    Wow very powerful images. We should all be so ashamed; we were prepared to rely on these communities for our coal supplies for many years. The local council should cut back on lunches and jollies to fund a clean up.They need to ask their younger residents what they want and what they are prepared to contribute. Well done Mickey Moo, thank goodness there is still passion and commitment to make a difference.

    @MrBulldogtools Didn't mean to offend you sir. I come from the north east and we have suffered too. Parts of Newcastle and South Shields really felt the impact of pit closures just as Shirebrook has. We have lots of men who have never worked since the mines closed well over 20 years ago. My comment was aimed at the government who seem to have forgotten all about pit villages and what they contributed to the nation as a whole. Community spirited folk do their level best with limited resources xx

    @vidmasters97 "Quotes" continued -: "Why live here?" Because I've already spent over forty years here paying taxes and wanting a town to be proud of. I'm not paying out more money to money grubbing solicitors and estate agents and giving myself and my family the stress of moving just because of the immorality of local authorities. "Leaves, what do you expect them to "dooo" fly away". Bizarre quote grammatically. No, I expect the place to be cleaned up properly - it's not too much to ask is it ?

    Thanks for the comments and you are right in a lot of what you say. Shirebrook has an unbelievable amount of POTENTIAL - the problem is tapping into that potential and you have correctly identified that three areas are fighting between themselves and creating nothing. There are a small group of people trying very locally and at a low level to get the councils to TALK and WORK together. This is ongoing, is very hard, and tiring - but we have some progress - watch this space..............!!

    shirebrooks okay, much has changed since the upload of this video,besides which, youve taken photos of all the shops when they are closed, also, these are all of and around the town centre, if you go into the new estate, lean vally drive etc, its actually really nice, and for a small town, theres alot to do, community centres, youth groups, gbh skatepark, leasure centre, they are building a tesco, sports direct distribution centre, the market has now had a facelift, theres some thriving

    Nothing wrong with Shirebrook at all,sad to see the pubs have almost all gone,no better night out than down here at one time,good market,decent shops,countryside on the doorstep,so many positives despite all the negatives of unemployment and the demise of industry so cruelly forced upon the town,sad to see the old Empire palace gone now too.where this in London someone would have launched a preservation scheme to save it.I love the old place,and will be visiting it for many years to come.

    @vidmasters97 That's just about it. Please note I have refrained from personal insults such as "you are a total bum" - and I don't need to resort to that just to have an argument. You have your view, I have mine. Other than your grammar and spelling needing a clear examination (before posting in future) I have enjoyed replying to you and I hope I have answered your queries adequately and professionally. Please note - I won't justify any more more of your inept posts with comment. Bye.

    @MrJanesaddiction - Good post - nice to see some perspective and common sense for a change. Shirebrook was once a great place to be - everything for everyone - no matter what age. It is nothing short of a disgrace how it's been allowed to slide. You can't blame it all on pit closures or the economy - the politicians (local ones that is) have a lot to answer for. Feckless, selfish, sententious oafs willing to watch whilst the town dies. Cocks crowing from the dung heap and nothing more.

    @vidmasters97 "Quotes" continued" -: "I have noooo problems with Shirebrook". Well, good for you, but I would suggest either your self esteem or aspirations are pretty low, but what would I know. Lots and lots of people do have problems -the old, the infirm, those without jobs or those about to lose their jobs, those in fear of crime - I could go on. "Putting the images in black and white to make it seem dull". No it is in black and white to save further embarrassment through "colour".

    I have lived in Shirebrook all my life and I am not ashamed to say in the past it was bad but it is a lot better now just because you proberbly don't like Shirebrook doesn't mean you have to show pictures of rubbish or boarded up house to put people off take it this way Shirebrook was bad but it is a very great quiet place now no hate for Shirebrook

  • @gildey
    @gildey  14 років тому

    Thanks for the useful insight but as you can see nearly two thousand three hundred people have viewed this and none have suggested wanted to see "decent" places. The pastiche of photographs was taken around the CENTRE of Shirebrook to show the authorities (BDC) that despite their misguided claims, Shirebrook really is a dirty, run down shit hole to anyone with a modicum of pride or shame - and still is. A "video" of "decent" places in the same area would be a very, very, short film indeed.

  • @gildey
    @gildey  15 років тому

    I think you're wrong to say it's ALWAYS been a shit hole - I'm older than you and can remember a noble hard working people that ran businesses proudly. You are RIGHT about "some left in the dark ages locals" - sadly they tend to be in positions of power and authority. It is "tough" - but not all of us can just get up and move - nor would we want to just yet, but we carry the fight forward and keep rattling cages - we want change and progress and we'll get it - soon.
    PS - I do have a great life!

    @blarrf "There's a good tattooist there now." Well I can't see your point to be honest. There's a good butcher, a baker etc. but Shirebrook is still dying on its feet. Ask the police what they think, ask your local councillor (there's five of them on Bolsover District Council representing Shirebrook) what they have PERSONALLY done for Shirebrook in the last five years that has improved the place. I promise the silence will be deafening.

    buisnesses, lots of food places, and not to mention europes largest market SQUARE, not bad for what was a village up until recently. theres lots of recreational grounds, some brilliant pubs, its the minority of PEOPLE that make the place bad by spraying grafiti in public places (usually of a badly drawn penis or a crap tag) and throwing there litter about etc. overall i think youve just highlighted the worst bits of the town here, i could make a video which would

    @reecebates . Thanks for the rather subjective comments. You say "Shirebrook is nothing as bad as this". Excuse me but they are PHOTOGRAPHS, not a surrealist painting. I must disagree with you about a "good skatepark". I don't know what a bad one would be like - having considered the rusting, graffiti spattered and litter strewn death pit that I have seen. It's OK I suppose if you are in the small minority that accepts things like that. No mention of decent shops, pubs, restaurants etc. Shame.

  • @gildey

    @vidmasters97 - Let's examine some of your quotes -: "you are a total bum" - bizarre and physiologically unsound but what else have we come to expect from people such as you? "Shirebrook is a nice village and how is it dirty..". Go ahead and ask the local authority how many thousands of pounds (of tax payers money) they spend each year trying to keep it "clean". "You obviously hate the place". No, I despise the place it has been allowed to become.

    Shirebrook is lovely where I live and quite also I'm pretty sure its a village? We have groups people attend to because I used to got to badgers and cadets. Please don't point out the flaws that polish have made.. They burnt a dead mans shed for Christ's sake!
