Your point about asking was spot on, most people do not have simply because they do not ask. I ask all the time, always ask if this is the best they can do, or simply say you know they can get lower. They almost always will give you a better price. Don't be afraid to ask, you have to fight for yourself because no one else will!
Sherwin Williams conventions have crazy good deals. I loaded up last one they had, got a 495 for $1,300 with 100ft of hose, 5 spray tips and a coupon for a free pump. They had Collosus roller for $3.50 a pop, brushes were almost half off. It was ridiculous, I bought so much stuff I am still using it 5 years later and I saved $1,000's of dollars.
I recently purchased my first four rentals. As a landlord, I've painted one apartment and I'm getting ready to paint three more. Your teachings have been an immense help to me. Now I'm getting ready to go sign up for a contractor discount at a local paint store! I appreciate all the help!

That is YEAR AROUND people. So, with the 35% off Blue bucket sale at SW it drops to 23.39! So, if you plan on buying ALL you tips durning the 10 days or so they do the bucket sale, Go right ahead. Hi ,first sorry for my english, i'm a french canadian. I worked for paint dealer's for around 30 years. Sherwin-Williams,Glidden, MF (in quebec) and Benjamin Moore. It's not always a good idea to work whit two dealers. If you do you will have less volume rebate because you will spend less money in each company. It will be easier to ask rebate on a high volume $$$$
Always great advice in ANY business. If you aren't buying all your goods at them, they will be aware of what you aren't buying and will likely try to get you to buy from them for everything they can sell you. So having that competition present in their minds is what you want. They know if you buy product X from somebody else, there's a reason for that. They need to make you a better deal than the other guys. They will likely want to know what you are currently paying for that thing. I would guard that info and just let them know you're paying less. Let them offer a price and keep them lowering it until you think you've got them at or near their bottom line, then jump ship and let the other guys do the same to win you back. It's just good smart business practice. If you have a good rep that you like you might want to share some things with them that won't matter much, just to help them feel like you're being fairly transparent with them, for the sake of that rapport. That way they won't get the impression that you're "playing" them.
Awesome topic and advice. Thanks guys. I used to belong to a local real estate club and one of the perks was a discount (10 to 20 % I believe) at any Home Depot. I just needed to check out at the `Contractors Corner' and show my REI club membership card. On that note, real estate clubs can be an awesome way to network with others that can bring you work if you find investors that don't do their own painting. Many of them make use of contractors for nearly everything once they don't have time to do the hands on themselves, or it's a subject beyond their skill sets. So attend some meetings and hand out plenty of business cards. You might pick up some good paying work there, especially for those off seasons.

I own a painting in company in Nebraska and I use primarily SW paint because I have found that it is a better quality paint for the price. Doesn't have fowl odor like valspar or other paints and if you talk to your rep you will get a better price than anywhere else. I was with Benjamin Moore for the longest time and he beat every price and it is a better quality. Ofcourse SW generic vs BM generic and SW premium vs BM premium.
Sherwin Williams owns Valspar. I usually find that the big-box home improvement stores (such as Lowe's) that carry Sherwin Williams products are typically more inexpensive than Sherwin Williams' retail stores, even with their "discounts".
Home Depot told me they will give you 20% off all paint/paint supplies for the following year after you spend $7,500 but I just found out that Home Depot offers a 15% discount on all purchases if you can show proof of veteran status. You have to use your Pro Account or Military discount you can’t use both but the military discount is on all purchase and you don’t need to spend $7,500 and wait till the following year to start using the discount. Wish I would’ve taken advantage of that 10 years ago. Lol.

In California, it seems like Kelly Moore is the contractors choice. We have access to just about all the major paint stores Benjamin Moore, Sherwin Williams, Dun Edwards, etc.) + all the big box hardware stores. I'm guessing that most of the specialty paint stores have similar discounts.
PPG owns Dulux paints. A lot of contractors I know swear by Dulux paints. Retail people flock to Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams cause of advertising but the best quality is at Dulux.
This was interesting. They mentioned it briefly, it bears repeating - every SW store is independent. We have two in our area. One works with us pros and DIY folks, the other is every bad thing one can say about SW, rolled into one location.
Sherwin Williams has an AQHA discount for those of you who are aqha members. We tried to wait for a sale but there is currently a paint shortage, the guy at SW helped us find a discount we did qualify for.
Thank you. I can always learn more. I've been painting inside my apartments or houses for years. Getting harder, now that I have carpal tunnel syndrome. Any ideas to make painting easier would greatly be appreciated. I'm not a contractor. 3 more rooms left to do in my home.
Do it myselfer!! Love your videos. Working on some trim through home. You’ve helped me a lot. Thanks so much. What are your thoughts on flotral additive?
My ProMar200 contractor price went up significantly for 2020, so I am on the hunt for another type of paint to use for Class B multi-family apartments. What do you recommend? The SW store recommended ProMar400 but the cost savings doesn't totally seem worth the step down, but they said that new home builders in my area are buying Painter's Edge in-mass and they said I can piggy back on the truck loads they get in to support the new home construction and get it for $12/gallon. Would Painter's Edge be good for Class B multi-family apartments? Tenant turnover on average is 5-7 years.
I take advantage of the SW bucket sales & other sales. My current job paint has been purchased 30% off, which I'm sure makes a difference to the builder I am working for. I was not aware of the military discount which means a lot to my military customers. Last year I worked for a retired Air Force col. who said he ran bases and used SW paint. Materials add up and so does labor and of course your numbers are competing with other contractors.

Hi there. I’ve been painting for year but residential for a long time but new to industrial and commercial. I suffer from anxiety. I’m starting to get jobs that I’m alone for almost the entire project. What do you guys think can help me keep control of my self? I know this a odd question to ask here but any advice would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.
They give you 15%off just for opening a cash account to anyone. Not just military. The only time you get real good discounts through S&W is whenever you spend a hundred thousand a year... they go by volume for your discount
Quick question I know you guys say to remove tape prior to paint or caulking drying up if you are applying 2 coats how would you go about doing so? Thank you awesome channel keep posting up videos they are all very helpful and definitely have made me a better painter and considering starting a small painting business myself keep the videos coming!
You just have to know how to unmask and what products to mask with. It is to complicated to go into here. The best advise I can tell you, is to always pull masking back on itself. I get razor sharp lines with primer +2 finish coats and the gap is always bridged! Make sure you are masking to your smoothest & highest sheen finished substrate.
Chris, this question is off topic, but I noticed you guys like to use different sized extension wands when spraying. It seems like using those makes the gun act much different. Lots more spitting! I like to hold the trigger and go but maybe I need to keep the threads cleaner, etc. also, don’t you think the ff lp tips pattern much different than advertised!? Cheers!

I know you've mentioned the Hi Bild pre-cat lacquer for "painting" cabinets, and I can get that from certain local Sherwin Williams stores in gallons. But they were saying the corresponding primer was going to come in a 5 gallon bucket. Is there another primer they (or another company) makes that would still work well with the lacquer in a 1 gallon size?
You don't have to use the credit card at Sherwin Williams ever in order to still take advantage of the discount. I personally get 40% off from Sherwin Williams on ALL product.
Just found you guys last week and so thankful for that! An idea for a new video cleaning paint off hands! I hate working in gloves so on the regular spend a lot of time cleaning my hands especially with exterior paints. Thanks!
David Smeltser I am one to that I don't like using gloves though what works good is goof off or goo gone they are not toxic & removes paint easy after I used the goo gone I then use some dish soap this always works best for me👍
If it's not too hot, I always turn my brush upside down and and trap the brush handle inbetween the metal handle and plastic bucket by the pivot point seems to help me keep my hands clean as the brush isn't sat on a wet edge waiting for me too pick up after tea break ;)
My local shermin williams store just had 40% off sale for the 4th of July. .. I bought all the stain for my house and garage a few brushes and ladder stabilizer saved me $740.00 great video guys, question for you guys, what brush would you buy to cut in window and doors with solid stain? Bought a nice shermin williams 4" stain brush works great but around the windows I bought a Purdy 2" brush but it lays the stain different than the thick stain brush kind of leaves a noticeable lap mark... Thank you
Ryan, are you using a heavy bodied stain? Those stains are typically heavy on pigments and can leave over lap marks or less transparent dark areas. I usually section out on doors and windows and that can create less problems, regardless of the type of brush choice.
Question for other small business owners; do you go door to door with just a business card and a great helpful attitude, or have fliers, put them on only houses that look like they need help or all houses?? Any tips would be great. Thanks!
Hi Jace, we did with flyers with canada post office. On 15000 flyers we received only 7 peoples at our store !!! Good service with your customers will bring back more new customers
My first business venture, I put flyers out for days just to get a couple customers. But those couple costomers referred me to their friend and their friends and so forth. My second year I had to hire help. I say get out there and pound on doors to get your name out there. Stay positive and stay focused
It's a pain in the ass, but we use an 8-16 extension pole with a pin roller to cut in the ceiling, a gooseneck brush on the same pole to cut any fixtures and the walls. Then use a 9" to roll the fields. Most times we use a ladder and traditionally cut and roll it but for rental repaints it's faster just using the pole.
Maybe you are not a pro but see if the guy who did your tile or kitchen is as the store will let you use their discount. It saves you money and helps your contractor too. ☺
I've gone into 2 local SW and just asked when is the next 35 or 40% off sale. maybe i just got lucky, but they go look it up for me. plus SW has a $10 off $50 coupon on their website that I've use during a sale. over the last 10 years prices have gone up 30% so these paint stores aren't really giving you much of a sale when there constantly got a deep discount being offered every few weeks.
We wait for a Sherwin -Williams sale on paint. But with 40% off, it still cost us $50/gallon!!!!! What other mfg would you recommend? Live in northeastern pa.
Sherwin is expensive. Don’t get sucked into the higher end line of paint. I use the Pro mar 200 slit and it’s a contractor line but still a very good product. Benjamin Moore contractor line with Ultra Spec, Super Spec is pretty good stuff. Even Behr at Home Depot is good paint. The big hitter contractors will pay 1/3 of retail depending on yearly purchases. All depends what you’re painting. Exterior paint or interior enameling like windows, doors or cabinets go high end. Interior walls a mid price paint is just fine either in flat or eggshell finish. Hope this helps.
Peter Bergeris Sherwin sells Promar 200 in flat, low sheen and eggshell. Emerald is the high end paint. I like the low sheen which is less shiny than the the full eggshell. Still good washability. I hate Sherwins roller covers and brushes by Purdy. Go to a Ben Moore storecand but the their best 1/2 inch roller covers. They spray much less when rolling walls. Buy the Wooster line of brushes and rollers. The best ones. I always use a 3 inch nylon in extra firm for cutting in walls. Cost you a few bucks mire than the cheap ones. Lot of gurus say wet your brush before the painting. Don’t. Just makes your brush more floppy and you might not shake all the water out of it. Buy a cheap wire brush for cleaning the paint brush. Wire brush from the metal ferrule down to the ends of the bristles until all the dried up paint is pulled out of the bristles. It won’t damage the bristles. Don’t use a lot of water pressure into the ends of the bristles you can twist up the bristles and ruin the brush. Just keep bending the bristles with your other hand under running water until it’s clean. Spin the brush with both hands, straighten the bristles and key it dry.
@@jackdaniel.2546 I picked up some micro fiber 3/8 inch nap roller covers. Seem to cover more area. I have some purdy, Wooster brushes of different sizes.
Peter Bergeris 3/8 is ok for walls depending on the paint used. 1/2 inch holds more paint. If using flat paint you can use a 50/50 blend roller which work well. Very little roller spray. With any roller it needs to get saturated with paint when you first start with a dry roller. Like 6-8 feet of wall before it’s loaded up. I always work out of a 5 gallon bucket with a grid. Trick us to keep your roller loaded up and not try to roll every drop out if the roller. Keep dipping and roll top to bottom and keep a wet edge. Most painters fail trying to stretch the paint too far. Be liberal to a point.
edgar0- that wasnt the question. he says that he has never been paid by Sherwin Williams to promote them. What he doent say is whether he gets free things or a massive discount from them. Im sure you know what a schill is. Its pretty obvious.
I went to Sherman Williams last week and they didn't have my company on record (I know I made a account 10 plus years ago and used the account). So I reestablished the account and the lady said will give you discount after you purchased paint from us for awhile. That didn't sit well with me, one they lost my first paint account second It felt odd they never gave me a card or information with a possible sales rep to contact and discuss any issues. I'm on the fence with using them and might have to return to Dunn (if we tint your paint wrong its not our fault its yours) Edwards.
David, Thank you grammar police. Without people like you searching for mistakes (like mine!) on our trusty internet, I'm not sure how we would go on in life.
I would talk to your store’s manager if you are interested in rep assistance, as far as your account being lost, if you hadn’t used in with in so many years it could likely have been filtered or for inactivity.
Ariel and Edgar, it was some time since I used the account, which explains that. I shut down my business for a few years to take care of spine surgery and few other surgeries to be fully rebuilt for the second half of my life. Thanks for the reply.

Thank you. I can always learn more. I've been painting inside my apartments or houses for years. Getting harder, now that I have carpal tunnel syndrome. Any ideas to make painting easier would greatly be appreciated. I'm not a contractor. 3 more rooms left to do in my home.
Get surgery or switch hands. I had to do both
@@Van_bya_river Agreed it's Absolutely Miserable.
You guys always look like you're either just coming from or just getting ready to go to a softball game
Or maybe they have a company softball team...... Probably just the hats.
Yeah painters edge is fine as long as you are using flat.
My paint reps. Kill it for me, but I'm pretty good at negotiating pricing so I can remain competitive price wise
Some of them are good, thanks for sharing your experience with them!
CHRIS make video how to access roof steps and difficult parts of the roof.
Good idea!
A journeyman is a worker, skilled in a given building trade or craft, who has successfully completed an official apprenticeship qualification. Journeymen are considered competent and authorized to work in that field as a fully qualified employee.
Thanks for the tip on military discounts at Home Depot 👍. Could you guys explain the kick backs in more detail?

Put some head phones in and just focus at the task at hand
Enjoy y'all videos
Should I bid just labor if they buy everything needed to do the job? Or should I bid the job with me buying everything?
Thank you
They give you 15%off just for opening a cash account to anyone. Not just military. The only time you get real good discounts through S&W is whenever you spend a hundred thousand a year... they go by volume for your discount
Great tips guys. Keep it up.
Acts 17:24, 25
Thank you!
Home Depot gives you a contractor discount IF you purchase a certain dollar amount - if your purchase is less than that figure, no discount.
Thanks for sharing Margaret!
I didn't know John Cena was a painter.
Yes. Glad to know I wasn't the only one to think that lol
We remove after the first coat then just go through a touch up where needed for the second coat. Therefore, we do not tape a second time
You just have to know how to unmask and what products to mask with. It is to complicated to go into here. The best advise I can tell you, is to always pull masking back on itself. I get razor sharp lines with primer +2 finish coats and the gap is always bridged! Make sure you are masking to your smoothest & highest sheen finished substrate.
Wow! Great info! Thank you!
Good video, some great info some of which I didn't know. Super
Thanks for watching!
Heyyyy body what is the different by twin 310 lp graco tip whit 311 trueairles graco tip
Cheers!

Hey Chris do you guys paint interiors during summer, or just exterior?
Hey Budy, Thank you.

They should be able to order it in a one gallon size
You don't have to use the credit card at Sherwin Williams ever in order to still take advantage of the discount. I personally get 40% off from Sherwin Williams on ALL product.
Awesome!
Just found you guys last week and so thankful for that! An idea for a new video cleaning paint off hands! I hate working in gloves so on the regular spend a lot of time cleaning my hands especially with exterior paints. Thanks!
David Smeltser I am one to that I don't like using gloves though what works good is goof off or goo gone they are not toxic & removes paint easy after I used the goo gone I then use some dish soap this always works best for me👍
Alcohol clean pretty good!
If it's not too hot, I always turn my brush upside down and and trap the brush handle inbetween the metal handle and plastic bucket by the pivot point seems to help me keep my hands clean as the brush isn't sat on a wet edge waiting for me too pick up after tea break ;)
Thanks! Incredibly useful for DYIrs.
Will be looking forward to next
March to buy Graco tips at 35% off
Great respect for your team presentations.
Do you ever use elastomeric coatings
Home depot is cheap but they dont have the brands that real paint stores carry but still okay to get a job done
What manufacturer / model of paint do you typically use? both interior & exterior?
Sherwin Williams
Thanks! Can you be more specific on the line of SW paint?
Do you lower your prices to the customer when you ask for your prices to be lowered ?
Never
love the show
Thanks for watching Shane!
My ideas are just a whole video on tips and tricks to complete whole paint jobs , and problems that can happen
Great Tip's Guy's :)
Thanks for watching!
How about a video on painting a 2-story foyer and ceiling (without a ladder)?!?!??!!
Good idea!
It's a pain in the ass, but we use an 8-16 extension pole with a pin roller to cut in the ceiling, a gooseneck brush on the same pole to cut any fixtures and the walls. Then use a 9" to roll the fields. Most times we use a ladder and traditionally cut and roll it but for rental repaints it's faster just using the pole.
nice job guys
Thanks!
Maybe you are not a pro but see if the guy who did your tile or kitchen is as the store will let you use their discount. It saves you money and helps your contractor too. ☺
Do you cut house paint before spraying
Yes
??? So you are cutting the house paint that you spray.
Hey Chris, you posted proverbs 15-11 and I read it however I don't understand what it means could you enlighten me please sir?

😮 I ❤saving money💲💲!! 🖒
lol, who doesn't!?!?
I've gone into 2 local SW and just asked when is the next 35 or 40% off sale. maybe i just got lucky, but they go look it up for me. plus SW has a $10 off $50 coupon on their website that I've use during a sale. over the last 10 years prices have gone up 30% so these paint stores aren't really giving you much of a sale when there constantly got a deep discount being offered every few weeks.
True
I'm not sure these guys could be any bigger Sherwin-Williams fan boys
Its buisness jackass
I've heard there paint is better than home Depot
We use Sherwin Williams for everything if they can order it. And we also get a great price. So it’s good for everyone
All the parts to a house thank u lol
How much paint do you buy yearly to get a kickback?
There is no limit
@@jackdaniel.2546 Who sells pro mar? Saw a video where 6 paints were tested for coverage and Sherwin Williams Emerald came out on top and beat behr.
Peter Bergeris
Sherwin sells Promar 200 in flat, low sheen and eggshell.
Peter Bergeris
3/8 is ok for walls depending on the paint used.
Need to meet you guys
Review for Dulux (lifemaster) maybe? (Roll & spray)
Good idea!
Paint Life TV I’ve rolled a medium grey LifeMaster a few times. It’s thick. Real thick. I’m talking J-Lo thick.
I love u guys
The Cardinals 🥩🪓 World Series 🍺but seriously no one ever gives out there scared secrets not even a mechanic 🧰 Lol 😂
Your disclaimer says you are not paid or ever have been to promote Sherwin Williams products. Have they ever or do they give you any free products?
Mark S they show videos all the time of the free stuff they receive from Graco and other companies.
edgar0- that wasnt the question. he says that he has never been paid by Sherwin Williams to promote them. What he doent say is whether he gets free things or a massive discount from them. Im sure you know what a schill is. Its pretty obvious.
We have not received a discount or products to promote them. They have provided paint once for a video we did but that is about it
I went to Sherman Williams last week and they didn't have my company on record (I know I made a account 10 plus years ago and used the account).
They only keep your account for 3 years on file after last time used.
Yes, typically you have to be being paint consistently, unfortunately. We do not prefer having a rep, but if you prefer one they should be able to provide one
Just because you buy paint doesn't mean you have to add color to it right away
...lots of guys buy their regular stuff in bulk sales and have it tinted as needed...
Home Depot DOES NOT offer 20% off on your sundries. Just the paint.
Thanks for sharing Roger!
Probably because Lowe's just scored long term deal with Sherwin Williams...home Depot paint department really got put behind
@@john.french Home Depot has a deal with Glidden, now owned by PPG who are getting into the paint contracting business, according to an article i read on painttalk.
PPG is by far and away the largest paint company on the planet. That is funny that you said they are "getting into the paint contracting business"
And you pass the savings to the customer?😁
Just asked, thanks lol
hi brothes what is the kit box ? can you explain that a little be more pls

You've got to watch Sherwin Williams. They will go from $26 to $40 on a gallon. You have to watch them on every order. Babysitting. They want your business til they have it. They had to give me $1000 worth of paint just on the ceiling white i had been getting once. You have to stay on their butt!
