4k picture manual laparoscopic surgery, robot surgery... i envy you fellas; all the hernia surgeries in both clinics where i was assisting we did the open way. But thank you a lot for the video, for the technics you have shown
i have seen many videos online, read dozens of articles and infact some countries have now banned the use of mesh to hernia. The danger and risk specially the chronic pain during the later years are just unreal according to people who have used mesh during their hernia operation couple of years back. The medical society needs to look into this.
What country has banned the use of mesh to treat hernias? Pelvic meshes for some prolapse surgeries are no longer employed commonly, as far as I'm aware even they are not banned per se.
From my understanding mesh for inguinal hernia repair has been used successfully for 30 or so years and it’s really the designer meshes and the mesh repairs for other repairs such as prolapses that are having issues. It just sort of seems like due diligence wasn’t really used when moving to use mesh in other procedures since it was so well used with hernia repair
I just had a double hernia corrected on Wednesday. Huh, I had no idea how it was performed and figured the mesh had to be wrapped around tissue, attached, etc. etc. It isn't that complex. One thing I was wondering, I have always had low semen volume and would assume I have had this hernia for many years. Is it possible something was being impinged that may have been corrected? The vas deferens carries very little volume, though.
I just had same Hernia repair on right side.. I’m a heavy guy about 285lbs.. today is day 5 since surgery. Is it normal to still have pains in groin or hernia area so many days after when I get up, sit down. When I get up I feel pressure on my groin and have to walk slow.. I can barely wipe when I go to restroom 🚽. I keep worrying about damaging mesh getting up and sitting down because it hurt. Your thoughts would be appreciated 🙏🏼
Hi I just recently inguinal hernia repair laparoscopic. This is a reoccurring hernia and I previously had repaired from the outside. I’m 10 days post op and have swelling that is like a hard bulge we’re my hernia was at my groin. Is this normal after 10 days? There is no pain from it. I tried icing it a bit but doesn’t go down much. The bulge feels like internal scar tissue.Could this be scar tissue? Thanks for in advance
Laparoscopic versus open surgery is really best decided between the surgeon and the patient. It's too difficult to comment on which would be best on this platform.
why does it look like the mesh is folded at the end and likely to fold even more, after complete gas removal? isnt the groin where the hernia occurs normally a flat area, thus the mesh should not fold?
The groin is a 3-Dimensional area and is not flat. Most inguinal meshes are pre-formed to help account for that curvature. There is some additional bending of the mesh as the groin returns to its normal shape after a surgery. Fortunately the peritoneum and the abdominal contents will flatten the mesh into the contoured curved inguinal area.
Swelling and bruising of the scrotum and testicles is 100% normal and expected after hernia repairs. This is due to some blood as well as normal tissue edema. It usually completely resolves in days/weeks after the surgery.
@@CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists ok,i know your meaning, but do you suture the hernia ring? i mean close the hernia ring,if donot close it ,it is easy to recurrence, especially direct hernias.but,as for me,i never use weight mesh for several years, because allmost all the inguinal henia,i close the hernia ring,so do you regularly close hernia ring for direct hernia and indirect henia?there is so much room to talk about this subject.
5 weeks out from Single Laparoscopes right side inguinal mesh repair. Week one and two, 3 on a 10 scale pain and swollen and black & blue "package" and I do mean black and blue 😱. Week 3-4 Package returns to normal 1 on a 10 scale pain only when getting up or laying down. Week 5 no pain at all back to normal activities. This procedure is no fun but the hernia won't go away. Get it done.
Hey doctor,im a 21 year old student from indian,I am diagnosed with left inguinal hernia, many of my friends and relatives saying that,if i do surgery it can lead to infertility,as im just 21 years old and im not married yet,im afraid of my future please help me❤
Greetings and thank you so much for the video. I am a healthy male 26. 178cm 80kg.i just got a scan and it showed 2 small hernias, one on each side. Inguinal I think it's called. My doctors want me to wait for surgery until it becomes worse and more painful as they see the surgery as a risk factor. But personally to me it sounds safer to do it when I'm young and have such a small size. What is your opinion on this matter? Also as I'm quite scared of surgery.. could you explain to me why you didn't sew on the mesh? It looks like it's just pushed up against the hole but still kinda flappy.
Watchful waiting for small hernias is very common and reasonable. 75% of hernias get larger and/or start causing pain, but 25% never will and can be successfully managed with just observation. Good luck, CAHS
Don’t get hernia surgery unless they are really bothering you. Also if they are small get a pure tissue repair, I had a pure tissue repair on one side and never had a problem and had a mesh on the other side and have chronic pain. Get them stitched first and if they come back then get the mesh. That’s just my opinion, I’ve been through this already.
@@drewdrilak2437 I'm glad you had a good result with one of your operations and it's unfortunate that you suffer with pain from the other one. Chronic pain is a reported complication with tissue repairs as well, the rates are similar to mesh repair. It is mainly propaganda by tissue repair specialists that this approach is not associated with chronic discomfort. This is not borne out by studies.

Just amazing. I had my second hernia surgery in April. Am doing well currently

This Doctor Todd did the same type of surgery for me. 2 days later i drove home from Huntington Beach to Phx. It all went well.

We haven't heard of semen count being affected by a hernia but it certainly could be possible.

In our experience, 0% of patients injure the hernia repair in the first several days after surgery. We're sure you're healing normally, CAHS

Having swelling and hardness around the surgery site or the hernia site is 100% common and will usually resolve completely over time.
Is open surgery or laproscopy which one is better because my mom already done appendix in laproscopy so that's why

Dr.. Bilateral hernia Open is good method..?
Bilateral open inguinal hernia repairs is more invasive than laparoscopic but still an option.
After how long after the surgery i can go back to the gym.
And am i never supposed to lift heavy ever again🥺
We allow our patients to return to heavy lifting 3 weeks after their hernia surgery. We advise discussing your particular case with your surgeon.

@@CaliforniaHerniaSpecialists Thanks you Doctor
i found it is a heavy mesh ,why not u use a light, macroporous polypropylene? it definitely more comfortable to patients.
We've moved away from a lightweight mesh due to the slight increase in recurrence rates on larger direct hernias. Best, CAHS

What’s a hernia sac?
A hernia sac is the protrusion of the peritoneum and abdominal contents through the hernia.
fixation is required or not
Studies have not shown that the mesh needs to be fixated but the vast majority of surgeons will perform some type of small fixation.
How much does it cause to have this type of surgery
There is a page on our website which discussed the costs for hernia surgery.
