Bruh. Staedler is selling refill stations for thick markers while no one ever really asked for such a thing. Most people just throw their markers away without thinking once. I don't think you can call that corperate greed.

I didn't know these pens could be refilled. Have been buying a bunch of these and I have a collection of them lying around. I'm really grateful that I discovered this video and hopefully will buy ink instead of buying a new pen which costs a lot for sure.
Hi Saadodin. Thank you for watching my video. I’m glad it was of help and that you learned how to refill these pens. Now, if you had dried out pens that has been sitting empty for a long while, you’re going to need to use Household Rubbing Alcohol to break up the dried ink that are inside the tips. Once you remove the tips, submerge the tip inside some rubbing alcohol and let it sit for a few minutes. The longer you have it in the solution, the more it’ll break up the friend ink and clean the tip. Once that’s done, then refill the ink and start inking with them right away. Hope that helps. After you refill them and if it still doesn’t work, it may be that the tips of your microns are dried out. In that case, get some rubbing alcohol and dip the pens in there for a few good minutes. Hi Chinimasse. I'm sure when it's manufactured, there are more ink. But when refilling it, don't add THAT much. Because it'll leak. Safer to add a few drops at a time. Besides, a few drops can last for months!
Aaah, alright! I'm someone who inks a whole lot so in my case a pen can last me up to 5-6 pictures so I keep having to buy more and more. I tried what you are showing here and refilled all pens I had hoarded over time. I'm having trouble getting a nice flow so I still need to ink very slowly. :( I made sure to use ink for technical pens too, maybe I'll have better luck today after they sat around over night.
Hi Chinimasse, You may not be getting a nice flow because the tips are all dried out from those older pens that haven't been used for a long time. I would soak them in alcohol to break up the dried tips, then add the ink and give it a try. I constantly use these microns and once they're out of ink, I refill them and the flows smoothly.
After some time of not using them, They do get dry and not work. But if you remove and dip the pen tip into Rubbing Alcohol for a couple of hours, you'll be able to refill them and it'll work just like new! Thank you for watching and subscribing!
Hi Araxyana! Yea, most of the time, it's just the ink that's dried out in there. After soaking it and breaking up the dried ink inside, it'll work like new again. Those microns will always continue to work over and over again until the tip of it wears out. And that does happen, where the tip wears out and becomes flat. Until them, you can continue refilling over and over. And if it dries, use rubbing alcohol to break it up again. Thanks again for watching and subscribing! I appreciate that!

Hi, Thanks so much, very useful tip indeed. I use blunt tip syringes instead of a dropper, I find it more precise for refill. I also use Syringe to refill my fountain pens cartridge. BTW, you can also refill Tombow brush pen, by removing the nib and adding some water, it somehow extend their life a little.

On the tip of the pen and the metal thing there is actually a little hole. I used a needle that was thick to fit since i did not have an exacto knife, but once you find the hole and fit in the knife or needle you can push lightly forward then push up. Thats how i got it out with out scratching the tip. I didn't want to scratch it because im very picky with my materials and their appearance but that's just me.

@@neyalek5024 Well, I haven't worn any nibs out yet, usually the nibs fray because I'm a little heavy handed. When that happens I have no choice but replace the whole pen.
Very Interesting Indeed. We found several Staedtler pens in my old drawing kit. I was ill for some time...and the pens all seemed...empty and /or dried up. Reading the pens...I found "refillable"...then recalled having thrown hundreds away...cringed and went on the search for the key to unlocking the well engineered ink vehicles...and found your delightful video. THANK YOU 💗👍
If you have a Staedtler pen that says "refillable," there is generally an easier way to refill them. Most just require you to put them tip down in ink. They'll gradually absorb it.

Hi Twigbird60. That’s also how much those pens cost here too. It’s cheaper if you buy them by the set. And when you refill them like how I demonstrated in the video, it’s even more cheaper and can last you a long time. Just remember to not press too hard on those felt tip, as they can wear out. Once the tips are gone, it won’t work even after you refill it. But if the tips are still there, you can refill them for years! You dont even need an exacto knife for the Sakura micron. You can use a safety pin or push in to take the cap off. There is a tiny hole in the plastic along the edge where the nib is inserted in into the casing. Just find that and push the pin in at an angle and it will pop off. Now, does anyone know how to push more of the nib out for a smashed down nib?
Hi Dominique. Thank joy for watching my video. You’re right. Any method you like to remove the tips to refill the microns will also work. Pair of scissors to pry it out, players to pull it out, your method of using a safety pen, the way I demonstrated in my video will all work. Whichever is easiest for anyone is good. The main point it that these microns can be refilled with any brand of ink you like is the key! And, you can actually “scoot” the felt of the tip around when you removed them. But most times, it’ll just go back into the metal tips when you used them. So when using those pens to ink, practice using them gently so they can last longer. Thanks again for watching my video. Thank you so much for this video! Just a few questions: How can I know the unsmoothness of linework is because of the insufficient ink inside or the broken penpoint? Will the refilled ink be different from the original ink inside the microns, like easier to be dried?
Hi Daniel. Thank you for watching my video. You’ll know immediately when your pen is out of ink. The line quality will quickly break up and then stop. You can add any type of inks inside the microns and they are indeed a different brand of ink. We will never know for sure what is exactly originally inside the pens. But I’m my video, I do use waterproof India ink, which I think is a better quality ink as they are archival and wont fade over time. And after refilling them, they won’t dry out, unless you’re out of ink that’s inside the pen. When that happens, just refill them again and again and it will work just like new. Also, don’t press too hard when drawing or writing with the microns. You don’t want to break or crush the tips on the nib to cause it to crack. That’s when your line quality will break up. @@WaldenWongArt Thank you so much for your patient answers! My STAEDTLER 0.7 has been used for a serval week. The ink can still come out when I try to draw on the paper, but the line is much thinner than it supposes to be and would sometimes break up (but it have not completely stopped till now). I am not sure does it in the last stage of being out of link, or the nib is broken that limit ink from coming out smoothly
@@danielwenhaofan7771 Hi Daniel. For the most part, the ticker tip microns will usually break up in line quality, especially if you write or draw with it very quickly. Try writing/drawing it slowly and see if they still happen. The other option is you’re pressing too hard on the tips and it’s crushing that darker part of the nob, causing it to have broken lines. Draw a bit lighter in pressure and it won’t break the tips. Then the last option, it’s running out of ink. You can always add more ink and it won’t harm the pens. It will still work. Hope that helps.

I have micron pen the sane one you showed Can we refil the ink from back side ?! ..like open it from back and take the centre thing (which absorbs the ink) then dip it in ink . Then wipe the excess ink then put it inside again ?! Can i do it ? Will it harm my pen 😢 ? Im really concern
Thank you so much for watching my video. Absolutely yes!! You can also refill from the back side as you describe. But don’t just open the cap and drop ink in. You need to take out the center sponge and absorb the ink so it’s the correct amount. Using too much will make the micron over flow and too much ink spill out. Better to use less than too much. It may take a few run or more water because there’s residual ink still inside the sponge of the barrel. Any kind of inks will work! Awesome video! I do have that dropper thing, it was free when I bought a permanent black marker refill, it's Pilot brand but I don't use it anymore because it's hard to use but luckily we have that injection thingy because my Aunt is a nurse so it was in our house for years and haven't been used and Copic is easy to refill with them so I use them :)

On the brush tip, just remove the base right after where the brush head is connected to. Then drop ink in the like you see me demonstrate in the video. You can do this with Rotring Tikky's too, just prize off the whole black nib. A little fiddly but easy enough with a couple of tools - I put in about 2ml of ink or just fill up the tank... much more than 2 drops. Pen works like new

Hello sir, Your video is very usefull. But I've a question, You are using pigmented drawing ink in this video to refill the fineliners but i have normal fountain pen ink pot. Will it effect the flow of ink on the paper by using cheap ink? Because i don't want my fineliner to become a gel pen.

@@SaadAli-su4of Yes, I believe all the micros and fineliners out there are made with a cotton tube that holds the ink. Same methods as Sharpies and dry erase markers.

Walden out of three micron pen two I have managed to restore and one I have put the tip in thinner for couple of hour then clean the tip and put two drop of ink and put in recline position for few minutes and put straight clean the excess ink and I hope that should work properly
Gread vid, Walden! Just discovered your channel. I am slowly getting back to self publishing comics and likely will be inking my own pages. The few drops on refills don't seem like a whole lot. How many times do you have to refill a pen if you were inking one full page?
The few drops of inks doesn't seem like a lot, but it does last a long time. Once the ink is all gone, just add some more. Remember, don't over add. A few drops is good enough. For me, I don't need to refill the ink for months. I would say maybe no more than a year later.
I would only consider such a disposable pen as this if I can reward myself a bit for having a light touch .Even a disposable pen like this should be useful until the tip wears out.There are days I feel too clumsy to want to use a dip pen and and my fountain pens don't use waterproof inks.Don't get mad Sakura this vid just sold me on trying your Microns.

Now if you’re talking about how long before it breaks, this depend on how gentle you use the microns. The harder you press, the more likely the tips will flatten out. But if you use them normally without pressing too hard, it can last you years. Hope that answers your questions. Use a pair of pliers and pull off the back of the micron pen. Tap the pen until the ink holder falls out. Take the ink holder and stick it into your bottle of ink. Gently, squeeze the ink holder to suck up fresh ink replace ink holder into the barrel of the pen, push the back of the pen back on. Brand new pen. As a matter of fact the pen is improved depending on the quality of the ink you use, I E Koh-I-Noor Ultradraw ink.

Nor have they bleed. If you over fill, there’s may be some initial bleeding from them. Just wipe off the excess and you’ll be good to go and use the microns as usual. @@samsong8355 thank you for the kind words. I appreciate that. Permanent ink won’t effect the metal parts at all. I’m fact, the ink hou see me use in my video you watched are waterproof India ink. Which is also permanent ink and a thicker liquid. If you keep the cap on, it will work normally. But if one day you left the cap off and the ink dried inside the metal tips, not to worry. Get some household rubbing alcohol, remove the metal tip, drop the tips in the rubbing alcohol. The longer you have the dried ink tip in the rubbing alcohol, the more it’ll get into the tips and break up the dried ink, and when you refill your ink tips and use that same metal tip again, it will flow like normal. Hi Adrian! Bombay India Ink (which is manufacture by Dr. Ph. Martin) can also be used. Those inks are a little more expensive than the inks I have in the video. But they work just as good. Thanks for watching and subscribing!

Hi Rahi RAHI. yes, you can also use the old bottle of fountain pen ink. If you haven’t used that bottle in a while, make sure to shake it up so it’s nicely mixed. Nice video. But I think that yes, it's easy to refill these pens but eventually the tips will wear out, especially the finer tips. I personally prefer the rotring pens: very expensive to buy but, if you take care of them, they last forever. I got a couple rotrings I've been using since the 90s.
You're correct, Tyrrhenus. The micron tips does wear out over time and you'll have to throw them away. But more often than not, it'll run out of ink before the tip gives away. It all depends on how hard you press with the micron pens. Rotring pen and Radiograph pens are expensive and they do last forever. I have over five sets of those. I find that a tech pen is more fluid wheres a micron pen is not. When I ink fast lines, I use tech pens, when I ink delicate lines slowly, I use mircons. To some, they may feel the same. But form someone who have been inking for a very long time, I can tell the difference in the line quality with the both pens on how I use them.

Hey Monkey Doodles, The type of ink I used to refill the microns are India Inks. Many different companies produces India Ink, such as Speedball, Higgens, Kohinoor, and more. India Ink are water proof, meaning once you draw a link, they won't smear nor will they fade over time. You can purchase these inks at your local art store as well as amazon. I always hated when brands like Pigma Micron forces you to buy a complete set when you only need (for example) a 005, or a 03. So this trick is incredibly useful. I do have a question, does this trick works when the pen is completely out of ink? How much ink should I use in that case? (Excuse me if my English is not perfect)
Hi IDKDC. Thank you for watching my video. And your English is spot on. To answer your question, you can refill them anytime. Even when there’s still ink inside, you can still refill them. Just add about 8-10 drops and that should be enough for a long time. I use my microns everyday and those few drops can last for many months. And if it runs out of ink, I’ll just refill again. It’s really very easy to refill. Any brands of ink is good too! Don’t add too much ink as it will cause them to leak. It takes more time to clean the leaks and the mess from the leak, then to refill them again. For the most part, companies wants consumers to see these as disposable pens. Once they’re out of ink, consumers will buy more and the company profits from them. If companies sold replacements nibs, they won’t profit as much. There are companies that do sell technical pens with replacement nibs, such as Rapidograph and Rotary Pens. I need to find just the right pressure to save the nibs on these Micron pens, the thicker ones are ok, but the .005 just gets worn down before the ink is done, and It's not like I'm using pressure like I would on a pencil or anything.

Thank you for watching my video. I like to add about 7-9 drops. If you over fill them, there is a chance of leakage. Which isn’t the end of the world. Just a mess and you’ll need a rag to wipe off the leakage. But it’ll still work as normal with or without the leakage.

That would break up the dried in that’s inside the natal tips. A good few minutes would do. After that, air it out and refill the pens and it would work just like new again. I hope that helps. Hermant, if you have thinner, that's even better than alcohol. That will work perfectly! I would just let it soak for a few minutes. If not it a rush, let it soak longer to clean out all the dried ink on the tips. Hope that helps!
Thank you for watching my video. The nobs can wear out, but that depends on how hard you press down on the nobs. I use these microns almost everyday for when I work with publishes and I use them normally and not press down hard as if I’m using graphite pencils. If you use these fineliners gently as they’re supposed to be used, they can really last for many years when you refill them over and over again. Hope that answers your question. Few questions if you dont mind. Does it make a difference using a pigment ink, like the micron pens came with, over the more common dye/india inks? I recently bought the new grey tone set, and find the light grey shade to SUPER useful. I would love to refill, and maybe create a light grey in the 003 size (no greys are available in that size), but am not sure how to find, or even recreate that shade of light grey ink to refill with. I'd also love to find a way to mix up new grey shades and maybe even mix up other new ink colours to refill my old 003 pens, because there just isnt many colours for that super thin nib size. But before I go purchase any base colours to mix up, I was wondering if using pigment ink is better/worse/same? Do you know what is the best kind of ink to use? To mix a light grey, I would probably need a white, is white even available in these kind of inks? They are a waterbased ink right? (Not alcohol) sorry so many questions! I am not very knowledgeable about pen inks! I wonder if you can purchase empty felts that would fit these pens, so you can refill and create your own new colours with used pens? If you haven't tried the greys, I was surprised at how handy the light grey is. Especially when black is used in the foreground, and light grey for items further away, to create more depth. Its great for creating 3d effects, and it can be used (like a pencil) for light shading. (Great for stippling shadows etc too) Thank you so very much for taking the time to create this video! If you need to have some grey tones in the inks, I wouldn’t mix white ink with black ink. Maybe just dilute the ink with water to get the grey tones that hit like. They don’t sell the felt that’s inside the microns. But if you have a lot of these microns, you can save them and keep the felts from the pen tips that are smashed and doesn’t have a felt on the tip anymore. All inks are water based including India ink. There not a alcohol based. But if you wanted to use alcohol based inks, they will also work. Ofcouse you may need to reuse the pen ink for a while to clean out the residual left over ink before use the other ink. Just to give it a clean ink. After refilling, they will work just like new. After you refill them and if it still doesn’t work, it my be that the tips of your microns are dried out. In that case, get some rubbing alcohol and dip the pens in there for a few good minutes. That will break down the dried ink inside the tips and allow ink to flow again. Then refill and it’ll be just like new. Thank you again for watching. I didn't know these pens could be refilled. Have been buying a bunch of these and I have a collection of them lying around. I'm really grateful that I discovered this video and hopefully will buy ink instead of buying a new pen which costs a lot for sure.

Now, if you had dried out pens that has been sitting empty for a long while, you’re going to need to use Household Rubbing Alcohol to break up the dried ink that are inside the tips. Once you remove the tips, submerge the tip inside some rubbing alcohol and let it sit for a few minutes. The longer you have it in the solution, the more it’ll break up the friend ink and clean the tip. Once that’s done, then refill the ink and start inking with them right away. Hope that helps. You could probably refill them, clean them up and re sell them on ebay, facebook marketplace or any other marketplace to get some of your money back.

Is there seriously that little ink in micron pens???
Hi Chinimasse. I'm sure when it's manufactured, there are more ink. But when refilling it, don't add THAT much. Because it'll leak. Safer to add a few drops at a time. Besides, a few drops can last for months!
Aaah, alright! I'm someone who inks a whole lot so in my case a pen can last me up to 5-6 pictures so I keep having to buy more and more. I tried what you are showing here and refilled all pens I had hoarded over time. I'm having trouble getting a nice flow so I still need to ink very slowly. :( I made sure to use ink for technical pens too, maybe I'll have better luck today after they sat around over night.
Hi Chinimasse, You may not be getting a nice flow because the tips are all dried out from those older pens that haven't been used for a long time. I would soak them in alcohol to break up the dried tips, then add the ink and give it a try. I constantly use these microns and once they're out of ink, I refill them and the flows smoothly.
After some time of not using them, They do get dry and not work. But if you remove and dip the pen tip into Rubbing Alcohol for a couple of hours, you'll be able to refill them and it'll work just like new! Thank you for watching and subscribing!
Hi Araxyana! Yea, most of the time, it's just the ink that's dried out in there. After soaking it and breaking up the dried ink inside, it'll work like new again. Those microns will always continue to work over and over again until the tip of it wears out. And that does happen, where the tip wears out and becomes flat. I use blunt tip syringes instead of a dropper, I find it more precise for refill. I also use Syringe to refill my fountain pens cartridge.
BTW, you can also refill Tombow brush pen, by removing the nib and adding some water, it somehow extend their life a little.

On the tip of the pen and the metal thing there is actually a little hole. I used a needle that was thick to fit since i did not have an exacto knife, but once you find the hole and fit in the knife or needle you can push lightly forward then push up. Thats how i got it out with out scratching the tip. I didn't want to scratch it because im very picky with my materials and their appearance but that's just me.

If you have a Staedtler pen that says "refillable," there is generally an easier way to refill them. Most just require you to put them tip down in ink. They'll gradually absorb it.

Hi Twigbird60. That’s also how much those pens cost here too. It’s cheaper if you buy them by the set. And when you refill them like how I demonstrated in the video, it’s even more cheaper and can last you a long time. Just remember to not press too hard on those felt tip, as they can wear out. Once the tips are gone, it won’t work even after you refill it. But if the tips are still there, you can refill them for years! have to say, for me, it's the nibs which die before the ink runs out; i guess i've just been a bit too heavy handed and need to calm down a bit :-)
You dont even need an exacto knife for the Sakura micron. You can use a safety pin or push in to take the cap off. There is a tiny hole in the plastic along the edge where the nib is inserted in into the casing. Just find that and push the pin in at an angle and it will pop off. Now, does anyone know how to push more of the nib out for a smashed down nib?
Hi Dominique. Thank joy for watching my video. You’re right. Any method you like to remove the tips to refill the microns will also work. Pair of scissors to pry it out, players to pull it out, your method of using a safety pen, the way I demonstrated in my video will all work. Whichever is easiest for anyone is good. The main point it that these microns can be refilled with any brand of ink you like is the key! And, you can actually “scoot” the felt of the tip around when you removed them. But most times, it’ll just go back into the metal tips when you used them. So when using those pens to ink, practice using them gently so they can last longer. Thanks again for watching my video. Just a few questions: How can I know the unsmoothness of linework is because of the insufficient ink inside or the broken penpoint? Will the refilled ink be different from the original ink inside the microns, like easier to be dried?
Hi Daniel. Thank you for watching my video. You’ll know immediately when your pen is out of ink. The line quality will quickly break up and then stop. You can add any type of inks inside the microns and they are indeed a different brand of ink. We will never know for sure what is exactly originally inside the pens. But I’m my video, I do use waterproof India ink, which I think is a better quality ink as they are archival and wont fade over time. And after refilling them, they won’t dry out, unless you’re out of ink that’s inside the pen. When that happens, just refill them again and again and it will work just like new. Also, don’t press too hard when drawing or writing with the microns. You don’t want to break or crush the tips on the nib to cause it to crack. That’s when your line quality will break up. The ink can still come out when I try to draw on the paper, but the line is much thinner than it supposes to be and would sometimes break up (but it have not completely stopped till now). I am not sure does it in the last stage of being out of link, or the nib is broken that limit ink from coming out smoothly
@@danielwenhaofan7771 Hi Daniel. For the most part, the ticker tip microns will usually break up in line quality, especially if you write or draw with it very quickly. Try writing/drawing it slowly and see if they still happen. The other option is you’re pressing too hard on the tips and it’s crushing that darker part of the nob, causing it to have broken lines. Draw a bit lighter in pressure and it won’t break the tips. Then the last option, it’s running out of ink. You can always add more ink and it won’t harm the pens. It will still work. Hope that helps.

I have micron pen the sane one you showed Can we refil the ink from back side ?! ..like open it from back and take the centre thing (which absorbs the ink) then dip it in ink . Then wipe the excess ink then put it inside again ?! Can i do it ? Will it harm my pen 😢 ? Im really concern
Thank you so much for watching my video. Absolutely yes!! You can also refill from the back side as you describe. But don’t just open the cap and drop ink in. You need to take out the center sponge and absorb the ink so it’s the correct amount. Using too much will make the micron over flow and too much ink spill out. Better to use less than too much. It may take a few run or more water because there’s residual ink still inside the sponge of the barrel. Any kind of inks will work! I do have that dropper thing, it was free when I bought a permanent black marker refill, it's Pilot brand but I don't use it anymore because it's hard to use but luckily we have that injection thingy because my Aunt is a nurse so it was in our house for years and haven't been used and Copic is easy to refill with them so I use them :)

On the brush tip, just remove the base right after where the brush head is connected to. Then drop ink in the like you see me demonstrate in the video. Hi Peter! Thank you for watching my video. You can also use any brand of ink to refill any type of these microns, fineliners and brush pens. After refilling, they will work just like new. After you refill them and if it still doesn’t work, it may be that the tips of your microns are dried out. In that case, get some rubbing alcohol and dip the pens in there for a few good minutes. That will break down the dried ink inside the tips and allow ink to flow again. Then refill and it’ll be just like new. Thank you again for watching. You can do this with Rotring Tikky's too, just prize off the whole black nib. A little fiddly but easy enough with a couple of tools - I put in about 2ml of ink or just fill up the tank... much more than 2 drops. Pen works like new

Walden out of three micron pen two I have managed to restore and one I have put the tip in thinner for couple of hour then clean the tip and put two drop of ink and put in recline position for few minutes and put straight clean the excess ink and I hope that should work properly

Gread vid, Walden! Just discovered your channel. I am slowly getting back to self publishing comics and likely will be inking my own pages. The few drops on refills don't seem like a whole lot. How many times do you have to refill a pen if you were inking one full page?
The few drops of inks doesn't seem like a lot, but it does last a long time. Once the ink is all gone, just add some more. Remember, don't over add. A few drops is good enough. For me, I don't need to refill the ink for months. I would say maybe no more than a year later.
I would only consider such a disposable pen as this if I can reward myself a bit for having a light touch .Even a disposable pen like this should be useful until the tip wears out.There are days I feel too clumsy to want to use a dip pen and and my fountain pens don't use waterproof inks.Don't get mad Sakura this vid just sold me on trying your Microns.

Now if you’re talking about how long before it breaks, this depend on how gentle you use the microns. The harder you press, the more likely the tips will flatten out. Use a pair of pliers and pull off the back of the micron pen. Tap the pen until the ink holder falls out. Take the ink holder and stick it into your bottle of ink. Gently, squeeze the ink holder to suck up fresh ink replace ink holder into the barrel of the pen, push the back of the pen back on. Brand new pen. As a matter of fact the pen is improved depending on the quality of the ink you use, I E Koh-I-Noor Ultradraw ink.

@@samsong8355 thank you for the kind words. I appreciate that. Permanent ink won’t effect the metal parts at all. I’m fact, the ink hou see me use in my video you watched are waterproof India ink. Which is also permanent ink and a thicker liquid. If you keep the cap on, it will work normally. But if one day you left the cap off and the ink dried inside the metal tips, not to worry. Get some household rubbing alcohol, remove the metal tip, drop the tips in the rubbing alcohol. The longer you have the dried ink tip in the rubbing alcohol, the more it’ll get into the tips and break up the dried ink, and when you refill your ink tips and use that same metal tip again, it will flow like normal. Is Bombay India Ink can also be used? are they expensive than those inks you use

Hi Rahi RAHI. yes, you can also use the old bottle of fountain pen ink. If you haven’t used that bottle in a while, make sure to shake it up so it’s nicely mixed. Nice video. But I think that yes, it's easy to refill these pens but eventually the tips will wear out, especially the finer tips. I personally prefer the rotring pens: very expensive to buy but, if you take care of them, they last forever. I got a couple rotrings I've been using since the 90s.
You're correct, Tyrrhenus. The micron tips does wear out over time and you'll have to throw them away. But more often than not, it'll run out of ink before the tip gives away. It all depends on how hard you press with the micron pens. Rotring pen and Radiograph pens are expensive and they do last forever. I have over five sets of those. I find that a tech pen is more fluid wheres a micron pen is not. When I ink fast lines, I use tech pens, when I ink delicate lines slowly, I use mircons. To some, they may feel the same. But form someone who have been inking for a very long time, I can tell the difference in the line quality with the both pens on how I use them.

You can also refill a sakura pigma fb brush pen by cutting the back of it near the edge end using a razor.

If so, you can also refill those pens ( as well as all the other obeys I’ve showed in this video) from the back. They are refillable from both sides. I hope that helps. Dip that in rubbing alcohol for a few minutes, if you can remove it, to break up the dried ink that’s inside, and then the ink should flow as normal again.

Hey Monkey Doodles, The type of ink I used to refill the microns are India Inks. Many different companies produces India Ink, such as Speedball, Higgens, Kohinoor, and more. India Ink are water proof, meaning once you draw a link, they won't smear nor will they fade over time. You can purchase these inks at your local art store as well as amazon. I like using Archival India inks, like the brands I’ve showed in this video. Regular ink may fade over time, but with Archival India Inks, they won’t fade and stay it’s color. I always hated when brands like Pigma Micron forces you to buy a complete set when you only need (for example) a 005, or a 03. So this trick is incredibly useful. I do have a question, does this trick works when the pen is completely out of ink? How much ink should I use in that case? (Excuse me if my English is not perfect)
Hi IDKDC. Thank you for watching my video. And your English is spot on. To answer your question, you can refill them anytime. Even when there’s still ink inside, you can still refill them. Just add about 8-10 drops and that should be enough for a long time. I use my microns everyday and those few drops can last for many months. And if it runs out of ink, I’ll just refill again. It’s really very easy to refill. Any brands of ink is good too! Don’t add too much ink as it will cause them to leak. It takes more time to clean the leaks and the mess from the leak, then to refill them again. For the most part, companies wants consumers to see these as disposable pens. Once they’re out of ink, consumers will buy more and the company profits from them. If companies sold replacements nibs, they won’t profit as much. There are companies that do sell technical pens with replacement nibs, such as Rapidograph and Rotary Pens. I need to find just the right pressure to save the nibs on these Micron pens, the thicker ones are ok,
but the .005 just gets worn down before the ink is done, and It's not like I'm using pressure like I would on a pencil or anything.

I top up my STAEDTLER pigment liner with 0.8ml of ink but it´s safer to add just 0.6ml to avoid leaks. I use a syringe rather than an eyedropper.

Thank you for watching my video. I like to add about 7-9 drops. If you over fill them, there is a chance of leakage. Which isn’t the end of the world. Just a mess and you’ll need a rag to wipe off the leakage. But it’ll still work as normal with or without the leakage.

Hi Dominik. Thank you for watching my video. If you have a friend out pigma pen. All you have to do it dip that into household rubbing alcohol and soak it a bit. That would break up the dried in that’s inside the natal tips. A good few minutes would do. After that, air it out and refill the pens and it would work just like new again. I hope that helps. Walden, thanks for your concern and suggestion ,instead of alcohol can I use the thinner which I use for cleaning the surface of celluloid paints and then I will remain there precisely how much time
Hermant, if you have thinner, that's even better than alcohol. That will work perfectly! I would just let it soak for a few minutes. If not it a rush, let it soak longer to clean out all the dried ink on the tips. Hope that helps!

Thank you for watching my video. The nobs can wear out, but that depends on how hard you press down on the nobs. I use these microns almost everyday for when I work with publishes and I use them normally and not press down hard as if I’m using graphite pencils. If you use these fineliners gently as they’re supposed to be used, they can really last for many years when you refill them over and over again. Hope that answers your question. Few questions if you dont mind. Does it make a difference using a pigment ink, like the micron pens came with, over the more common dye/india inks? I recently bought the new grey tone set, and find the light grey shade to SUPER useful. I would love to refill, and maybe create a light grey in the 003 size (no greys are available in that size), but am not sure how to find, or even recreate that shade of light grey ink to refill with.
I'd also love to find a way to mix up new grey shades and maybe even mix up other new ink colours to refill my old 003 pens, because there just isnt many colours for that super thin nib size. But before I go purchase any base colours to mix up, I was wondering if using pigment ink is better/worse/same? Do you know what is the best kind of ink to use?
To mix a light grey, I would probably need a white, is white even available in these kind of inks?

I wonder if you can purchase empty felts that would fit these pens, so you can refill and create your own new colours with used pens?
If you haven't tried the greys, I was surprised at how handy the light grey is. Especially when black is used in the foreground, and light grey for items further away, to create more depth. Its great for creating 3d effects, and it can be used (like a pencil) for light shading. (Great for stippling shadows etc too)

If you need to have some grey tones in the inks, I wouldn’t mix white ink with black ink. Maybe just dilute the ink with water to get the grey tones that hit like. They don’t sell the felt that’s inside the microns. But if you have a lot of these microns, you can save them and keep the felts from the pen tips that are smashed and doesn’t have a felt on the tip anymore. All inks are water based including India ink. There not a alcohol based. But if you wanted to use alcohol based inks, they will also work. Ofcouse you may need to reuse the pen ink for a while to clean out the residual left over ink before use the other ink. Just to give it a clean ink. After refilling, they will work just like new. After you refill them and if it still doesn’t work, it my be that the tips of your microns are dried out. In that case, get some rubbing alcohol and dip the pens in there for a few good minutes. That will break down the dried ink inside the tips and allow ink to flow again. Then refill and it’ll be just like new. Thank you again for watching.
