I seem to recall a lot of rain on this trip! Still, nice to catch the only RML they had. I drove it in later years when it was with Blue Triangle, i couldn't have imagined that back in 1990.......
Thanks for the memories. I would have been 14 when this was recorded and travelled into Paisley a lot from Glasgow on the RMs and the RML to meet friends, go shopping and mainly to go to the football. They were great buses and if I saw one coming along I would wait for it.
That was fab! You caught the scene back then very well. It doesn''t rain all the time, just mostly.... In fact I think it rained every day till about May in 1990 it was incredibly wet.
A very interesting capture here, I worked as a driver on these RMs at Thornliebank garage doing the 10s & 11s, sadly i moved 1989 to the PTE. Clydeside were merged back with Western in 1989, hence the dual fleet numbers seen, note the depot code, followed by C for "crew". Western never wanted these RMs, there lives were short after this, indeed I think some found service back in London, maybe someone could comment if thats correct. Clydeside were an absolute model company to work for, they were the shortest lived Scottish Bus Group company, hounded by the bureaucratic hierarchy of the Bus Group board, which eventually saw their demise, in hindsight if they were left alone they could have been one the major groups today. Thanks for sharing
Thanks for your memories....yes, i knew time was short which is why i came back to film then once more. A few ex Scottish ones did indeed come back to London, i'm pretty sure RM 652 is still at work on the weekends only heritage route 15?...Now a Dartmaster of course but it still survives....Typical of mediocre mangaement to destroy the good, can't be shown up by Clydeside, and have others see how poor the other groups were....
The RML had an accident in London and LT decided not to repair it. Clydeside brought and put it back on the road. Afterclydeside it ended up with Blue Trinagle Buses and worked again in London! The Leyland at 4.40 is in fact an Olympian.....
Yeah I thought I could detect a wraparound windscreen re the mistakenly identified Titan but wasn't sure. That story on the stretched RM explains the non prototypical brake grills.
Sadly that what happened following Western Scottish taking back control of Clydeside, when this was filmed. Most Clydeside management had gone BY 1990, & a lot of other staff bailed out, like me, & went to the competition, Strathclyde PTE , or Strathclydes Buses to be correct. Intestingly 936, was originally a Thornliebank bus, note the depot code M in the correct LT position, then transferred to Paisley depot, hence the PC fleetnumber, but actually this was filmed working the 36 corridor which was worked from Johnstone depot. Soi really has captured a marvel here as these were amongst the last few months of RM operation. So sad, glad to give info.
@@608dave1 Thanks for the info, nice to know some behind the scenes knowledge. I had filmed the Scottish Routemasters in early 1989 but came back again as they were due for withdrawl once Western had control......
@ Southmead Lad, actually all these RMs that went to Clydeside were repainted, blinds fitted, before going north, LT did all the work, where I'm not sure. The delivery of these, circa 86/87, was quite a sight, usually batches of 5 +, driven by LT drivers to a change over with Scottish drivers at service stations in the North West
@@608dave1 They were all sorted out at Aldenham Bus Overhaul Works which is where the blinds were made. I believe this Scottish Routemasters was some of the last work that Aldenham did.......
Yes, all those sent to Scotland had Aldenham Works made blinds. I have two different sets rescued from a couple of ex Scottish RM's that were with Southend Transport as parts donors, all were LT made....
Rather a nice day for you i thought that said willies until it got closer my eyes are bad😮😢

Wow the year I left school. I know it's about routemasters but its the single deckers with Alexander Y types that bring the memories back...👍👍👍
I wish now i had filmed all the buses i saw back then.......
Down my way Western SMT had a few Seddon Pennine VIIs with Gardner engines and Alexander Y and T type bodies... The Ayr Seddon's.
I worked for Clydeside Paisley depot 1972 - 1982, memories indeed
So you may well have driven Scottish half cabs back in the 1970s then?......Sadly you left before the Routemasters came.....
My father drove the routemasters Down in London in the 1950s before he came back home to Glasgow
He probably drove the Routemaster's predessors, the RT's.... Similar looking buses though but without power steering or auto gearboxes!

My pleasure......This was my second trip out to see the Scottish Routemasters

Yes, i was very wet this day, i had a plastic bag over the camera to keep it dry!

I did drive the route masters in the 70,s before OMO came in, nice and toasty in the cab
How did an RML and Titan end up there so early?
A couple of cruel tantalising glimpses of Nationals.
3:52 that's one throaty RM.

Paisley and Johnstone town centre looked far better then. I drive with Mcgill's buses and it sucks to drive here.
Peobably more traffic and less friendly passengers nowdays!
RM936 sounds somewhat sick, let alone the fact it has no front number plate

Managed to salvage a destination blind from a Clydesdale Routemaster dated 1986. Actually made by London Transport.
