  • This was the first time I ever got to see Moe hit golf balls. This was filmed with the permission of Moe Norman. The quality is poor in many places in the video. I only planned to shoot the video so that I could learn Moe's secrets, not so I could post it on UA-cam, which did not exist back then.
    Based on my more than 20+ years experience in learning from Moe, studying his swing, and teaching it I personally do not believe it to be a good idea to exactly copy Moe's golf swing. That is why I developed my Setup 4 Impact golf method. With the main goal being to help people improve as quickly as possible.

    240 carry guys can't even do that now with modern equipment he's almost 70. He's swing enables longevity. His swing is so easy to get 145-150 yard 8 irons and 250+ carry on a driver with consistency and way less effort than modern teachers. Not the longest hitter myself but 250 carry and solid straight ball flights. 7 iron goes 165 so its plenty effective im only 5,8 170

    It looks like Moe is using every club in his bag as broomsticks as I literally see him sweeping his ball off the ground straight to his target with his right hand. ( not scooping; but sweeping) The lagging of his club behind his hands permits him to do this.
    I know with my own double pendulum swing at age 74 the task of sweeping my ball off the ground with my trail hand works perfectly for me as well. Cheers

    • @lawbinson
      @lawbinson 2 роки тому

      Instead of a "whip", on face-on views, it looks like he is almost punching foward and down with his trail arm to preserve wrist angles. Wonering if you see that as well.
      I think the whipping motion with less hip rotation leads to early release since the elbow is behind the trail hip. The pushing motion gets his hands leading at impact and delivers the desired shaft-lean for clean impact.

    • @thomasfraser9072
      @thomasfraser9072 2 роки тому

      @@lawbinson Moe also said he feels like he is brushing his golf club along the ground. On another video he said he felt he was swinging the club forward with his left arm. I suppose as the golf club was naturally lagging behind bending his right hand back that would give him a the long brushing or sweeping motion of his hands that I see
      Mike Austin said their is only one correct way the hands and wrist can move the golf club and this is through the action of the golfers shoulders. I think Moe instinctively found this out for himself after hitting thousands of ball.
      Just my opinion. We all have one don’t we? 😃❤️👍⛳️

    His swing is actually really easy I'm trying it and I found out that grip is important make sure that every club you use you start by
    1 lay the club down how it wants
    to sit natural
    2 now take your lead hand and put the club shaft in line with your lead leg while bent over at the hips this will show you if your lead wrist is bent.
    3 now put the club back in center of you and grab the club with the outer hand your back hand put it in the club in the lifeline of your hand now this whole thing about side tilt and shoulder in the turn you already have that once you grip it.
    4 now you have a wide stance feet just past knees. Arms stretched out confterbly and in line with shaft knees are straight and you are bent over towards the ball .
    5 now the club shaft has an angle regardless who set the angle or if it's manufactured that don't matter what does matter is that club shafts angle itself you because your going the swing the club at the angle of that club shaft angle and to swing it all you do it take you back hand if you left handed like me it's your left arm for rights it's right arm draw the club back with back arm at the elbow around your ribcage your lead hand will follow it and cock the the lead hand wrist naturaly draw the around but don't over do it the club shaft needs only to be at 90 degrees so club is now points to the sky. Your front will bend on its own don't worry about that now swing the club and don't turn your hips and shoulders or head untill you have made contact with the ball the ball will be away from your club it's mostly forward to center of your lead leg so split the difference and that's good enough then you can play it and decide your want the ball to do and also make sure you always keep the back hand under the shaft always no matter what you do then you go through the cubles you have a discover how to control it and add more turn and knee extension but just don't try to kill the ball if you do you can't do it just like my dad use to say when driving take her easy and go from there. You may not think we'll it's not so powerful well it might be but it's straight and how you apply the power is how .

    I noticed watching this video again, at 21:40, he says "Here again, 290." Just before that he was saying something about 290 but I couldn't make out exactly what he was saying.
    Pretty effortless swing especially considering he was 68 years of age (in 1997). Must have been before his heart attack. Definitely not trying to kill the ball with all his might.

      Moe was known to say a lot of things that were not actually what was happening. There was nobody there measuring the drivers, but I would estimate that they were flying about 240 yards. Hard to tell without measuring though. This is still pretty far for Moe’s age at the time.

I did a longgg comment a year or so ago where I quoted what they were saying on the videos because you don't have a tracker and all like they do now. But they knew how far he was hitting the ball. I probably can't locate without a lot of effort but suffice it to say, from the videos, not from estimates or the idea that Moe was just some regular 68 year old duffer out there, he hit the ball 300 yards. • @Setup4Impact
      @Setup4Impact  Рік тому

      Moe hit it around 230 to 240 yards in the air when I was watching him which is pretty darn good for his age. Micah Morris plays conventionally and uses his body far more efficiently than Moe did. Moe was the master at hitting straight golf shots.

    • @robertbrown7470
      @robertbrown7470 Рік тому

      @@Setup4Impact I've watched a lot of Micah's videos. Hits the ball routinely over 300 yards. But, at 27, he's putting a lot more effort into his swing than Moe Norman. One thing I notice watching Moe's exhibitions is that you can't really tell the difference between a 180 yard 4 iron or a 250 yard drive. Or a 300 yard drive.
      One other point I would make is about human nature. The worst thing you could do at an exhibition is say, before you swing the club, that you are going to hit it 300 yards. If you don't come close, they will shout it from the roof tops. This guy is full of crap!
      I would disagree that Moe is not as efficient using his body than Micah or any tour pro. Seeing is believing. And, if Micah is more efficient then why is it that he often doesn't hit the fairway or hit it where he wants to hit it on a fairway?
      I remember, being curious about Tiger Woods and how he was doing, maybe 10 years ago, not sure how long, Tiger could not find the fair way. He hit it long but off to the left and off to the right. This was well before the last car accident he had. He has come around. In July 2022, he hit the fairway almost every time and hit it long almost every time. If you're not using your body efficiently or your fundamental golf swing is not very efficient or is inconsistent, then you will have big problems hitting a 300+/- drive and keep it on the fair way. The old man could do it essentially every time.
      I agree with Moe's mocking of many pros, a lot of wasted effort. I haven't golfed for 15 years. I was buying into the idea that if you are older, you can't hit it as far. That may be for many people. I'm starting over on my golf swing and am trying the Single Plane Gold Swing. It makes more sense. We didn't have youtube and hundreds of golf pro teachers with channels showing you the best mechanics. If I knew that 50 years ago, I would have been hitting balls a lot further without any more effort. If I saw Moe Norman's videos and the Todd Graves teaching, I'd even be on the fair way most of the time.
      I agree with the pro golfers. Moe Norman may have been the best golf striker in history.

    • @Setup4Impact
      @Setup4Impact  Рік тому

      @@robertbrown7470 Micah is creating a LOT more clubhead speed than Moe. He uses ground forces far more effectively than Moe did. Moe hit the ball straighter than everyone, but did not have much power. Everyone laughed when he said “here’s 300 yards”, because it was nowhere near that. Get Micah setup on his impact plane and he would hit more fairways, and still hit it far.

    • @robertbrown7470
      @robertbrown7470 Рік тому

      @@Setup4Impact One thing is for sure, Micah is putting a lot more effort into his swing than Moe Norman in his late 60's and early 70's. And not often not hitting the ball where he wants to. Just saying. But that has to do with the type of swing and so forth. What difference does it make with club speed, ball speed etc. and not hit it where you want to. Norman hits it where he wants to nearly every time with distance.
      Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed with Micah. I'm sure if he wants to go Pro he could do it, will have to work on his short game and so forth. Doesn't need to hit it any further. Needs more work on hitting the drive where he wants to. That's the big difference I see in Moe Norman's golf swing and most of the pros. Even at 65 to 72 years of age where most of these guys are 20 to 30 years younger trying to kill the ball and often not having much accuracy.
      How does lack of accuracy translate into more efficient?

    • @robertbrown7470
      @robertbrown7470 Рік тому

      @@Setup4Impact I started golfing in the early 70's had one professional lesson on irons that was pretty good. But no one had the knowledge and tools like we do now and a great deal of it is on UA-cam. So after 15 years of not golfing I'm seriously going to try the Single Plane Golf Swing method since I have to start over on my swing anyway.
      If Moe Norman didn't have the social problems he grew up with, I think we would be seeing a large percentage of pro's teaching his method.
      I think he would have been the Tiger Woods of his era with far more accuracy at least on his drives and probably approach shots.
      But he didn't have the social skills that most people have for various reasons. If you've read the book about his life and golf you know what I'm talking about.
      Without those impediments he certainly would have been on the US PGA Tour and would have kicked butt probably like no one has ever seen. It's kind of like watching the Babe Ruth of golf that never made it to the big time due to non-golf reasons.

      This was the first time I ever saw Moe hit the ball, and it was incredible. It did take a long time to learn to filter out what Moe said. Better to do as he did. He did not hold it in the palm even though he said he did. The thumb of his left hand was inside his right hand. I also learned that I have FAR better results by not copy everything Moe did in his swing. His compensation for standing so far away was to have to move closer to the ball in the downswing. This is what most find so hard to learn, and it is unnecessary to learn if you just stand a bit closer to the ball like Bryson DeChambeau does.

      Actually it's not odd he was so consistent. The swing makes more sense. I've been re-learning my swing after nearly 15 years not playing.
      I've noticed something odd in the way most of the pros and amateurs swing. No question that the plane of the address is significantly different than the plane of the swing of most of the pros.
      After watching a bunch of videos of Moe Norman's swings and Todd Graves videos, I see why the swing of most golfers seem odd from the set up to the backswing to the actual swing. The only thing I see as odd is where he sets up his club so far behind the ball before his swing, but it works. It's just different from what nearly all people are taught.
