Thank you so much for this. My professor isn't teaching anything like this. Honestly, he makes it harder to understand. The couple hundred dollar stats book I bought doesn't explain this. For all those who don't have/get a table (like me) during your exam, you can use the Inverse Normal PD function with area: (1+CFL)/2, mean: 0, and sd: 1, this should give you the z-score.

If you ever have the misfortune of taking statistics using Pearson online resources, you'll find a large number of problems where the instruction is "use technology to find [a variable]" with no explanation of what kind of "technology" to use or the name of the formula. Now I have the name of the calculation I can use. I spent about 3 hours trying every search in Google I could think of, but online searches only go so far without the right words...
