"Lonely Waters" is a beautiful nature poem. The music ebbs and flows much like its subject matter.....another of those "not-a-soul-about" pieces. And yet there is a spiritual warmth to it....
Having a return visit to these beautiful short pieces. I was suddenly struck by, what seems to me, a vague similarity between the opening of "Lonely Waters" and Ives' "The Housatonic At Stockbridge". Possibly the subject matter is what suggested that notion but Ives' melody, taken, I think, from an old spiritual reminds me ever so slightly of Moeran's plaintive theme.....
I love English Pastoral Music……..it gives me peace, soothes my soul, thank you 🥰🦋

Sounds like a cross between Hovhaness and Ravel. Good music I'd never heard until this year.
