsobayCarl Palmer of ELP, Alan White of Yes.
I was lucky enough to meet Cozy when he was playing with Sabbath on the Headless Cross tour in Toronto after the concert . Still have their Tour photo signed by Cozy , Tony Iommi , Neil Murray and Tony Martin . Great drummer .
I met them all on that tour at Leicester Square where they were promoting their LP and Cozy and Co. signed my Headless Cross LP, later there were drinks with the band at the Hippodrome - London
A truly nice bloke. The landlord at the Saracens Head in Daventry which had live bands every weekend back in the early 90's said he was mates with Cozy Powell and said he would get him to play, needless to say we were skeptical but true to his word got him to come he came and sat in with the band and played a whole set for free. Not many rock legends would do that. RIP Cozy.
Cozy's drum intro of Stargazer (Rainbow) is still one of my all time favourites! All the rest as well of course. To my mind his best time was with Rainbow.
Stargazer drum intro was Cozy ? never knew. It's the last heavy rock track I ever had on vinyl, and one of the best
Agreed, when he does the hit and catch with the cymbal, cutting it off is genius.
Cozy's drumming with Rainbow and Sabbath was incredible. One of the most powerful and skillful drummer's I've ever heard. And he had a few hit singles in the early seventies
An absolute drum legend, saw him many times with Whitesnake . Rest in Peace Cozy , I still can't believe you died so senselessly.
Omg I didn't know who Cozy was before seeing this, how very sad 😥 You are 💯 on how his death was so senseless 💔
@@sweetypie9711 break's my heart still thinking about it Sweety .
I shall never forget seeing him playing with Whitesnake back in the 80s. Cozy had such a commanding stage presence.
Always loved Cozy and his kick ass drumming! Truly one of the greats.😊 Rest in peace man.
Don't forget, Cozy was considered as a possible replacement for John Bonham in the Zeppelin tragedy however it was ruled out because they didn't want to continue without him, he also played on Robert Plant's first solo album.
Sad story, I'm from the 60's, rocknroll was an era, I still listen to the rock of my youth. Great music. RIP Cozy
Cozy Powell and Mick Tucker (Sweet) are still my favorite drummers...
YES!
Two of my favourites of all time also, they had that similar cool vibe and relaxed style.
Cozy Powell was an amazing drummer. The drum intro to Stargazer from Rainbow Rising speaks for itself. What an incredible drummer he was. He influenced so many others to become drummers. Long live Cozy Powell and bringing his drumming to the masses!
His legendary instrumental "Dance With the Devil" crossed over to the USA charts in 1974 and every year when April rolls around it starts playing in my head non stop. 50 years have now passed and it's still one of my favorite instrumentals.
Saw Cozy Powell's Bedlam in 74 opening for Sabbath on the Sabbath Bloody Sabbath tour. Phenomenal show.
Cozy is one of my favourite drummers of all time, first time I ever heard him was ‘dance with the devil’ from 1974, the B side of the top 10 single was called ‘then there was skin’ then a good friend of mine told me he had a n album called ‘Over the top’ in 1979, it blew me away and still does to this day. R.I.P Cozy your up there with the very best now.
I always felt a bit sorry for Cozy as he never seemed to stay with bands for long, but I think a lot of that was because he wanted what was best for himself. He was unbelievable with Whitesnake, really wish him Sykes and Murray had stayed in that band far longer.
Truly a great UK drummer. Cozy Powell RIP !
Such a big influence on this drummer. Cozy, Vinnie Appice and Phil Rudd are by far my biggest role models.
Now thats a trio of underrated feel and technically skilled players.
Karen Carpenter doesn't get a shout out ?
@@djshad1885How on earth are they "underrated"?
All of those dudes are famous drummers - if people know the name of the drummer - you're not underrated -
Yup same here, I started playing in 74 the 3 you mentioned are also my inspiration👍gotta ad Brian Downey(Thin Lizzy)
The best rock drummer, ever!
ya that would b JB
@@robertromanski43 Yes Sir!! That would be Led Zeppelin's John Henry Bonham for those sitting in the cheap seats.
Thanks so much for this run down of Cozy's life.
Definitely some amazing musicians mentioned here, absolute legends of rock. RIP Cozy, taken fat too soon mate.
Thank you so much for watching! 😁
Even though his work with Rainbow is my all time favorite, I also loved his work with Emerson, Lake, and Powell.
While in college in the late 1980's, I worked as a roadie for Emerson, Lake and Powell at the Opera House of Boston. (Powell was filling in for Carl Palmer) It was an epic show, watching the band from the wings. I think I must have the autographs somewhere...
He was NOT just ‘filling in’ for Carl. He was a full member of Emerson Lake and Powell.
😢 he'll be missed . Great drummer , remember him with Rainbow .
What a great drummer he was.To young to go.When he played with Rainbow I thought stargazer was one of the greatest drum pieces I ever heard.I wished I had seen him live. When Rainbow came to Australia in 1976.
I saw him with Richie’s Rainbow 🌈 and then with ELP that was a super talented show all superb talented 😮😮😮all equally talented band mates wow 🤩
My favorite rock drummer. Love him, miss him.
I'm so happy I got to see him perform. What a truly great drummer!
Cozy took it up a level in Emerson Lake and Powell....I didn't think he'd fit at all....but ended up wishing he'd done a couple more albums with them....
Wow. So sad this legend went too soon. Brilliant drummer.
Viewing this today…5th April 2024. RIP…🥲🥲
Cozy had a great Groove & Loving Spirit ! Miss You Brother.
One day in the mid 1980's Lemmy brought me and my bass guitar (fender precision special) to jam with Cozy and a guitarist playing at that time. Cozy stated that women bass players were useless and lacked the aggression and attention to the drummer, needed on the bass. So, I walked up to Cozy, reached across his kit and hit him hard on the head with my headstock. Unfortunately as i pulled back his middle tom caught my headstock and a tiny chip out of it. That tiny chip is there to this day. Cozy decide to play and was really impressed with me, and told Lemmy he was right - "she's the most aggressive bass player I've ever met other that YOU". Lemmy laughed and said to Cozy "well, I did warn you". Cozy laughed back and a said "I've never been actually physically attacked by a bass player, until now".
Wow. Cozy played with nearly every UK band back then. RIP.
Liked him, although being A Journeyman with many bands with different styles of music, he was always able to come up with a drumming style that managed to fit all of them. A Great Talent..
@@herbertvonzinderneuf8547 Not really certain as to what you mean by your comment. As Cozy was, other musicians were on the same page. Take Clapton for another example. These were guys who played in a lot of bands over their careers.
@@herbertvonzinderneuf8547 Thanks for informing me on the actual definition, however, I was close.
Such a loss!!
Always admired his work, only knew a fraction of the info presented in this video. Quite an impressive resume he had. Didn't know he died that way, just heard it was an accident. Terrible loss
😢
He was a great drummer. RIP Cozy xx
I knew of the man mostly as the drummer of some of Black Sabbath's later albums and first heard of his passing at the very end of a Black Sabbath documentary that I watched in 1999, think it was called ''Family Rock Trees''. It said that Cozy died in a car crash in 1998.
Not only a truly great drummer, but played with such attitude and style.
I grew up in Harwell Oxfordshire in the 60s, 70s 80s, I used to play up the Holloway track beyond Cozy Powells house, it was a very unassuming property which I remember had no garden to speak of, an odd place for someone so successful, the strange thing is I never saw him!!! I guess he was always away performing.
I used to chat to him in Waitrose in Wantage.
Cozy Powell was a unique drummer for sureMay he R.I.P.🙏🏻ROCK ON!!!!!!!🤘🏻🤙🏻✌🏻
He lived near me in the 80's and I'd often see him and have a chat in Wantage, he'd sometimes drive through the market place in his white Ferarri and give a wave to me and my mates in our leather jackets and long hair trying to be cool hanging around the town. The track 'up on the downs' refers to the hills all around where he lived including Lambourn.
RIP cozy missed never forgotten
Bless him, he had Demos of mine which he was considering, then he was gone in that car wreck, RIP.
Top 3 drummer in the 🌎. Rip Cozy 🙏
Saw Powell when he went on tour and recorded with Emerson and Lake....Helluva show!....Would have liked to seen more of that trio.
A friend of.mine who was really good friends with Jeff Beck told me once that he felt terrible about Cozy dying in this car which apparently he had sold to him
Understandable but driving at that speed over the limit and no seat belt was pushing it
@@andrewbowen6875Plus using a mobile phone while driving distracted him. All these things caused something that was preventable. He was a top drummer I've always admired and I still enjoy hearing.
Drummer on 2 Jeff Beck albums
R.I.P. Cozy... so sad...
Cozy Powell one of the best !!! RIP
What an absolute legend. Look at the surpeb bands he played in. Rainbow MSG Black Sabbath Whitesnake ✌
I remember going to see Black Sabbath on the Headless Cross tour at Sheffield City Hall, the drums played by Cozy were thunder, it was a fantastic gig.
Had the luck to see him with Rainbow and Michael Sckenker Group.
Me too!
There are some drummers who just ALWAYS put things in the right place! Cozy, Jimmy DeGrasso, Simon Phillips……there are many more but only a handful that stand out.
I seen rainbow here they been in our arena one man been there on many conserts told best concert was rainbow with cosy powell must say Bravissimo ☆☆☆☆☆
Он и Дио... это то, за что я до сих я слушаю Радугу..Спасибо вам за это..🤘🤘🤘
I think I got see him on the long live rock and roll tour💪💥🥁
I only got to see him perform twice, in 1984 with Whitesnake, and in 1993, when he was with Brian May, opening for Guns and Roses in Sacramento. Neither show was an ideal setting, as they were both opening bands, but at least I can say that I saw one the all-time greats.
After my personal top three group of classic rock drummers (Bonzo, Paice & Palmer), Cozy is in my next group of two (along with Alan White). RIP Cozy. His best work? Rainbow's Rising (side two in particular) and On Stage.
Thanks man for autograph
Fantastic drummer.
A great drummer who played with some of the greatest bands and musicians in all of rock music.
One of the best.
Cozy and his playing are so missed
What a groovy powerhouse drummer. Absolutely fantastic, on of the greatest ever!💓
So many of these stars met their end so tragically it's really unfortunate though they did leave some great music and memories if you were fortunate enough to see any of them perform
Brilliant drummer....
Uno de los grandes bateristas en paz fescanse😢
Amazing music career..a true Icon.
Rest Well Rocker..
My favorite drummer ❤😢 rip C.P.
I think he played on the best song on Robert Plant's 1st solo record.
Best bit of Cozy - Stargazer on Rainbow Rising 1976.

He’s got the Jeff Beck hair !! 😁

Confirmed
He rocks a mullet 😊
One of the all time greats 🥁
🤘😇🤘 Rest Easy
Amazing Career 🥁
Legend forever.
I saw him on the saints and sinners tour and met him back stage at a black Sabbath gig 97
Excellent work sir.
Speeding in bed weather while talking on the phone after having some drinks. How and why? Every decision you make greatly affects the rest of your life! It's very sad. This guy was a great drummer but he literally took each individual thing that you should not do when driving and put them all together. this is what happens when decisions are made emotionally.
Fab drummer he was.
Remembee exactly where i was even where i was stood , talking to a work colleague before work . Strange only other 1 same was phil Lynot
Seen Powell in e l p great show
excellent bio of one of my favorite drummers.

Mr. Colin "Cozy Powell" Trevor Flooks 🥁😢
Wow what a dude, respect my man
My favorite drummer he's the reason I picked up sticks took drum lessons
TRES Cool/Heavy!
Recommend anyone find the recording of The Jeff Beck Group Live at The Paris Theatre, featuring Jeff Beck (Guitar); Cozy Powell (Drums); Clive Chaman (Bass); Bobby Tench (Vocals and 2nd Guitar) ; Max Middleton (Piano & Electric Piano). Recorded to promote The Jeff Beck Group album release (Orange on cover). Occasional interruptions from DJ/MC Mike Harding (not the Lancashire Cowboy, a different Scottish Mike Harding). Amazing band. It's one of my favourite Jeff Beck recordings.
On stage de Rainbow ne serait pas On stage de Rainbow. Formidable Cozy Power
Still waiting for his official Cozy Powell Website…
Always been 1 of my favs
thought you would have brought up the fact that he was on Robert Plant's first solo album pictures at 11
