Sir, i have the gu700m2 but i still looking for an audio streamer. You seem happy why the bluesound, does this one not limit the quality of audio hires files if not read by usb?
The Blusound Node 2 supports up to 192 khZ PCM, but as far as i recall, no DSD. To my knowledge, there is no streaming service delivering DSD or even higher resolution. The Bluesound is great for the common things, and has great support for almost everything in a cheap, reliable little box you can hide. You need to use USB for native DSD in any case. If the highest possible quality DSD is your goal, and you want a streamer, - you should look after higher end models with USB output.

Hello Harry. Thats a big one, as there is so many factors to consider with speakers. Placement, room, listening style, acoustic properties and your preferences in sound the list goes on. If you like some independent consulting finding out, you can find me on the about page. I will be happy to help.
Very informative and fun reviews! Do you have any general recommendations for speaker pairing with technics amps? There is a load of advice out there for other brands but not much for the relaunched technics. I'm looking at ~€2-3k bookshelves that are neutral-warm sounding 🤔
There is so many good bookshelf speakers out there in that price range! Most of them, not difficult to drive. If you have the space, go check out the MOFI Sourcepoint 8. (wish they did a 6 as well!). There you get a bigger bookshelf, with very nice even dispersion, musical sound and great headroom. I keep going back to it currently and would consider it a great match for something like the G700 MKll. I think it is €3k.
@@stjernholmreviews Thanks for the recommendation. It sounds like you're a fan! I'll definitely give them a listen, but it sounds like they're geared more towards the 'proper' side of my music taste. They actually look pretty cool with grills ON, kind of a B&O look in white. Definitely at the upper end of budget. Would you consider them an upgrade over the dyn special forties?
Great inspirations video with huge amount of information. I own allready as2100+dac+Node streamer. Do you prefer the Su-g700m2 over the Yammy? I apreciate your subjective opinion
I have not listened to the S-2100 in depth ever. Only the S-3200 and ofcurse the 5000 series. Those products are smooth and natural with a bit warm edge sounding to me 🙂. I love the C-5000 preamp, that I use for all analog comparisons. The G700MK2 is as I say in the review, amazing with natural instruments. The speed gives it a vibrancy if you like the natural and crisp sounding, and the LAPC can be very profound with certain speakers. Its not at all "tinny" but feels like real resolution, air and just tight-assed control. Will probably not suit all speakers or preferences. It suits my preferences very well, though! Only way of finding out if the SU-G will take you closer to music nirvana - is to try one! Any good dealer should be able to let you buy with the right to a full refund if you like the S-2100 better.
Yes I do. No matter the precision of their current spacetune system, It can still be a significant help to anyone with less than optimal speaker placement. I got very decent results with the GX70, and wonder why they dont feature it with the other, higher spec amps. Thanks for watching the channel and for commenting.
@@stjernholmreviews I I don’t think it would increase cost too much but it would help make for perfect sound and why not do it while in the digital realm. I set up a system in my bedroom with stuff from garage ( not in use) , GNP Valkeryie speakers , a Denon 4311 reciever with audessey and an old sub, playing apple tunes from a 48” Roku equpped tv and am amazed how good all that old stuff sounds.
Just discovered your channel. Enjoyed your review of the Technics SU-G700MKII. Very interested in this amp. Are there any type of speakers that you should avoid pairing with the G700MKII? Thanks.
Hi Wilsomething999. I is hard to say. In terms of power, that depends on the speaker specs, room size and your listening style. The sounds from these amps are open, clean and naturalistic. if the speaker is very bright and forward sounding, it might not be the best match for a balanced presentation. Nothing can replace trying for yourself and compare it to something very different. In the pricerange there is a LOT of choice. I did a 10 amp comparison test with multiple brands a couple of years back. Check that out using google translate to your local language. They got the full treatment in the same room, on the same speakers. It starts here and continues in 5 parts: www.recordere.dk/2020/07/stortest-10-integrerede-hifi-forstaerkere-del-1-saadan-gjorde-vi/
Morten, the more I learn about hifi, the more confused I get. )))) Do you do any personal consulting with people like myself? I really like your common sense approach to the hobby. Cheers.
@@stjernholmreviews sadly, im in the u.s. Could we do a virtual consult in which I show you my proposed listening room and discuss equipment I have and how I could augment my system? I'm currently looking at the Lyngdorf 1120 and the sonus faber sonetto
Just saw this excellent review👍👏. Strictly in terms of musicality, does this new Technics sound better than the Lyngdorf (with RP engaged) you tested? Thanks
Hi James and THANK YOU for watching the channel! The term "better" can only be translated "better for ME", as I have learned that what we individual audiophiles appreciate the most, is so different from person to person. I love clarity, transparency and speed. The lyngdorf has that, but the SU700mk2 has more. The technics came across as cleaner, and had more "bite" that translated so well into a more vibrant sound, especially with metal instruments. BUT.. the Roomperfect system will almost always at least give you a more neutral and refined bass response, and depending on the room.. it could be much more than that. Also, the 3400 is just a dream in daily use. I love that thing, that can always accommodate anything you need. It is really a matter of what weighs most to you. Both are really great products in their own regard.
@@James-mb5jr 😄 Tap-a-rooo! A pair of smaller articulate speakers in a great room with perfect placement.. I would be on the G700MK2 for the most realistic sound.
My thoughts exactly. I have a pair of LS3/5a 15ohms and intend to listen mostly at near field distance (thus minimising room effects). Hope the Technics SU-G700M2 will give me goosebumps listening to arias.👍👏🙏
Just discovered your channel and thank you for a great review. I am in the market for a Japanese integrated amp. I do not listen to vinyl, therefore, even though the SU R1000 is a superior amp, the premium demand for something I don't use means that I am considering the little brother. In my short lists are the Technics SU G700MII (new), Yamaha RN2000A (new) and Luxman 505xxx or 507xxx (second hand). Streaming capability is not a problem as I have a Bluesound Node and happy to run the digital or analog source into the integrated. I would love to hear your advise on the above choices.
I am pretty convinced that the 700mk2 would be a great choice with the tannoys. I also live the luxmans, but LAPC on the tannoys will be tight and the built in DAC will lift the node. Just listen.
I dont think its possible to decide for you. Both great amps for the money. My personal preference is closer to the crispy G700 sound. I also think it depends on the music you love and the speaker pairing what rocks for you. Try both, let the force guide you. Thank you for watching the channel!!
Hi Charles. Click the "more" button. Underneath the video is only the first couple of lines of the description. Clicking "more" will reveal everything.
Just crazy! To me, it looks like Technics in general have a huge dealer problem. Here in denmark, I think there might be one just carrying a little stock. I have never been able to find out the reason. At this point, they should consider selling direct worldwide.
I am very temped to buy this, i only connect this to my PC with USB for Tidal streaming and PC audio. I can buy one new for 2000€ at this moment. Is it possible to connect my SVS sub to it?
USB input is unstable. When I turn it off, I hear a click in the speaker. The original power cable supplied with the device has a reversed phase (in the place where it should be "L" in my cable is "N" ...)
Interesting. Thank your for sharing and watching the channel! I have never had any issues with USB on the Technics Amps myself. I connect to a Mac or a Cocktail X45 Pro streamer with USB. I have also heard a microscopic click when turning off, but to me a non-issue that I have experienced much more severely on other amps. I never used the supplied power cable.
@@stjernholmreviews I've noticed this USB instability using my Macbook Pro with Roon and Raspberry Pi 4B with Dietpi and moOde. When during listening via USB I switch to another source and then return to USB again, the treble is clearly boosted - to reverse this treble colorization it is needed to disconnect and reconnect the USB plug. I did not observe this phenomenon using Windows PC with original Technics ASIO driver. Hope the firmware update fixes it. Best Regards
@@stjernholmreviews No - DSP is not used at all (all filters where deleted); rather no Roon - to DietPi I stream with BubbleUPnP only. It rather looks like a bug in amplifier firmware. But let it not be that I am in a bad attitude - when the USB acts, the amplifier sounds AWESOME!
@@pytaniedodcf9230 Then it can only be related to the tone control function in the SU700 in such crazy case, where a certain USB device could trigger a hidden DSP insertion. Have you tried to toggle the tone control on the SU700 when it happens? Have you reported the issue to Technics Support? Let us know what is found. I still cant see the logic in it even being possible.
I'm on my 2nd unit. Both produced F76 protection errors/shutdowns when the dimmer button on the remote was pressed. Don't know if this is just a bad run of SU-G700M2 units or what, but this is not cool.

Hi Luis and thank you for watching! There is two ways into hell: The one paved with good intentions and talking about cables 🙂. If sound is the main reason for talking about cables, you should start by evaluating a good, oxygenfree speaker cable, and compare it with a top of the line one. If there is a difference, try to blindtest it. If it is a GOOD change then think about it. You can do A LOT of acoustic improvements to your room, with what a set of expensive speaker cables can set you back, so in terms of sound value, it is one of the things I put last. The other reason could be aesthetics. Here I currently love the way the Inakustik Referenz Air 4004 makes me feel, when I look at those fire-hoses 😀. Good luck, stay sane and for gods sake: Stay away from anything with "active circuits" , pure silver and other exsotic cables. A audible change in sound is NOT the same as a improvement. Thank you for watching the channel!
Headroom is so relative, as it is determined by how loud you play, and the efficiency of the speakers. Doubleling the amplifier power will only give you 3dB extra headroom avaliable, so it is really important to look at your SPL needs and speaker efficiency.
I found it to be very good, ESPECIALLY at lower level where the power cant be challenged. As always, check one out your own room, with your own speakers. Especially the LAPC can make quite a difference on some speaker systems! Thanks for watching the channel, Henrik!
Yes, I did test the SA 30 in 2020. Its a great amp for the money. It did really well soundwise in comparison with others in its priceclass. The hybrid tech is pretty powerful, and you also get built in Dirac room correction. The software sucked, though at the time. I dont think the tradeoff in functionality and loosing dirac if you have RF7`s will be worth it, for a little better micro dynamics and cleanliness.
Technics sounds great and looks great but an LED peak hold bar graph would be a better VU meter for watching out for tweeter fryage!! Does anybody know if the LAPC settings are affected by adjusting speaker L pads?
@@stjernholmreviews Hi, it’s the speaker drive unit level controls (on the speaker) using a potentiometer and resistor of equal(ish) value to the drive unit being adjusted. I think use of these will change the impedance characteristics of the speaker but whether enough to require re-running the LAPC - probably a question for Technics!
Hi. I just got my SU-G700M2 and connected a subwoofer to the PRE-OUT as indicated in the instructions. However, just noticed that the Subwoofer is playing all sounds and not just low frequencies (bass). How do I adjust this in the AMP? thx
Congratulations! The pre-outs are full frequency range, so if you want to use them for subwoofer duties, you will do the crossover filtering on the active subwoofer itself. Most active subwoofers has a crossover setting. Depending on speaker combination and placement there is many variables to consider, but try with a setting around 80 Hz if using a single subwoofer. If it is a small sub, try to find a corner placement for it, as this will greatly improve its output. Let us know how it went! Thank you for watching the channel!
I want it so badly in a place of slowly failing Rotel RX-304. I am thinking of pairing it with my WiiM Pro Plus for streaming capabilities and AT LP120X-USB with some upgrades. If I will be able to afford one at some point this year I hope to upgrade speakers from Indiana Line Tesi 561 to something better. I believe this might be a go-to device for my needs that might be lasting years.
@@stjernholmreviewsDid you have a chance to compare it to yamaha A-S1200? Would you suggest any other options within the price range or something close to this price that should be considered?
Does this amp turn on completely when the power cord is plugged in to a power socket? I need to know this, because everything in my set up has to auto power on. I cannot have devices needing to be turned on with a remote to get them out of stand by mode. Who knows about this?
Really good question. I did not test unfortunately. In my experience, some products will revert to previous state and others dont. With the digital stuff l, i dont think it is likely, as you have all these regulations to “power save”. Have you thought of achieving what you need using a automation system?
its is hard to say without a direct comparison. The Chinese Kinki is a traditional class A/B design as far as i recall, so it is very different from the pure digital and DSP correcting approach of the Technics.
Hi Søren. I believe that the DC15 is at least 100dB@1M SPL. It means that a PAIR these things will produce 110dB SPL at a 5 metre distance with 64 watts. Question is more: What sound do you prefer with them? All that depends very much on your room (most) and the "color" of the amp depending on witch direction you want to "pull" the speaker". I dont know if LAPC would be beneficial to the DC15. I find that the results go from no real improvement to a real one depending on the speaker used (and its impedance properties). Please share your findings, if trying out a couple of amps! Any good reseller should be able to offer you that.
Overall? That totally depends. I loved to use the PMA 2500 with vinyl. I found it to have a really good RIAA stage, and a bit retro like sound. Also, it allows for Bi-amping, and "feels" overall like more fun in daily use. In terms of sound, they are acturally quite differnet. I find the technics to be more lean and accurate. Especially I love the smooth highend and the way it presents metallic instruments. The denon is fatter sounding to me, and I loved the bass, and the old school authentic feel with analog mode and vinyl. It is not as fast sounding as the technics.. What the right match will be for you in your setup I cant tell without doing professional consulting with you. With gear in this priceclass, you should just agree to try both in your own setup. any good reseller have programs allowing you to do that. Or just buy and use your right to return. Obviously its best to have both amps present and play on them for a prolonged time to actually get pass the first impression theater and let the sound sink in. Good luck.
Haha... Yes. It is probaly very expensive to carry out, thinking about what manual labour costs these days, not to mention the logistics with such project. The MK1 is still great in its own right!
Prava, I dont think there is such thing to be honest. I find the same chip can produce very different results due to all the supporting electronics and how they are implemented, including things like the choice of digital filtering and so on. Thank you for watching the channel and commenting!
🙂 Yes and no. The conversion still happens at the last stage, remember? Otherwise, you would be listening to ones and zero`s, witch is not pleasant, I assure you 🙂. Thank you for watching and commenting.
The ability to decode MQA is costly and adds to the price, while it does nothing other than allow you to use a scaming service. Get a server where you can upsample for free and it will be the SAME, except you don’t pay for licences for “pseudo unfolding”. That made sense for hi Fi over celular data plans to minimize data consumption. We can stream video in a phone now ffs!!! It makes no sense today. Where do we get the idea that master quality in Tidal isn’t upsampling when bands themselves acknowledge that they have no clue where tidal is coming up with HD master files when they were never available in higher bit rate to start with?
Its all about that japaneese purity. Being a turntable company, they did not even include a Phono Stage in the R1 series state of the art amplifier system, knowing that the customer base would probably second guess it. It first arrived with the R-1000 integrated amp (also reviewed) with a whole new digital take on it. Thank you for watching the channel. Check out the GX70 amp, that might be just what you are looking for.
Hi Paul. Is that coming from your own experience with this amp, or is it coming from old, settled prejudice? If you are looking for a lot of "coloring" from the amp its not the amp for you. But if you are looking for crisp, fast, dynamic, transparent and silky smooth sound - it is definitely something to sample. I`ll say that with the right sources, it can also be pretty damn warm. But fatiguing? No way. Actually the opposite in my experience testing it.
Well, 140 watts rated in 4 Ohms.. Remember, that watts between brands sometimes are almost impossible to compare, due to many different ways of measuring. €2.500 for a fully digital amplifier (not class D) sounding like it does, is a bargain. As always, TRY ONE! and see what it does to your music. :-) Thanks for watching!
@@jusjash the difference between 70wpc and 100wpc is barely over 1dB extra headroom. One shouldn’t be picking on the amount of watts. That’s silly and ignorant. You get power based on the size of the speakers you can allow yourself in the room and what’s the target SPL. Price isn’t a factor as more power doesn’t translate in any way, shape, or form into better performance.
Your right . I have this amp. Very lean on power , best turntable integrated soundwise though hands down in its price category. So have sensitive large speakers and a small room. If your not LP based get the marantz , arcam 20 or cambridge . They did that power rating at 1000hz which is deceptive vs 20-20. It is though extremely clean and lively with my dynavector.
Agree, but since it matters to a lot of people, I report on it. I dont undestand why we needed it in the first place, with todays bandwith allowing us to stream PCM audio and DSD directly.

Hello, wich brand are the speaker on the right?!!

Do you think they should include room correction processing with these amps?
Yes I do. No matter the precision of their current spacetune system, It can still be a significant help to anyone with less than optimal speaker placement. I got very decent results with the GX70, and wonder why they dont feature it with the other, higher spec amps. Thanks for watching the channel and for commenting.
@@stjernholmreviews I
I don’t think it would increase cost too much but it would help make for perfect sound and why not do it while in the digital realm.
Great review! What would be your recommendation on connecting a Bluesound Node X? Coax vs. USB vs. Analog?
Coax. The node dont do USB to a external DAC as far as I know. I would also do analog to compare the converters. 🤓🎶
Did you notice if you were able to use the tone controls on all sources? I read that sometimes it might not let you on analog inputs?
Did not notice, used primarily with digital source. But interesting! Will investigate if I get the chance.

@@darensweeney5925 You can write me directly. Info on the channel page.
Which one will give you goosebumps with female opera arias? By the way, I did the tap tap…haha.
What speakers, roomsize, musical taste?
@@stjernholmreviews Speakers: Old school Tannoy GRF 15" gold. Room size around 300 sq.ft. Music taste from pop, classical to jazz!
I am pretty convinced that the 700mk2 would be a great choice with the tannoys. I also live the luxmans, but LAPC on the tannoys will be tight and the built in DAC will lift the node. Just listen.
which one would you prefer in sound quality, the su-g700m2 or the yamaha as-1200?
I dont think its possible to decide for you. Both great amps for the money. My personal preference is closer to the crispy G700 sound. I also think it depends on the music you love and the speaker pairing what rocks for you. Try both, let the force guide you. Thank you for watching the channel!!
Where is the link to the big test of the 10 integrated amps you tested? I didn't see it in the description.
Hi Charles. Click the "more" button. Underneath the video is only the first couple of lines of the description. Clicking "more" will reveal everything.
They make this amp in Malaysia but they won’t sell it here! Boo, Technics!
Just crazy! To me, it looks like Technics in general have a huge dealer problem. Here in denmark, I think there might be one just carrying a little stock. I have never been able to find out the reason. At this point, they should consider selling direct worldwide.
Must be some narcissistic politicians involved, don't want us to have nice things. Very supercilious of Panasonic to deny us this beauty!
I am very temped to buy this, i only connect this to my PC with USB for Tidal streaming and PC audio. I can buy one new for 2000€ at this moment. Is it possible to connect my SVS sub to it?
You can connect a sub to the pre-out of the G700MK2, but its not a very sophisticated way of doing it.
@@pytaniedodcf9230 That sounds like a crazy bug. My intuition says that it could be related to Roon. Do you use the DSP and/or exclusive mode?
WOW. Never experienced it, but I probably not used the dimmer button?

What speaker cables do you recommend for this Amplifier with B&W 702 S2? I am evaluating Audioquest but not sure what series.
Does it have enough "headroom" and what about capacitans?
Headroom is so relative, as it is determined by how loud you play, and the efficiency of the speakers. Doubleling the amplifier power will only give you 3dB extra headroom avaliable, so it is really important to look at your SPL needs and speaker efficiency.
How do SU-G700m2 perform at low output levels.
I found it to be very good, ESPECIALLY at lower level where the power cant be challenged. As always, check one out your own room, with your own speakers. Especially the LAPC can make quite a difference on some speaker systems! Thanks for watching the channel, Henrik!
Hi, I have an Arcam SA 30 with RF7 mkIII. Do you think the SU G700mk2 will be an improvement?
Did you test it?
Thanks
Yes, I did test the SA 30 in 2020. Its a great amp for the money. It did really well soundwise in comparison with others in its priceclass. The hybrid tech is pretty powerful, and you also get built in Dirac room correction. The software sucked, though at the time. I dont think the tradeoff in functionality and loosing dirac if you have RF7`s will be worth it, for a little better micro dynamics and cleanliness.
@@stjernholmreviews thanks for your answer.
Dirac is for you better than LAPC?
Dan, LAPC is not a Room Correction system. Check 2:44
Is there a subwoofer pre-out?
you have a pre out, but its not filtered.
Technics sounds great and looks great but an LED peak hold bar graph would be a better VU meter for watching out for tweeter fryage!!
Does anybody know if the LAPC settings are affected by adjusting speaker L pads?
L Pads? Please explain what it is.
@@jhuc2869 Yes! Or the speaker manufacturer.

Have you thought of achieving what you need using a automation system?
i wonder how does this compare to the kinki studio integrated
its is hard to say without a direct comparison. The Chinese Kinki is a traditional class A/B design as far as i recall, so it is very different from the pure digital and DSP correcting approach of the Technics.
Will there be enough power in these for a pair of Cerwin Vega DC15 (compared to a Denon PMA2000AE around the same amount of output power)?
@@stjernholmreviews Thank you so much for your kind and great answer :) I'll keep digging into those two amps.
@@stjernholmreviews Perhaps I could ask you another way around: is the Technics overall a better amp than the Denon PMA 2500 AE (or 2000 AE)?
Good luck.
@@stjernholmreviews Once again thank you so much for your kind and usefull answer.
This means the MKI is on sale. 😁
Technics should offer an upgrade solution to Mk1 owners. Simply do a factory refurbish with and bring ‘em to Mk2 level….at a restaurant cost 😉
Haha... Yes. It is probaly very expensive to carry out, thinking about what manual labour costs these days, not to mention the logistics with such project. The MK1 is still great in its own right!
Can anybody compare the sound characteristic of the original version (DAC Chip: AKM 4497) and the new M2 Version (DAC Chip: ESS 9026 Pro)?
Prava, I dont think there is such thing to be honest. I find the same chip can produce very different results due to all the supporting electronics and how they are implemented, including things like the choice of digital filtering and so on.
Thank you for watching the channel and commenting!
Can you hook up this device to a tape deck Technics tape deck
To payback tapes? Or record tapes? Both?
"..then goes through the DAC in the amp". Er, there is no DAC in the amp, its entirely digital.
I agree. We need to "just listen!"
Im sure its great, but why they bothered to make this and not include a streamer is just ridiculous.
Also, they probably want you to add the SACD PLAYER/ MK II streamer to the purchase.
You sound like Christoph Waltz
Oh, that was it! 😁😁
All digital? That's the first mistake. Clinical fatiguing and no warmth.
70 watts is too little for that price.
Question, yam as1200 90watts versus as801 100 watts ....which would be more powerful?

You can stop farting about MQA, it's just useless.
Agree, but since it matters to a lot of people, I report on it. I dont undestand why we needed it in the first place, with todays bandwith allowing us to stream PCM audio and DSD directly.
