I appreciate all the info, bud, but your hand is right in the way of the view of the screen controls you’re activating. Makes following what you’re doing very difficult.

@@pkal244 I have not, I actually switched to iPhone right before I bought it. CarPlay works great though so I imagine AA should yield similar results.
How's changing volume? Trying to decide if I want one with a volume knob or not
@@drewgrasse5829 Volume knobs are intuitive and feel natural to me. However this head unit will allow you to use voice commands and is also compatible with separate hardware to link any existing steering wheel controls if you have them.
Do you have to use a phone charger to use apple car play?

The question is whether the 407 is better than the 650???
The 407 has more functionality than the 650. Don't let the product # confuse you. In addition to all of the ILX-650's features, the ILX-407 has HDMI input, AUX input, RCA input, HD Radio, 5 more watts of power (why not?), and 1.5A USB Charging as opposed to 1.0A. This is why it runs around $100 more, give or take.
I own one and here are definitely cons to it. The USB will not work with the video output. The sub level does not work correctly you adjust then it quickly resets to zero when you exit out the screen. The only way for the unit itself to turn off is physically turn vehicle off. Very bad thing when running multiple amplifiers and going on trips. There is no button on screen or option to switch to video input there is only Aux. The Bluetooth signal cuts out alot
Thanks for the feed back.There is an update for that might solve the subwoofer issues and Bluetooth. If not you might have a bad unit… on turning off try to hold down for 5 seconds the center hard button with the 6 squares. On the video input input yes it says aux but it shows the video cables. I agree it should say “video input” because who’s gonna use that as aux?! Now you might be able to change it in the menu. I know on the halo units you can and this software is more similar them then the ilx-w650. On the usb video We’ll have to check into that.. I know that some halo units did it

I just bought this and upgraded my system from stock. Totally not okay with 5 bands. And idk if he explains it but none of those bands are for the subwoofer. I just had the shop re install a 507 instead i got an appoint. So ill give my feed back on that. Ill see if you have have one on that 507 radio. It sounds good but i want to change the base to it. And 5 bands just aint enough. Alpine should know better than that

How difficult is it for our top brands to push out models with HD screens in 2021? I can't really picture myself spending $600+ on a double-din that doesn't have an HD screen, but I'm not finding many options. Any recommendations?

What’s the main difference of this versus the w650? Is the $100 price difference worth it?
Main difference is the channels, the w650 is more tunable. Personal opinion I would get the 407 because it’s newer and has more apps
The main difference is the 407 is maestro compatible where as the 650 is maestro compatible but it’s very limited no engine performance data only steering wheel and back up camera

I have it but not happy with it, doesn't show CD artwork with Spotify and the Bluetooth cuts in and out sometimes. Also no spectrum analyzer like my pioneer did.

Yeah I just installed this and the android auto doesn't work or has to be connected to the back of the stereo itself which is stupid. Why the fuck would my phone have to be plugged in??? Lol it's 2022! Bluetooth works without an extra app. I download Android auto and it does nothing for me since I have to be hardwired to use it. The interface also sucks anyway.

I installed this unit in my 2012 corvette using the pac RP5-GM11 module to retain onstar and my steering wheel controls. I’ve encountered two problems, there’s a hiss noise from the speakers and my steering wheel controls are not working. I keep the factory Bose speakers and amp. How can I fix the hissing and get the wheel controls working?

On the steering wheel controls try to manually program them. Call PAC tech support they can help you through that process. On the hiss sometimes it’s hard to remove it. You can try low level inputs, that would require you to solder rca ends on the speaker inputs on the RP5. But sometimes the only way is to bypass the Bose amp with a 5 channel or two amps

I just installed this today and I’m having an issue where the volume stops increasing after 15. I’ve made sure that the source volume is turned up.At at full volume it’s like it’s barely up

Can you use this thing without connecting it to a phone? Without internet access? I have looked all over the internet, and nothing shows how the navigator works on the thing. I don't want to connect it to the internet, I want to use simple GPS navigation. There are instructions on how to get this index linked with tea prices in Zimbabwe, but not how to use the radio, reverse camera and GPS, the only three things you need in a car unit, Everything else are just gimmiks. Why would you want to watch movies, read facebook posts or generally stuff around with touch screen controls while driving your car? Has the world gone nuts?

Whatever apps showed up in Carplay already are the only ones that you will be able to use unfortunately not all apps are carplay compatible

But I can not dislike the Ford My Touch/Sync more then I do already. would you recommend a Radio for the mother (Android Auto/Car Play is a must), I like the Floating Screen 9' and up. I'm open to Android OS but little nervous since LINUX and other systems have the tendency to work better. budget under $800. Pending your feedback!!

Being an old car I dont care about amps and cameras, all im looking for is wireless carplay and a good bright screen. looking thorough your videos I saw a sony that was good for Harley's because of the sun but didnt have wireless carplay. Okay, so I'm only 16 and am looking for a headunit for my 04 Corolla and this one is the one I'm thinking about getting, but I'm very lost on how the wiring harnesses work. I've watched a couple videos on how to assemble them but I just can't seem to understand it. So the box includes part of the wiring harness but it needs another part to be soldered together with, but what is that second part that I would need to get? Also, could I purchase a plug and play wiring harness somewhere so that I could plug it directly from the headunit to my car without having to solder anything? Sorry, I have no knowledge of installing car radios, I just really wanted to have a touchscreen radio in my car.

Yes you phone has to be plugged in with the USB for Apple carplay or android auto

I'm tired of these mainstream brands with their half assed updates at those ridiculous prices. Not worth the money.
So the alternative is buying the Chinese brand radios. These radios are packed with features people like at a very cheap price. But if your into car audio the sound quality and over all quality is not nearly as good. We have installed these radios for customers that bring them in so we see first hand. BUT next week we’re gonna compare a Joying radio Against the JVC. So it’s gonna be interesting so check it out.
@@BreakersStereo It's not like you're not going to have to add an amp to these stereos to get the best out of your speakers, so the sound quality can be handled by the amp as long as you choose a good amp.
In a way.. now the sound starts at the headunit so no matter how good of an amp you get it will be limited to the sound quality of the output of the radio. There has been a few times where we’ve changed out an andriod radio with a name brand and it really opened up the sound.

Do you have a part number for the adapter I would need to convert the signal from HDMI so I can mirror to the factory rear screens in my 2013 Yukon Denali. I have the I data link maestro and the AVGM2 harnesses. And where do I hook the adapter to the radio
IMO, That eq is a downgrade from the 650-- poor decision on Alpines part

I have reviewed a few UA-cam videos on the Alpine ilx-407 and I am amazed that none of them mentions that this unit has NO ON/OFF switch. Am i the only one that thinks this is important? Apparently the only way to drive with the radio off is to turn the volume all the way down. So while the "experts" argue over how many equalizers, the user might be better served by knowing that the unit cannot be turned off without turning off the car, Talk about missing the forest for the trees!!!

If you have a Samsung it should work but it won't charge your phone unless you have the kind with USB charging or use a wireless charger
look in the owners manual, there is a specific cable Alpine sells for this. I got one off of amazon, MHL connection kit KCU-610MH, and also a micro usb female to usb c adapter for like $7 on amazon
