The reason why this drama deserves an award is because it is not your usual kdrama where the best looking lead gets the girl. This story is about what mostly happens in real life. When I watched the first season I was surprised on how shallow the plot was considering that Kim Soohyun stars in it.. then I learned there was a sequel and now, here we are. The story is deeper than what it seemed in the first season. Season 2 is not just about the “Love Alarm” anymore. This is about freely choosing what you want without societal pressure, dictating what you can and cannot do. This is standing up to your past, and embracing your reality...
As much as I loved Sun-oh, it was obvious that she downloaded the shield to protect herself from the pain. She took a while thinking about whether to download it or not after Duk-gu sent it to her. She knew that it was selfish but sometimes, you just got to be selfish for once. Then Hyeyeong came along. He seemed so safe to her that she wanted to lower her shield. That shield she built for protection was now something she wanted to take away just for him. That’s why she downloaded the spear. For Hyeyeong. She downloaded the shield for Sun-oh and downloaded the spear for Hyeyeong. She wanted to hide her feelings from one while she wanted to show her feelings to the other.
Same. I thought this is where I would smile with Sun-Oh. I would’ve cried so hard at this scene if Sun-Oh said “Look at me in the eye and say you don’t love me then I’ll believe you” lucky he didn’t, or else I would’ve been bawling my eyes out 😭

I really hated how she blamed him for the shield, because she made that decision to protect herself from her own insecurities. By blaming him she only made him feel bad once again instead of just being honest and give him a sincere explanation.
She didn't blame Sun Oh. She even said sorry to him about the shield a couple of times but Sun Oh just can't accept that Jojo is removing the shield for Hyeyeong. 💔

She did it because of her own fear and she didn’t fight for their relationship because she wasn’t in a good place and she said that. Jo Jo broke up with Sun Oh was not because she did not love him. she did. But Jo Jo could not face Sun Oh’s world and its complexities. It was so overwhelming for her. Thus, she decided to break up. In her high school girl mind, “breaking up now is better than later. Breaking up now will hurt less than breaking up later.” Well, she was wrong. By breaking up with Sun Oh, she hurted them both and the hurt lingered after years. The-four-years-later-Jo Jo realised this. That’s why she apologised to Sun Oh during their last meeting. But then why didnt Jo Jo go back with Sun Oh? Well because even four years later, Jo Jo still would not be able to deal with Sun Oh’s world. Also, because she loves Hye Yeong now. The-four-years-later-Jo Jo at first thought she could not love anyone anymore. But Hye Yeong with his warmth and care changed that. She fell in love with him at the night when she stayed at his house, and the love continues to grow. That’s why when the video of Sun Oh visiting her got viral, all she could think was how hurt Hye Yeong would be. She did not even think about getting back to Sun Oh. Heck, even when Jo Jo visited her school, all she could think was Hye Yeong. She said it herself to Sun Oh. The show also gives us *lots* of Hye Yeong’s flashback but no Sun Oh’s flashback. So actually LA2 is not about Jo Jo choosing between Sun Oh or Hye Yeong but about Jo Jo getting over her trauma and fixing her past mistakes. For those who want Sun Oh to be happy, I actually think that Sun Oh is happier with Yuk Jo now. Unlike Jo Jo who could not face Sun Oh’s world, Yuk Jo is mature and loving, and she could handle dining with Sun Oh’s family, seeing their arguments and the truth behind the loving facade, and she still able to maintain positive mindset. That shows how strong Yuk Jo is! Just because she is not the main female lead, it does not mean that she is less than Jo Jo. For Sun Oh, I think Yuk Jo is way better than Jo Jo, just the way for Jo Jo, Hye Yeong is better than Sun Oh. So, a perfect ending where everyone is happy!

This is true. Sun-oh just wasn’t “the one” for Jojo. If you really look deep, they were just puppy love. Hye-yeong and Jojo are soulmates. Things ran smoothly and effortlessly with no serious complications or drama. It was just that Jojo initially relied on the app to validate her feelings even when she was already sure of her own feelings that made a bit of complication in the drama. Lol. But other than that, they were both there for each other through thick and thin without giving much of a burden on each other. It was smooth. They were happy. Isn’t that what a soulmate is? Haha.

this is an original analysis i made in another comment section. feel free to read and give your own thoughts! i mean, if we go more into depth here, i’d say sun oh was a first love fueled with passion and interest. while hye yeong built a foundation on trust, patience, and maturity. i don’t think either one was forced- but i do believe one was better for jojo. sun oh pursued her because he wasn’t getting the attention he usually got with hye yeong. he wanted to see what was so great about her that his friend had such an infatuation/crush with jojo. and sun oh, knowing jojo didn’t ping his alarm, onto fueled his desire to get to know her because of the fact she wasn’t like every other girl showing interest. he usually got the attention; but with her, he didn’t. he pushed boundaries that someone shouldn’t have to cross. i.e- kissed her knowing she was in a relationship; trying to justify pursuing jojo by asking hye yeong countless times if he was interested, purposefully knowing the answer would be ‘no’. i think he knew what hye yeong would say because it would then mean he could still go after her. though, being a best friend, it wouldn’t take a second to realize that hye yeong was just saying such because jojo had a boyfriend. it was also alluded the probability (or at least hypothesized) that hye yeong knew his best friend usually got what he wanted otherwise, and in denying this, he wouldn’t pursue sun oh. albeit, he was wrong. it pegs the question if sun oh genuinely loved jojo in the depth the show tries to portray. there may be a mentality underlying his character that, if in a relationship with jojo, hye yeong wouldn’t leave him. that he’d be the center of both their worlds. he may even have planned that, being with jojo, hye yeong would stop pursuing her. which, he did (to an extent). through this, he may have confused being possessive of her with being in love with her and that she was protecting him. i think he loved her. but wasn’t in love with her. he wasn’t afraid to be selfish, and the dynamic with jojo and sun oh were complex in a beautiful way- but also in an ugly way as well. their influence with each other, i’d say, wouldn’t be the greatest. jojo continuously ran from problems instead of facing them, while sun oh continuously failed to realize the fault in their love and the wrong behind his first intentions. hye yeong wanted jojo to be happy. he left her with her boyfriend. it wouldn’t be a lie to say he hoped for a break off because he most probably did. he wanted to wait until it was the right time to pursue her instead of rushing. this may also peg the question if he was cowardly; yes, he was cowardly compared to sun oh’s actions. but i also think it’s because of his virtuous thoughts and reasoning. he wanted to cause less of a risk with jojo feelings. he didn’t want to hinder her or pressure her; hence, he’d rather collectively confront her in small instances or patiently wait for her to approach him instead. he, instead of fighting, let jojo and sun oh be together without much interference or objection. because she was happy. then, when he does begin to pursue her, sun oh does in fact begin to get hypocritical. he shuns his best friend to going after someone he grew affection of- but, at the same time, he did so too. sun oh is just more vocal than hye yeong. even still, season two covered the difficult in getting over one’s first love. even love in general is hard to overcome when strong feelings are still there. yet, hye yeong still waited. this time, we see him grow a little more confident and sure of himself while sun oh is isolated and left in self reflection- and so is jojo. both are shown to be moving on while also reevaluating one’s self and each other. i think this caused a beautiful, bittersweet ending. because jojo found a relationship that let her be calm, not pressured, and with someone who takes into consideration her feelings over his own. hye yeong was able to grow stronger and courageous enough to take more risk than he did in season one. and sun oh was my favorite. he said he’d be okay. he’ll figure it out. because he will. he’ll learn that he won’t be the center of their world as they can’t be his. they’re just people living in a universe full of other people. his character development was my favorite. i don’t think the directors made him pitiful. instead i think they made him more self aware and conscious. not fully, but a bit. (i didn’t mention the stalking because both of them, in fact, stalked jojo) note: apologies if anyone hates reading this form of analysis. i just love digging into shows.
I needed a recap on the first season. And you’ve done it beautifully. I can end this kdrama with a good goodbye. It was bittersweet like you said. And Sun oh’s character development isn’t sour in my mouth anymore thank you for clearing up stuff for me to see it better. I can truly appreciate the story now.

I feel jojo is really guilty about hurting sun-oh’s feelings. That she couldn’t give him a good enough reason why she broke up with him. She just fell out of love. That was just it and she couldn’t explain why. 😔 I remember the car scene when Sun-oh kept telling her that she still likes him. She just said, “I was still immature back then. I was the one who broke your trust. How could I still like you?” It wasn’t her trying to conceal her feelings. She just didn’t like him as much anymore and was already starting to feel something for Hye-yeong. That’s why she said she’d give Hye-yeong a chance. That’s one of the cruelties in real life. You can’t force someone to love you or stay with you. 🤷🏻♀️
I agree with you! I don't know why people keep saying that Jojo should give a reason when in reality sometimes people do not have a proper reason for a breakup, especially if they were teens. Sometimes people break up not because of the other person's wrong doings, but it's just part of life. We were young and we will grow and gaps will be made.

That‘s not the reason why she chose Hye-yeong. Jojo Never really told Sun-oh why she broke up with him that’s why he thought she still loved him but was scared to love him. Also jojo told him that she will never love someone like she did Sun-oh.

Then she started publishing it again around Feb 2020 after the resurgence of its popularity from the Netflix Originals and still on going.
Unpopular opinion here, but Sunoh's character needs to grow up and I'm grateful jojo didn't end up with him. And yes, I was rooting for him starting this season, but my opinion changed drastically. He is so stuck in the past and needs to let jojo go. It's been _years_ and yet he's still holding onto a love that was from when they were mere adolescents. Everyone else has moved on, and he needs to too. Jojo has grown and is in a relationship. They're different people. Sunoh is so caught up with who jojo was and what they had that he fails to see that life isn't the same. He needs to take a hint. Jojo has told him so many times that her choice is hyeyong and yet he still continues to pursue her like a child that can't get what he wants. Even when he *spoiler* ran after jojo in that classroom, hyeyong pointed out that the only thing he could focus on was what _he_ wanted, not at all about how it would affect jojo. It shows that he's too focused on what he wants instead of her. If he truly loved her, he would have respected her, her choice, and her relationship instead of continuously pursuing her and making her uncomfortable despite her requests not to.

Felt so bad for Sun Oh. Though he understood Jojo in the end, still, I was expecting for a proper and clear explanation coming from Jojo herself. She's so tongue-tied and I really hated her for that. I understand her trauma and she's emotional but what the heck is wrong of explaining things instead of hitting around the bush?? Though I'm team Hyeyeong, I can't blame Sun Oh why he got stuck from the past and can't move forward... and that's bcoz there were many things that he's clueless about. How could he even move on and love Yuk Jo back if there were some questions running in his mind and there's no vivid explanation? Everything that he understood was just discovered by himself: (1) by realizing that Jojo really fell for Hyeyeong when Jojo said that she could only think of HY when SO went to her campus, (2) by finding out that her mom met Jojo bfore their breakup--which is still quite unclear for me, and (3) by just looking and reading The Ringing World's illustrations and their captions. Though it's vague, stil crossing my fingers for a 3rd season---a season which would unfold the things that are not answered completely and ofc, for Sun Oh's arcs showing his growing relationship with Yuk Jo. This is what I hope for.

Dude... Sunoh and Jojo had the best chemistry. Sunoh was so sweet to her. They were a beautiful couple at the time and viewers couldn’t let it go when season two came around. It’s not that hard of a concept to grasp. He went after his bf’s crush. Yeah that happened but he ended up truly liking her. As for Yukjo, he really wanted to move on and he tried. He couldn’t and so they broke up but after he got closure from Jojo, went to her everyday and wanted to like her back. He’s a good guy in a tough situation. His childhood was kinda messed up and his bf left him for his ex. Sure, in him and hyeyeong’s relationship he received more than gave but it doesn’t mean he didn’t care about hyeyeong. Like in the fight, Sunoh only started hitting back after Hyeyeong got hit. Logically, he wasn’t the best choice, but from the viewer’s POV, he was a really cute guy to loved his gf and got his heart broken without explanation. Kinda get it now?

I just happen to sympathize with Jojo alot more The reason Jojo doesn't give him a reason is because the truth of their breakup largely involves her trauma where she endured as a kid growing up having survived a mass suicide weighing down on her...along with emotional abuse from her cousin and aunt coupled with the weight that would come from loving Sun-ho *And couple all that with Sun-ho repeatedly forcing her into uncomfortable situations like this* and *NO ONE* i repeat *NO ONE* is entitled to know someone elses trauma. She doesn't even tell Hye-yeong about her trauma (Although he secretly knew already in S1) but hye-yeong could already tell by then that she was damaged and needed space which is WHY HE WAS SO PATIENT. Hye-yeong understood that there was a deep pain in Jojo and it wasn't going to go away just by forcing it. So its incredibly frustrating that Sun-ho is just Bulldozing ahead with such force to find the truth when he isn't entitled to know such things...but also Sun-ho's upbringing perfectly explains WHY he is so blinded by his own insecurities and continues to cross boundaries without knowing. For Sun-ho, his reasons for being so unwilling to accept a no is because of his own trauma in his upbringing. Sun-ho CRAVES validation because he feels that no one has ever truly loved him and thus has MASSIVE insecurity problems. So now that the app has provided assured love...it takes away his insecurity ....now that it was taken from him by Jojo for her own reasons...he can't accept it when before it was all fine. He doesn't have enough hindsight to realise that her reason must've been serious. Sun-ho can only then focus on HIS feelings. But he also doesn't understand that he continually crosses MAJOR boundaries. But even after all that i still on Jojo's side. Even understanding Sun-ho's frustration....he's literally just forcing her into these situations without once thinking what its doing to Jojo. I think what Jojo says about *You were the reason i installed the shield but Hye-yeong makes me want to remove it* that's the most perfect way to describe Jojo's headspace... Jojo was finally ready to *GIVE* love. And Sun-ho couldn't accept that the love she was giving out just wasn't for him.
Well, I sympathize with both but Jojo is really just tongue-tied. She got over with Sun Oh, yes, but why is it still so hard for her to explain things clearly that he would pester her as much as this? Bcoz she gets emotional? He, too, is emotional. Cut the crap. Though I dislike Sun Oh too, Jojo is also at fault. Both of them don't give properly what the other needs. First, Sun Oh's bounderies to her. Second, Jojo's clear explanation to him.

I'm so disappointed with what the writer did to jojo's character. He/she made her so selfish. Sun oh just wants an explanation for their break up but she couldn't even gave him that. I think it would be better if she didn't end up with anyone. An ending where the 3 of them move on from the past and grow individually might be a better ending
But Sun Oh gets the best in Yuk Jo though. She is beautiful, independent, popular, rich, classy... The best is: Yuk Jo loves Sun Oh and can accept his whole world. Jo Jo can’t.

As a viewer, I'm not convinced that Kim doesn't love sun-oh anymore..i can really feel and see it in her eyes how they long for each other for how many years..and then suddenly, she realized it was the other guy...i don't know but i feel the pain of sun-oh..it so unfair!!😥😥hopefully there will be a love alarm 3🙏🙏i really love it but is the end that i don't like!!!
i’m not saying that one is better than the other out of sun-oh and hye-yeong because they’re both great and they’re both flawed and extremely complex characters. they both have their own traumas, and in order to understand what happened we need to understand jojo first. when she met sun-oh, jojo didn’t love herself. and how could she? for her entire life she had blamed herself for her parents’ death. when she moved to seoul, gul-mi and her aunt abused and manipulated her and she was burdened with the obligation of her grandmother’s care. keep in mind that she was literally a child through all of this. when you don’t love yourself, you can’t understand why anyone else would want to love you either. and when you don’t love yourself, you place the person you love on a higher pedestal than yourself. jojo really loved sun-oh. the way she smiled and her happiness around him is unmatched to the way she is with hye-yeong. now, i’ve seen people saying that sun-oh was a fiery, passionate love and hye-yeong is the mature guy who’s best to settle down with. but i kind of disagree with what that statement holds. it is true that jojo and sun-oh’s dynamic was passionate, but he wasn’t inconsiderate or entirely selfish. everyone is selfish, even hye-yeong. sun-oh always stood up for jojo, he cared about her so much and always showed it. he wasn’t just flirty, he was serious. sure, at first his interest was fuelled by ego, but eventually he did fall for her. the happiness on his face with jojo is unmatched. have you seen sun-oh with yuk-jo? it’s heartbreaking how lifeless he is. when he was with jojo, he was sincere with everything he did. he liked her so much that doing things for her was an instinct. whereas with yuk-jo he has to stand back and ask himself how he can be a better boyfriend. hell, his smiles don’t even shine radiantly. everything looks forced. another thing is that at first jojo and sun-oh fell in love with each other, which is different from loving each other. falling in love is uncontrollable (kind of what you could call a crush), but loving someone is a choice (it’s long term and takes a long time to happen). if jojo wanted to, she could’ve loved sun-oh. she could’ve opened up to him about her fears and insecurities, because sun-oh clearly wanted to love her. he wanted to know more about her. in the first half of season 1 you can see that sun-oh interest isn’t selfish. sun-oh was not immature. i can see how some people might think that but he always did his best to understand what jojo told him about her trauma and tried to help her heal (as much as he could). to some extent, it is jojo’s fault for the way she and sun-oh ended. after all, sun-oh can’t just read her mind and know instantly that she feels small around him because she doesn’t know how to love herself. no matter how charming sun-oh was, no matter how much he cared for her, it wouldn’t matter if she couldn’t care about herself. yes, dealing with trauma is extremely difficult, it takes years, but she and sun-oh could’ve navigated all of that together. it’s not like he wouldn’t understand; she just never gave him a chance. even if jojo really wanted to end it, not only because of insecurities and trauma, she should’ve communicated it to him. yes, she isn’t obliged to, but if she truly cared about his well-being, she would! you can’t just leave someone in the dark after changing your mind overnight. you don’t do that to people. sun-oh deserves an explanation. now for hye-yeong. he is a very kind person. and yeah, at first he was a bit creepy, but he’s always been good to jojo as well. when i saw hye-yeong and jojo’s relationship building, it felt one-sided. their dynamic feels forced because jojo doesn’t seem like she ‘loves’ him, it’s more like she feels thankful to him. when someone clearly cares for you and is so kind to you (because the world lacks quite a bit of that), you’re obviously bound to feel thankful. i think jojo’s feelings for hye-yeong, at first at least, were “maybe i should give him a try because he’s a really good person”. jojo probably wouldn’t be able to handle the guilt of breaking another good person’s heart, so she gave him a try. hye-yeong kind of entered in a more mature stage of jojo’s life. she wasn’t quite over her traumas, but she was learning to better handle them. he was sacrificing himself just to have her around them. he was kind of a doormat, which can easily shift into a toxic dynamic. that’s not healthy either. jojo’s smiles around hye-yeong felt forced. she did ring his love alarm using the spear, which symbolized her own volition, but it still felt like she was running away from her feelings for sun-oh. she probably felt that it wasn’t fair to hye-yeong if he was giving her his all and receiving nothing. in a way, jojo was sacrificing herself. also, hye-yeong got with jojo despite sun-oh warning him, which was clearly his way of telling hye-yeong that he’s still in love with jojo. perhaps that was hye-yeong’s way of getting back at sun-oh for what e did in high-school (?). but it doesn’t sit right with me that a friend as loyal as hye-yeong would do that to his childhood best friend. it feels wrong. and he justified it with “i told you, i’m still in love with jojo”. like, okay? that’s not a good enough excuse. after all, hye-yeong did continuously deny his crush on her back in school. it was almost as if he was saying that he’s okay with sun-oh getting together with her, whereas sun-oh is clearly saying that he’s not okay with it. oof that was long, feel free to debate! thanks for reading :))
This one seems to bring out her true emotions. The other one is easy love she hides behind him. For crying out loud she cannot even kiss the guy she claims to like. Yet the one i think she likes she keeps on running away from him. Hope she will stop running and face her true fillings. Its like it is so hard for her to move forward .................. well its drama :)
I think during the scene when Hye Yeong tried to kiss her and she moved back, at that time she had not love him. She was going out with him but not able to love him yet. If you watch the ending, it shows that Jo Jo started to love Hye Yeong after that scene. However, I don’t think she still loves Sun Oh during the whole season 2. Even at early episode, when she went to their school, all she remembered was Hye Yeong. She was feeling guilty to Sun Oh, she knew she hurted him. Yet she could not be able to convey her feelings and apologise properly to Sun Oh. She did apologise properly eventually, though. Both Jo Jo and Sun Oh finally moved on.
Maybe when Hye Yeong tried to kiss her she wasn't ready or she was afraid that she'll hurt him because she was didn't ring his alarm and besides, kisses aren't the only way to express love
Duk Gu said if Love Alarm ver. 2 didn’t exist JoJo will not change her heart. People will only love specific person who’s shown by the love alarm attraction list.
Now I understand why the review rating of this drama is poor(3.5). I find it annoying that this girl Jojo suddenly fell out of love with Sunho(without valid reasons), whom she loved so much and easily fall in love with Hye Jeong, the best friend of Sunho. Goodness, so disgusting!
The character Song Kang plays is quite sad. Yea, he was pretty inconsiderate and forceful towards Jojo in season 2. I never really liked how they came to be a couple in season 1 (the kiss while she was dating another, him knowing his friend likes her but still pursues) but their chemistry was cute. Just sad because he never knew why Jojo all of a sudden dropped him without an explanation. All because she thought she was doing him a favor- for the sake of his future based on what his rich parents wanted. Then his friend goes on to make a move on her years after. Why they gotta do a story about besties liking the same girl 😭 Sure, he liked her first but his azz never made a move til later after his friend’s relationship with her fails!? And knowing what his friend went through!? Then the girl falls for the friend. 🤦🏻♀️ It makes sense that the ending couple was meant to be but how they came to be was irritating. This drama is a dumpster fire.
HONESTLY. it’s so hard to watch because it’s so heartbreaking to think of. the way jojo and sun-oh became a couple was a bit… yeah, but they felt right together. everything was mutual between them. but then hye-yeong makes a move as soon as she’s available… wth? that didn’t sit right with me. just everything from jojo unfairly making a choice for her and sun-oh’s future and afterward was terrible.

The reason why this drama deserves an award is because it is not your usual kdrama where the best looking lead gets the girl. This story is about what mostly happens in real life. When I watched the first season I was surprised on how shallow the plot was considering that Kim Soohyun stars in it.. then I learned there was a sequel and now, here we are. The story is deeper than what it seemed in the first season. Season 2 is not just about the “Love Alarm” anymore. This is about freely choosing what you want without societal pressure, dictating what you can and cannot do. This is standing up to your past, and embracing your reality...
Kim So Hyun really nailed her character. She showed how Jo Jo changed from a traumatic girl into an accepting woman. She’s brilliant.

As much as I loved Sun-oh, it was obvious that she downloaded the shield to protect herself from the pain. She took a while thinking about whether to download it or not after Duk-gu sent it to her. She knew that it was selfish but sometimes, you just got to be selfish for once. Then Hyeyeong came along. He seemed so safe to her that she wanted to lower her shield. That shield she built for protection was now something she wanted to take away just for him. That’s why she downloaded the spear. For Hyeyeong. She downloaded the shield for Sun-oh and downloaded the spear for Hyeyeong. She wanted to hide her feelings from one while she wanted to show her feelings to the other.

Jo Jo broke up with Sun Oh was not because she did not love him. she did. But Jo Jo could not face Sun Oh’s world and its complexities. It was so overwhelming for her. Thus, she decided to break up. In her high school girl mind, “breaking up now is better than later. Breaking up now will hurt less than breaking up later.”
Well, she was wrong. By breaking up with Sun Oh, she hurted them both and the hurt lingered after years. The-four-years-later-Jo Jo realised this. That’s why she apologised to Sun Oh during their last meeting.
But then why didnt Jo Jo go back with Sun Oh?
Well because even four years later, Jo Jo still would not be able to deal with Sun Oh’s world.
Also, because she loves Hye Yeong now.
The-four-years-later-Jo Jo at first thought she could not love anyone anymore. But Hye Yeong with his warmth and care changed that. She fell in love with him at the night when she stayed at his house, and the love continues to grow. That’s why when the video of Sun Oh visiting her got viral, all she could think was how hurt Hye Yeong would be. She did not even think about getting back to Sun Oh. Heck, even when Jo Jo visited her school, all she could think was Hye Yeong. She said it herself to Sun Oh. The show also gives us *lots* of Hye Yeong’s flashback but no Sun Oh’s flashback.
So actually LA2 is not about Jo Jo choosing between Sun Oh or Hye Yeong but about Jo Jo getting over her trauma and fixing her past mistakes.
For those who want Sun Oh to be happy, I actually think that Sun Oh is happier with Yuk Jo now. Unlike Jo Jo who could not face Sun Oh’s world, Yuk Jo is mature and loving, and she could handle dining with Sun Oh’s family, seeing their arguments and the truth behind the loving facade, and she still able to maintain positive mindset. That shows how strong Yuk Jo is! Just because she is not the main female lead, it does not mean that she is less than Jo Jo.
For Sun Oh, I think Yuk Jo is way better than Jo Jo, just the way for Jo Jo, Hye Yeong is better than Sun Oh. So, a perfect ending where everyone is happy!

This is true. Sun-oh just wasn’t “the one” for Jojo. If you really look deep, they were just puppy love.
Hye-yeong and Jojo are soulmates. Things ran smoothly and effortlessly with no serious complications or drama. It was just that Jojo initially relied on the app to validate her feelings even when she was already sure of her own feelings that made a bit of complication in the drama. Lol. But other than that, they were both there for each other through thick and thin without giving much of a burden on each other. It was smooth. They were happy. Isn’t that what a soulmate is? Haha.

i mean, if we go more into depth here, i’d say sun oh was a first love fueled with passion and interest. while hye yeong built a foundation on trust, patience, and maturity. i don’t think either one was forced- but i do believe one was better for jojo.
sun oh pursued her because he wasn’t getting the attention he usually got with hye yeong. he wanted to see what was so great about her that his friend had such an infatuation/crush with jojo.
and sun oh, knowing jojo didn’t ping his alarm, onto fueled his desire to get to know her because of the fact she wasn’t like every other girl showing interest. he usually got the attention; but with her, he didn’t. he pushed boundaries that someone shouldn’t have to cross. i.e- kissed her knowing she was in a relationship; trying to justify pursuing jojo by asking hye yeong countless times if he was interested, purposefully knowing the answer would be ‘no’. i think he knew what hye yeong would say because it would then mean he could still go after her. though, being a best friend, it wouldn’t take a second to realize that hye yeong was just saying such because jojo had a boyfriend. it was also alluded the probability (or at least hypothesized) that hye yeong knew his best friend usually got what he wanted otherwise, and in denying this, he wouldn’t pursue sun oh. albeit, he was wrong.
it pegs the question if sun oh genuinely loved jojo in the depth the show tries to portray. there may be a mentality underlying his character that, if in a relationship with jojo, hye yeong wouldn’t leave him. that he’d be the center of both their worlds. he may even have planned that, being with jojo, hye yeong would stop pursuing her. which, he did (to an extent). through this, he may have confused being possessive of her with being in love with her and that she was protecting him.
i think he loved her. but wasn’t in love with her. he wasn’t afraid to be selfish, and the dynamic with jojo and sun oh were complex in a beautiful way- but also in an ugly way as well. their influence with each other, i’d say, wouldn’t be the greatest. jojo continuously ran from problems instead of facing them, while sun oh continuously failed to realize the fault in their love and the wrong behind his first intentions.
hye yeong wanted jojo to be happy. he left her with her boyfriend. it wouldn’t be a lie to say he hoped for a break off because he most probably did. he wanted to wait until it was the right time to pursue her instead of rushing. this may also peg the question if he was cowardly; yes, he was cowardly compared to sun oh’s actions. but i also think it’s because of his virtuous thoughts and reasoning. he wanted to cause less of a risk with jojo feelings. he didn’t want to hinder her or pressure her; hence, he’d rather collectively confront her in small instances or patiently wait for her to approach him instead. he, instead of fighting, let jojo and sun oh be together without much interference or objection. because she was happy.
then, when he does begin to pursue her, sun oh does in fact begin to get hypocritical. he shuns his best friend to going after someone he grew affection of- but, at the same time, he did so too. sun oh is just more vocal than hye yeong.
even still, season two covered the difficult in getting over one’s first love. even love in general is hard to overcome when strong feelings are still there. yet, hye yeong still waited. this time, we see him grow a little more confident and sure of himself while sun oh is isolated and left in self reflection- and so is jojo. both are shown to be moving on while also reevaluating one’s self and each other. i think this caused a beautiful, bittersweet ending. because jojo found a relationship that let her be calm, not pressured, and with someone who takes into consideration her feelings over his own. hye yeong was able to grow stronger and courageous enough to take more risk than he did in season one.
and sun oh was my favorite. he said he’d be okay. he’ll figure it out. because he will. he’ll learn that he won’t be the center of their world as they can’t be his. they’re just people living in a universe full of other people. his character development was my favorite. i don’t think the directors made him pitiful. instead i think they made him more self aware and conscious. not fully, but a bit.

I feel bad that he never got the closure he needed, but I'll never be over the truth that she gave him (as much as it hurt him): Sun Oh was the reason she installed the shield, and Hye Yeong is the reason she wants it gone.
Exactly! As much as I loved Sun-oh, it was obvious that she downloaded the shield to protect herself from the pain. She took a while thinking about whether to download it or not after Duk-gu sent it to her. She knew that it was selfish but sometimes, you just got to be selfish for once. Then Hyeyeong came along. He seemed so safe to her that she wanted to lower her shield. That shield she built for protection was now something she wanted to take away just for him. That’s why she downloaded the spear. For Hyeyeong. She downloaded the shield for Sun-oh and downloaded the spear for Hyeyeong. She wanted to hide her feelings from one while she wanted to show her feelings to the other.
He kept pushing her to love him. I like hye yeong more because he waited for her to love hime back, not pushing.
I feel jojo is really guilty about hurting sun-oh’s feelings. That she couldn’t give him a good enough reason why she broke up with him. She just fell out of love. That was just it and she couldn’t explain why. 😔 I remember the car scene when Sun-oh kept telling her that she still likes him. She just said, “I was still immature back then. I was the one who broke your trust. How could I still like you?”
It wasn’t her trying to conceal her feelings. She just didn’t like him as much anymore and was already starting to feel something for Hye-yeong. That’s why she said she’d give Hye-yeong a chance. That’s one of the cruelties in real life. You can’t force someone to love you or stay with you. 🤷🏻♀️
I agree with you! I don't know why people keep saying that Jojo should give a reason when in reality sometimes people do not have a proper reason for a breakup, especially if they were teens. Sometimes people break up not because of the other person's wrong doings, but it's just part of life. We were young and we will grow and gaps will be made.

Unpopular opinion here, but Sunoh's character needs to grow up and I'm grateful jojo didn't end up with him. And yes, I was rooting for him starting this season, but my opinion changed drastically. He is so stuck in the past and needs to let jojo go. It's been _years_ and yet he's still holding onto a love that was from when they were mere adolescents. Everyone else has moved on, and he needs to too. Jojo has grown and is in a relationship. They're different people. Sunoh is so caught up with who jojo was and what they had that he fails to see that life isn't the same.
He needs to take a hint. Jojo has told him so many times that her choice is hyeyong and yet he still continues to pursue her like a child that can't get what he wants. Even when he *spoiler*
ran after jojo in that classroom, hyeyong pointed out that the only thing he could focus on was what _he_ wanted, not at all about how it would affect jojo. It shows that he's too focused on what he wants instead of her.
If he truly loved her, he would have respected her, her choice, and her relationship instead of continuously pursuing her and making her uncomfortable despite her requests not to.
Exactly and not to forget he himself is in a relationship...Even tho he was pursuing jojo he kept yuk jo as her backup plan that's why I dunno he wasn't breaking up with her 😪 ppl are saying the makers did sun oh dirty in this season but the truth is he's always cared about himself first like when he payed for JoJo's school lunch and one time he even asked his driver to do JoJo's part time job instead of her .. He always putted jojo in difficult situations.

Felt so bad for Sun Oh. Though he understood Jojo in the end, still, I was expecting for a proper and clear explanation coming from Jojo herself. She's so tongue-tied and I really hated her for that. I understand her trauma and she's emotional but what the heck is wrong of explaining things instead of hitting around the bush??
Though I'm team Hyeyeong, I can't blame Sun Oh why he got stuck from the past and can't move forward... and that's bcoz there were many things that he's clueless about. How could he even move on and love Yuk Jo back if there were some questions running in his mind and there's no vivid explanation? Everything that he understood was just discovered by himself: (1) by realizing that Jojo really fell for Hyeyeong when Jojo said that she could only think of HY when SO went to her campus, (2) by finding out that her mom met Jojo bfore their breakup--which is still quite unclear for me, and (3) by just looking and reading The Ringing World's illustrations and their captions.
Though it's vague, stil crossing my fingers for a 3rd season---a season which would unfold the things that are not answered completely and ofc, for Sun Oh's arcs showing his growing relationship with Yuk Jo. This is what I hope for.

Dude... Sunoh and Jojo had the best chemistry. Sunoh was so sweet to her. They were a beautiful couple at the time and viewers couldn’t let it go when season two came around. It’s not that hard of a concept to grasp. He went after his bf’s crush. Yeah that happened but he ended up truly liking her. As for Yukjo, he really wanted to move on and he tried. He couldn’t and so they broke up but after he got closure from Jojo, went to her everyday and wanted to like her back. He’s a good guy in a tough situation. His childhood was kinda messed up and his bf left him for his ex. Sure, in him and hyeyeong’s relationship he received more than gave but it doesn’t mean he didn’t care about hyeyeong. Like in the fight, Sunoh only started hitting back after Hyeyeong got hit. Logically, he wasn’t the best choice, but from the viewer’s POV, he was a really cute guy to loved his gf and got his heart broken without explanation. Kinda get it now?

The reason Jojo doesn't give him a reason is because the truth of their breakup largely involves her trauma where she endured as a kid growing up having survived a mass suicide weighing down on her...along with emotional abuse from her cousin and aunt coupled with the weight that would come from loving Sun-ho *And couple all that with Sun-ho repeatedly forcing her into uncomfortable situations like this* and *NO ONE* i repeat *NO ONE* is entitled to know someone elses trauma. She doesn't even tell Hye-yeong about her trauma (Although he secretly knew already in S1) but hye-yeong could already tell by then that she was damaged and needed space which is WHY HE WAS SO PATIENT. Hye-yeong understood that there was a deep pain in Jojo and it wasn't going to go away just by forcing it.
So its incredibly frustrating that Sun-ho is just Bulldozing ahead with such force to find the truth when he isn't entitled to know such things...but also Sun-ho's upbringing perfectly explains WHY he is so blinded by his own insecurities and continues to cross boundaries without knowing.
For Sun-ho, his reasons for being so unwilling to accept a no is because of his own trauma in his upbringing. Sun-ho CRAVES validation because he feels that no one has ever truly loved him and thus has MASSIVE insecurity problems. So now that the app has provided assured love...it takes away his insecurity ....now that it was taken from him by Jojo for her own reasons...he can't accept it when before it was all fine. He doesn't have enough hindsight to realise that her reason must've been serious. Sun-ho can only then focus on HIS feelings. But he also doesn't understand that he continually crosses MAJOR boundaries.
But even after all that i still on Jojo's side. Even understanding Sun-ho's frustration....he's literally just forcing her into these situations without once thinking what its doing to Jojo.
I think what Jojo says about *You were the reason i installed the shield but Hye-yeong makes me want to remove it* that's the most perfect way to describe Jojo's headspace...
Jojo was finally ready to *GIVE* love. And Sun-ho couldn't accept that the love she was giving out just wasn't for him.

i’m not saying that one is better than the other out of sun-oh and hye-yeong because they’re both great and they’re both flawed and extremely complex characters. they both have their own traumas, and in order to understand what happened we need to understand jojo first.
when she met sun-oh, jojo didn’t love herself. and how could she? for her entire life she had blamed herself for her parents’ death. when she moved to seoul, gul-mi and her aunt abused and manipulated her and she was burdened with the obligation of her grandmother’s care. keep in mind that she was literally a child through all of this. when you don’t love yourself, you can’t understand why anyone else would want to love you either. and when you don’t love yourself, you place the person you love on a higher pedestal than yourself.
jojo really loved sun-oh. the way she smiled and her happiness around him is unmatched to the way she is with hye-yeong. now, i’ve seen people saying that sun-oh was a fiery, passionate love and hye-yeong is the mature guy who’s best to settle down with. but i kind of disagree with what that statement holds. it is true that jojo and sun-oh’s dynamic was passionate, but he wasn’t inconsiderate or entirely selfish. everyone is selfish, even hye-yeong. sun-oh always stood up for jojo, he cared about her so much and always showed it. he wasn’t just flirty, he was serious. sure, at first his interest was fuelled by ego, but eventually he did fall for her. the happiness on his face with jojo is unmatched. have you seen sun-oh with yuk-jo? it’s heartbreaking how lifeless he is. when he was with jojo, he was sincere with everything he did. he liked her so much that doing things for her was an instinct. whereas with yuk-jo he has to stand back and ask himself how he can be a better boyfriend. hell, his smiles don’t even shine radiantly. everything looks forced.
another thing is that at first jojo and sun-oh fell in love with each other, which is different from loving each other. falling in love is uncontrollable (kind of what you could call a crush), but loving someone is a choice (it’s long term and takes a long time to happen). if jojo wanted to, she could’ve loved sun-oh. she could’ve opened up to him about her fears and insecurities, because sun-oh clearly wanted to love her. he wanted to know more about her. in the first half of season 1 you can see that sun-oh interest isn’t selfish. sun-oh was not immature. i can see how some people might think that but he always did his best to understand what jojo told him about her trauma and tried to help her heal (as much as he could).
to some extent, it is jojo’s fault for the way she and sun-oh ended. after all, sun-oh can’t just read her mind and know instantly that she feels small around him because she doesn’t know how to love herself. no matter how charming sun-oh was, no matter how much he cared for her, it wouldn’t matter if she couldn’t care about herself. yes, dealing with trauma is extremely difficult, it takes years, but she and sun-oh could’ve navigated all of that together. it’s not like he wouldn’t understand; she just never gave him a chance.
even if jojo really wanted to end it, not only because of insecurities and trauma, she should’ve communicated it to him. yes, she isn’t obliged to, but if she truly cared about his well-being, she would! you can’t just leave someone in the dark after changing your mind overnight. you don’t do that to people. sun-oh deserves an explanation.
now for hye-yeong. he is a very kind person. and yeah, at first he was a bit creepy, but he’s always been good to jojo as well. when i saw hye-yeong and jojo’s relationship building, it felt one-sided. their dynamic feels forced because jojo doesn’t seem like she ‘loves’ him, it’s more like she feels thankful to him. when someone clearly cares for you and is so kind to you (because the world lacks quite a bit of that), you’re obviously bound to feel thankful. i think jojo’s feelings for hye-yeong, at first at least, were “maybe i should give him a try because he’s a really good person”. jojo probably wouldn’t be able to handle the guilt of breaking another good person’s heart, so she gave him a try.
hye-yeong kind of entered in a more mature stage of jojo’s life. she wasn’t quite over her traumas, but she was learning to better handle them. he was sacrificing himself just to have her around them. he was kind of a doormat, which can easily shift into a toxic dynamic. that’s not healthy either. jojo’s smiles around hye-yeong felt forced. she did ring his love alarm using the spear, which symbolized her own volition, but it still felt like she was running away from her feelings for sun-oh. she probably felt that it wasn’t fair to hye-yeong if he was giving her his all and receiving nothing. in a way, jojo was sacrificing herself.
also, hye-yeong got with jojo despite sun-oh warning him, which was clearly his way of telling hye-yeong that he’s still in love with jojo. perhaps that was hye-yeong’s way of getting back at sun-oh for what e did in high-school (?). but it doesn’t sit right with me that a friend as loyal as hye-yeong would do that to his childhood best friend. it feels wrong. and he justified it with “i told you, i’m still in love with jojo”. like, okay? that’s not a good enough excuse. after all, hye-yeong did continuously deny his crush on her back in school. it was almost as if he was saying that he’s okay with sun-oh getting together with her, whereas sun-oh is clearly saying that he’s not okay with it.

This one seems to bring out her true emotions. The other one is easy love she hides behind him. For crying out loud she cannot even kiss the guy she claims to like. Yet the one i think she likes she keeps on running away from him. Hope she will stop running and face her true fillings. Its like it is so hard for her to move forward .................. well its drama :)
I think during the scene when Hye Yeong tried to kiss her and she moved back, at that time she had not love him. She was going out with him but not able to love him yet. If you watch the ending, it shows that Jo Jo started to love Hye Yeong after that scene.
However, I don’t think she still loves Sun Oh during the whole season 2. Even at early episode, when she went to their school, all she remembered was Hye Yeong.
She was feeling guilty to Sun Oh, she knew she hurted him. Yet she could not be able to convey her feelings and apologise properly to Sun Oh.
She did apologise properly eventually, though. Both Jo Jo and Sun Oh finally moved on.
Maybe when Hye Yeong tried to kiss her she wasn't ready or she was afraid that she'll hurt him because she was didn't ring his alarm and besides, kisses aren't the only way to express love

Now I understand why the review rating of this drama is poor(3.5). I find it annoying that this girl Jojo suddenly fell out of love with Sunho(without valid reasons), whom she loved so much and easily fall in love with Hye Jeong, the best friend of Sunho. Goodness, so disgusting!

The character Song Kang plays is quite sad. Yea, he was pretty inconsiderate and forceful towards Jojo in season 2. I never really liked how they came to be a couple in season 1 (the kiss while she was dating another, him knowing his friend likes her but still pursues) but their chemistry was cute. Just sad because he never knew why Jojo all of a sudden dropped him without an explanation. All because she thought she was doing him a favor- for the sake of his future based on what his rich parents wanted. Then his friend goes on to make a move on her years after. Why they gotta do a story about besties liking the same girl 😭 Sure, he liked her first but his azz never made a move til later after his friend’s relationship with her fails!? And knowing what his friend went through!? Then the girl falls for the friend. 🤦🏻♀️ It makes sense that the ending couple was meant to be but how they came to be was irritating. This drama is a dumpster fire.
HONESTLY. it’s so hard to watch because it’s so heartbreaking to think of. the way jojo and sun-oh became a couple was a bit… yeah, but they felt right together. everything was mutual between them. but then hye-yeong makes a move as soon as she’s available… wth? that didn’t sit right with me. just everything from jojo unfairly making a choice for her and sun-oh’s future and afterward was terrible.
